Baby names !

Re: Baby names !

  • No name could please my mother. My mother is very judgmental, and HATES almost all baby names. Every time she tells me about a new baby, she says how awful the name is. I openly make fun of her about this, and she now laughs and recognizes how picky she is about names. My MIL on the other hand, tries hard to do the "right thing" and not be judgmental. So she wouldn't even bat an eye if I named the baby something ridiculous.

Having said that, our three children all start with the same letter. So I can't veer from that letter now!

I like your name choices, VeraMali! I know a little boy named Magnus, and I think it's awesome.
  • Thanks @LulubelleGallagher we've had that as a boy name since our first pregnancy and have never come up with anything else that we liked better. Love strong older names!
  • We will be sharing our name choices. We are two of the most indecisive people ever and are looking at names now. My husband has a suffix so it's likely that we'd pass the name on if it's a boy. I don't care about the tradition but he really does.
  • We will share if we come to a conclusion. We had narrowed it down to two with DD but didn't actually pick her name until she was born.
  • We've picked a boys name, but we can't think of anything we both like for a girl. Which is sad because when I was younger, I KNEW what I wanted to name my child if I had a girl, and now I can't remember any of them lol.

  • Only my mom and a pregnant friend knew DS' name before he was born. Same for this time, although we still aren't sold on a name.

  • We're staying team green so no one will know anything. We had agreed on names a long time ago but have changed our mind... Originally: Clayton Ella (girl) Declan William (boy) Now we are thinking more traditional. I think we're pretty set on William for a boy and no idea for a girl. I like Amelia, Ava, Eloise, Savannah, Sophie, Maisie, Hannah and Lila right now.
    Love all your names.

  • Complete secret here!  We're not even revealing the sex once we know.

I don't really give shit about opinions and will announce when I announce the sex.
    Boy: Henry Louis
Girl: Alexa Lynn or Evelyn ?
  • My two best friends are pregnant, too. Their firsts, my second. My husband and I had a boy and girl name picked out pretty much the week we found out we were expecting last time. We had a girl, but we still love our boy name and plan on using it this go around, if it's a boy. I told DH last night that I feel like I should stake my claim to it because I would honestly be crushed if one of them used it first. I know I can't call dibs on a name, but I really want to.

  • We will announce our names before, in fact we already know for either sex and all of out family knows. I think if you tell people very matter of factly what your name is, and make it clear that it is set, then they don't tend to give negative feedback. If you say something like "we are thinking about naming her Riley", then people for some reason tame that as an invitation to voice their opposition to it.

Oooo I love Evelyn. So pretty and classic
  • We've always had ideas about names we like, & have shared those with some friends & family. I think once we settle on a name, though, we may keep that to ourselves until baby is born. It will be nice to have something that only DH & I know for a little while. :)

DH and I still have no idea what we're naming baby.

My EDD is a couple of days after my grandpa's birthday. Sadly, he passed away the 10th of September. We were really close though and he meant the world to me so I'd really like to name baby after him somehow.

DH would really like to name baby after his grandma. She's a sweetheart and I really like her a lot so I'm good with that.

I doubt we'll use the same names but something similar or related if we can find something we like. My grandpa's name was Lester Millard (first and middle) so that may make it difficult. :-/

There is also a tradition in my family that goes back about 8 generations where the women in my family name their daughter's something with Jo- in the middle name. Josephine, Joann, Joanna, you get the idea. So if we have a girl I'd really love to continue that tradition. I explained it to DH and he said he liked the idea and he's on board with finding a way to continue the tradition. My SIL already named her daughter with a Jo- MN: which, if we're being honest, peeved me more than it probably should have. Because, ya know, had it been the other way around and it had been her family tradition I would have just picked another MN. There are so many names out there. But whatever, I know it's irrational.

Anyhow, that's really all we have to go off of so far. At least we have 9 months to settle on something. :)
