my youngest sons pediatrician advised me to get the flu shot for my son and myself as soon as it is available but My Ob hasn't mentioned it or recommended it.
Mine was very adamant about the Tdap too, and had a nurse march in and give it to me (he gave me warning and I could've backed out if I wanted to). He also explained my husband needed one as well as anyone who will be with the LO a lot, like her grandmas - who will be watching her when I return to work.
He mentioned the flu shot last time, but it was nothing like the Tdap. I told him I never get flu shots and he just explained that it would be better for me b/c IF I got the flu while pregnant, it would be a pretty bad case, but didn't go beyond that.

I brought it up to my dr. She said I could get it before at the health center or wait until I go into the hospital. I mentioned that the baby wouldn't get immunity if I did it at the hospital and she seemed confused. I'm not terribly impressed with her as a dr.
If there's something strange underneath the hood. Who you gonna call? Your Doctor. If there's something weird and it don't look good. Who you gonna call? Your Doctor. Immediately. If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor. It's for your health and your child's.
I refused Tdap last pregnancy, I got it this time and since I work at a drs office I always get the flu shot so I got it through work not the OB Edit: I refused the TDap last time because I had it April 2012 and baby was due April 2013
My OB recommended these to me around 34 weeks. He said the vaccines cross the placenta and can help protect the baby before they are able to be vaccinated themselves. I believe he said it can take up to 2 weeks for the vaccine to cross over to the baby. If you want to be vaccinated for you & baby, you may want to look into doing it soon!
Already got both of mine. If you are unsure research it. Lots to be said for both sides, but I would rather give my baby any immunity I can before he gets here in the middle of flu season. Talk to your OB and pediatrician if you want more info.
My practice was super stoked when flu shots came in. They were kinda offering them like freshly baked cookies- "Oh, the shot just got here! Come get it!"
I got it the same time as my tdap and so did my husband. I probably could have said no but my midwife assumed I wanted it and she was right.
I was discussing necessary versus unnecessary vaccines with my midwife and she said they give the tdap at 36 weeks. She had never mentioned that prior though.
I got both and strongly recommend them to everyone in third trimester (Tdap has only been recommended by ACOG for about 2 years now, so I think some places forget about it or are just behind on their research).
I did not get it with first until after delivery. That was three years ago, but now things have changed and they recommend getting it around 32 weeks I believe. Pertussis is scary stuff for newborns, so I took my doctor's advice and got it because it passes antibodies to the baby.
My OB recommended both and was pretty insistant (which was interesting because she is really laid back about everything else). She mentioned that flu was also really dangerous for pregnant women (high risk of developing pneumonia).
I asked about the flu shot about a month ago, mostly b/c my DH is allergic to the flu shot and he will likely be exposed to sick people at work all winter, so I was told its best for me to get it while pregnant in hopes of passing some immunity to LO. No one has mentioned TDaP to me yet.
She recommended it because I never had it... But my french doctor (in france) is against the flu one. So I did the tdap, and I plan to do the homeopathic flu vaccine, not the shot.
What about the hep b vaccine they do to newborns ? My doctors / pharmacists in france are super shocked they do it to every baby in the US. And I admit I kind of feel the same....

From what I have heard from a pediatrician, the hep B vaccine isn't really to protect newborns (unless mom has it for sure) but rather it's an insurance policy to protect society. It's something that I feel we can just do later.

What is the homeopathic flu vaccine?
From my understanding (please correct me if I'm wrong), it involves ingesting a small amount of live influenza virus. It's definitely not something I'd EVER consider doing intentionally while not pregnant; I'm shocked that any medical professional would condone a pregnant woman doing it.

It's complete pseudoscience is what it is. It's the idea that injecting yourself with a sample of the live virus taken from an infected person will prevent it- this sample is called a "nosode." They come from infected people's pee, pus, and saliva. AWESOME, huh? (NO. Gross.) However, it is SO diluted that what is left is an injection of nothingness (thankfully).
They don't work. There is no evidence that they work. You might as well believe hand washing and "staying away from sick people" will keep you from getting sick.
I keep my mouth shut on this stuff because I know it's touchy, but I am not cool with the spreading of BS to people who might not do the research themselves.
PLEASE talk to your doctor / doctors (hell, as many as you want) if you have questions about vaccines.

Your decision and cool and what not, I just want to reiterate how beyond important herd immunity is for people who can't protect themselves. People who are immune deficient rely on others to vaccinate themselves so as they don't catch very preventable diseases such as polio and hep.

No it is not that it is something you take all along the flu season, based from plants. It is more like an immunitary boost. Instead of one shot it lasts four months. Homeopathy is all about plants.

I don't know, but mine hasn't said a thing either.
