Anyone else not want to take off their rings?

I'm getting to the point where I really need to take off my wedding and engagement rings and it makes me really upset! I know it's silly but I have worn them every day (practically every moment) since I got them and obviously they're deeply meaningful.

I currently can't get them off (I try every night to make sure they're still ok) but I should be able to get them off in the morning when I'm a bit less swollen. I have a silver heart ring I usually wear on my middle finger that I'll move to my ring finger, since it's getting too tight where it is too, but still!

I can't be the only one, right?

Re: Anyone else not want to take off their rings?

  • I had to take mine off weeks ago and I was super sad about it. I adore my wedding set and I'm so proud to wear it. Unfortunately, I can't even get it on my finger at all anymore. I just wear a cheap band now. Oh well.

  • Took off engagement ring a couple months ago. Had to take off wedding ring yesterday. Fingers are too swollen especially when I get too hot :(

  • Haven't had to take mine off yet, but I'll be sad when it does happen. I cherish my set, they are very meaningful to me as well. I will probably use a necklace chain so I can still "wear" them when the time comes.

  • I took both off a while ago but now due to the cooler weather here in Ontario I am able to put my wedding band back on :).
  • I took off my rings when i was pregnant with my first (now expecting number 3) and i tried to wear them after he was born but would always scratch him with the diamond. Now i only wear my wedding set on special occasions and i got my hubbys inital tattooed on my wedding finger.
  • I take mine off every night, I wear a substitute ring to clinical so not wearing them doesn't bother me, and is rather not wear it then end up having to cut it off

  • @jess0813 I was thinking of getting his initial tattooed before I got pregnant but didn't want to take off my rings long enough for it to heal lol! I wish you could get tattoos while you're pregnant, since they'll be off anyway.

  • I wear a ring my grandma gave me that is a bigger size, so at least there's some sentimental value to it. But it was a sad day when I had to take off my lovely engagement/wedding band set from my husband :(
  • My rings were a little big to begin with so thankfully I haven't had to take them off yet! It's better to take them off now than cutting them off later. Yikes. Lots of stores sell very cheap fake rings if that is something you're interested in. :)
  • Since 18ish weeks my rings have been on a chain. Praying they fit after baby gets here.
  • I had a hard time taking them off when I was pregnant with DS but hubby helped me through it. He couldn't wear his at the time because it was a safety risk with his work. He told me he had felt guilty about that and realized not wearing it didn't change anything. The rings are only an outward sign of our commitment to each other, the real commitment is in our hearts and that isn't going anywhere. And he says he isn't a romantic. I never did go back to wearing mine but keep them in a special place.
  • I lost weight before I got pregnant, and my ring was loose. So now it fits ok. It starts to feel a little tighter in the evening, and I don't wear it while I'm sleeping. I'm going to keep wearing it for as long as I'm able!
  • Oddly, I've had some swelling but no new swelling in my hands so my rings fit as normal.

But... my normal is that throughout the day, my hands puff up and shrink over time. I also have weird reactions to wearing anything with gold in it and get irritation on my ring finger. I HATE wearing my rings normally. And I have to admit, there are days, even before pregnancy, when i didn't wear them.

I usually wear them around my  neck so when people see me, they see wedding rings around my neck and can ask if they want to. It's not the best solution but it keeps them close to me and I'm less likely to misplace them.
  • I had to take mine off during week 20. It was a huge bummer but it was cutting into my skin, making me bleed, and just flat out hurting. I can't imagine what condition my finger would be in right now if I was still wearing it. I'm still bummed about not wearing it, and worried every day about it getting lost or something but I am going to be really excited when my hubby can put it back on me =)

I just took them off a week ago at 32 weeks after REALLY struggling to get them off. I was very very sad.
  • @catherine1021 the crazy part is mine were really big from losing weight before I got pregnant as well, I even had to wear a ring guard! That's just how much they have swelled these past 8 months.

  • Mine fit my entire pregnancy last time but had to take them off a couple weeks ago. I was sad, but it'll only be for a handful of weeks more. I panicked when I couldn't get them off the other week!

So I was feeling really anxious so I took them off. Then, when the weather cooled down a little (I live in CA so it's still almost 90 degrees during the day) I put back on just my engagement ring, for now.

  • I took my wedding band off about at around 20 weeks. My engagement is bigger so I'm still wearing it but it's getting tight. I plan to take it off right after our maternity photos and am sad about it. My ring is gorgeous and it reminds of DH whenever I look at it.

During Lamaze class we were told not to wear any jewelry when going in for delivery because you can swell during labor and if you have an emergency c-section, you have to take all jewelry off.
  • My hands change size pretty significantly with temperature. My engagement ring was tight in the summer when DH proposed but when winter came it got so loose that the jeweler had to take it in half size. Anyway my ring is always hard to get off which is how it is supposed to be according to my jeweler, he also said if it ever gets stuck don't panic just spray your finger with windex and it will slide off. The dad on My Big Fat Greek Wedding was right windex is magic! My ring was a little tighter than normal last night for the first time, I hope it passes if not--only 2 months to go. My DH can't get his ring off without significant effort and water or windex (which is good considering his coworkers have lost theirs working when it gets cold). I will not be wearing my rings to the hospital even if they fit.
  • With DDi think I took my engagement ring off first the a few weeks later the wedding band. But she was born in August so it was much warmer and humid. As of right now they both still fit but I take therm off every night so once they start getting harder to get off I will stop wearing them. I don't want them to have to be cut off.

  • I take my rings off whenever I'm home anyway (less wear and tear). I have a few rings that are larger that I plan on switching to when it gets close to the end JIC. There's no way I'm letting my eternity ring get destroyed!
  • I haven't had any swelling so I am still wearing my rings and plan to do so until I can't any more.
  • I had to take them off around 25 weeks....I highly suggest you take them off and keep them off even if some days they fit...iI know 3 of my familymembers or friends that had to get them cut off and that is really upsetting

Since my husband and I were married 13 years ago, I've only taken my rings off for an X-ray and then for the last few months that I was pregnant with my son. I've gained ~40 lbs since I was a skinny bride in my college days and I've never had my rings resized so they're quite snug. I'm hoping that I'll be able to get them off because I don't want the hospital to have to cut them off if I need a csection. Once they're off, I'll store them in our safe and wear fake rings that I got last pregnancy.

ETA - I took my rings off tonight. I tried holding ice on my hand above my head to shrink my finger. I tried using windex. They didn't budge. So I used the dental floss trick. It worked but oh did it hurt! Maybe my dental floss wasn't long enough, but halfway through I was contemplating how I was going to get my sleeping son into the car and get us to the hospital to get them off before I lost my finger. :)
  • Much to my devastation, I haven't been able to wear mine for the past several months due to swelling (thanks west TX heat). I bought a couple of fakes from Overstock so I could still wear something, but the stones kept falling out, so DH took me to a jeweler and bought me a small gemstone ring (blue topaz for December) to wear in the mean time. I intend to wear it on my right hand once the pregnancy swelling is gone. I absolutely love it and I'm blown away by his sweetness, but part of me still can't wait to put my real wedding rings back on - they just take on so much sentimental value over time!

  • Hope it never gets to this for any of you ladies. But to prevent ever having your ring cut

  • I had to take my rings off at week 28. I was very upset about, but my husband said that wearing my rings or not did not matter to him. He loves me just the same.
