Prenatal problems

I am 14 weeks today, and until this point have been so very sick. I take a prescription of Folic Acid every day, but as far as prenatal vitamins it's a no go. I have tried so, so, so many different types and brands and they ALL make me miserably Ill. Anyone else have these problems? More importantly, have any solutions?

Re: Prenatal problems

  • Have you tried the gummies?
First BFP 12/2012, MMC at 9 weeks
Second BFP 6/2013, resulted in DS, born 2/23/14 :-)
Third BFP 5/2015, natural MC at 6 weeks
Fourth BFP 8/2015, hoping for sticky little brother or sister to H!

  • Try kids Flintstone's, that's what I take. Anything that basically isn't meant for kids makes me sick. Flintstone's, unlike the gummies at least has iron, just not in as high a dose as in prenatals. I take extra folic acid & b12 because of a deficiency before pregnancy and a dha gummy because it looked like lots of prenatal vitamins have added dha.
  • Yes, I've tried the gummies and they actually make me feel the absolute worst.
I also take the b12 and folic acid because of a deficiency.
I'll have to try the flintstones
  • I skipped off and on for seven weeks, not ideal but I decided that getting and keeping some kind of food in my stomach was more important in the long run at that point. Otherwise I would say eat something small immediately every single time you take your vitamins. Gummies make me sick too.

I did the same thing for several weeks. I'm 14 weeks and just getting back to keeping them down. I also found taking them at bedtime with a light snack helps.

Also FWIW, I tried a few different brands and the ones I've done the best with are Country Life Real Food Prenatals.
  • Olly brand chewable did great for several friends of mine that could not take regular prenatal vitamins. I think they buy them at Target

Also, if that's too tough on your stomach they're easy to split in half (they're designed to be halved for kids under 4) and you can take half in the morning/half in the evening. I take a whole one at lunch, I can't take anything in the morning because of my thyroid medicine, and then my extra folic acid/b12 in the evening.
  • Have you tried taking them right before you go to bed?
