Austin Babies

There's really a baby in there! (just one, rssnlvr)

U/s pics in sig!  It was so cool!  I have questions though, which I didn't ask the u/s tech because she started off the appointment by telling me that a CP is not a "real pregnancy - there wasn't even a baby so it doesn't count."  <insert image of CJ stabbing her in the nose with the u/s wand here>

So she said I was measuring 5w6d.  My LMP was 11/25 making me 6w3d.  I'm confused about this.  I got a good + test @ 10dpo (and I probably would have earlier too if I had tested before then I imagine) so I don't think I implanted any later than I estimated.  Is it just because they all kinda grow at different rates? I suppose being 4 days behind what I thought is not a big deal, I just wondered why the difference. ??

  • Congrats!

I'm pretty sure they measure by size of the baby, and its all just a estimate.

  • OMG, look at your little bean!!!! I'm so jealous of your early appointment!

My only thought on the discrepancy in progress is that going by O day is more accurate than LMP, but if you are taking into account O day by judging + hpt at 10 DPO, I got nothing. I would just say don't worry about what the ho-bag nurse told you and celebrate your adorable little blob!

    Dear Bump: You suck.

What an insensitive prick.  Ignore her and congrats on your healthy baby!

  • Congrats!! I had my first u/s yesterday, and my OB told me I was measuring 6w6d and by my LMP I was supposed to be 7w6d. He said that I could have ovulated later than I thought, or the measurement could be off a little because they are trying to measure something that is in millimeters, and it is not easy. He was not concerned at all and said that the good thing is that there is a heartbeat and after you see that, chances for m/c go down to 3-5% from about 12%, and after the first trimester, they go down to about 1%.

  • Yay Congrats!!  Sorry about the rude u/s tech- not cool.  I've also been wondering about the discrepancy in the weeks.  I'm sure I'll have the same questions when I go to my first u/s appointment.
  • that was just rude. sometimes those techs can just suck. we had one that when we reminded we were having a surprise she went in to my file to find out. hubby said that she used a pronoun and after the birth he said she used him and he. I ignored her b/c she pissed me off by doing that.

Anyway, just trying to say that some of the tech will suck, but on the flip side, when i was having a little issues with someone not wanting to wake up for his check in another tech would take lots of 3d pics for us to have. she was trying to waste some time to get him to wake up and do the test i'm sure, but that was awesome.

I'm glad you got a healthy little bean in there :)

  • I'm sorry the tech made that comment.  I still can't believe how insensitive people can be sometimes.  But, congrats on being able to see your baby!  How exciting!!

  • Your subject line made me laugh because I said the same thing after my first ultrasound.  Congrats!
  • Congrats, the first u/s pics are the best, well until they actually look like something.

  • Yay CJ... that's so cool...you have a little bean in oven :)  Congrats and that tech was rude!
  • It is just an estimate and based on the pricks ability to measure correctly too ;) What was the HB?

*In the fetal stage, there are slight growth variations but the vast majority of embryos grow on a predictable curve until about 20 weeks even. Where you start on the curve is a matter of measurements, which like I said is skill based and the tech can be off a little sometimes (they shouldn't be because they are trained professionals, but you know what I'm saying).

  • YAY!!!! Thats awesome.?

I cannot wait for ours... eek 19 more days!

I'm so glad you were able to peek at your little one... but I will admit, I was convinced there'd be 2 as well. Haha.

How did the DH react to the u/s? ?

  • Congrats! Yeah, the measurements can be a little off. I wouldn't worry about it. Were you able to see a hb yet?

  • Awww!  Wook at that wittle jelly bean :)
  • Wow, what a witch! Ours are both measuring three days behind. In our case they feel sure it is late implantation based on + hpt, betas, etc., but he also said that it can be very hard to get accurate measurements this early on because they are so small. I've heard that even being a week off is perfectly normal early on.

  • Thanks for the info on the date measurements. Yeah I figured it was normal but was kinda wondering. We did get to see and hear the HB! It was awesome. She did not tell me how fast it was, but it sounded pretty dang fast to me! Becko, funny you should ask how Dh responded... we had an argument last night about how he was feeling like it wasn't real for him (which I guess is par for course for guys), and he said he wasn't going to be all that excited. I was kinda pissed at the way he said it and because I really wanted him to be excited, and he was acting like it was no big deal. But during the u/s he was grinning ear to ear and after he said it was a lot cooler and mor exciting than he anticipated. So I forgave him. ;)
  • YAY!!!!  I'm sorry that tech was such a B!!  You could always come to my doctor, you already know you love them. ;)
  • Aww, what a super cute little Baby Pixie!!!!  Congrats!

My 1st u/s (at 8-9wks) measured 4 days behind the LMP estimate age, making my EDD 7/10, instead of 7/6 like I thought.  My 2nd u/s (at 12wks) was back to the original estimation, so the dr. went with that, with the EDD being 7/6.  She said when there's a discrepancy between u/s and LMP, and between different u/s, she just goes by LMP.

Turns out, he was born on 7/10, so maybe the 1st u/s was right after all!!

  • Hooray for little baby Pixie. What a jerk-face that tech was. I am sorry that she said that to you. So glad to see your little baby in there looking good and ditto what has been said regarding measurements. Hearing the h/b is such a great moment. I'm really excited for you and Mr. CJ!
  • Oh, what a sucky tech! B!tch. Your pics are awesome. How exciting! And I'm glad MrCJ got excited too. :-)
  • Yeah for a cute little bean!!!  Boo on the poopy tech.
  • Very exciting! ?Other than that biitchface tech, of course.

I know Anderson measured all over the map in the first tri. ?I had an u/s nearly every week and the measurement always varied by a couple of days, so I wouldn't sweat it. ?:)?

  • OMG!!! I'm so excited for you!!!! ((huggs)) Keep me posted!!!!
  • Yay for your little bean. I can't believe the tech was such a biotch. You should tell your doc about how insensitive she was. That is seriously unprofessional. I wouldn't worry that you're measuring 4 days behind. Like someone else said, when they are so small, the tiniest error in measurement can change the estimate. And that's all it is, an estimate. Congrats Mama!
