Who's taking baths?

So with the beauty of innocence in my first pregnancy I never worried about anything. After having 2 MCs I now am hesitant about everything! I am not the biggest bath-taker usually but really enjoyed them with my first pregnancy. Lately I've been wanting one with this one (I've been sick with a sinus infection), but am so scared just bc of the horror stories and myths that surround baths and miscarriages. Obviously it wouldn't be that hot, and my doc gave me the go ahead (controlling the temp of course), I guess I'm just looking for reassurance. Anybody else enjoying their baths? Or maybe there's other Nervous Nellies out there?

Re: Who's taking baths?

  • I've never heard anything about not taking baths and was actually about to run one for myself. Things like saunas and jacuzzis are discouraged because they are SO hot. A regular bath shouldn't be a problem, especially with your doctor's go-ahead.

  • I take a bath at least twice a week lol. It's just really calming especially with the growing pains & such! As long as it's not scolding hot you will be fine! If the temperature worries you too much stand up for a few minutes or just raise your belly out of the water during your bath.
  • Yes, everyday. Like PP says, just don't make your bath as hot as a hot tub and don't let yourself get overheated. As a nervous nelly why not buy a hot tub thermometer for your bath and then you'll know you're following guidelines?
  • Love my baths. My OB just says no longer than 15 minutes in a hot tub and to keep your arms and shoulders out to help keep your temp down.

  • Yes! Thank you ladies! Talk some sense into me! I just need to take that first plunge and I'll be good. DH has been offering to draw me one for some time now, I may just take him up on that tonight! Relaxation here I come! (Following a very small rush of anxiety I'm sure
  • I'm a crazy nervous nelly so the first bath I took included me sitting up and not allowing the water to go over my belly (yup- that's me...weird!) - and I totally controlled the water temp...wasn't hot at all! Slowly but surely with each bath I would lay down and start to enjoy -although I still haven't taken one where my tummy is completely submerged. I think you are fine
  • I've literally never heard of this. Like PPs said, it's fine as long as it's not hot-tub hot. Which a bath in your home can't even be because it cools so quickly. Relax and enjoy it!

  • I've taken baths with all 3 of my past pregnancies and never had an issue. I'll continue with this one, too.
  • I so enjoy taking baths.  It's one of the things that has somewhat soothed my nausea and helps get me relaxed enough for bed...  With lots of my lavendar chamomile B&BW body wash.  *blissful dreamy expression*
  • I lived in my bath tub with DD in my last trimester. I'm not lying when I say I took at least two sometimes three baths every day. I had horrible insomnia and could never get comfortable enough to sleep unless I took a bath. Usually would wake up a few hours later and have to start the process over. I even fell asleep in the bath a few times! This time around I'm already taking baths, but partially because I've got a cold and they help with that. In fact I just took a bath an hour and half a ago! It was wonderful!!! As long as the water isn't burning hot it should be fine! I always dip my foot in first and if my ankle feels to hot I'll wait alittle and then try again until it's cooler.

  • Same here! I love hot baths, and I've had then with both of my previous pregnancies, and I have two healthy children. I'm pregnant with my third and I asked my doctor and he said baths were fine. It's a great way to relax. I just use common sense and get out if I make it too hot and I start to feel overheated after my arms and legs are submerged.
  • Um...I'm just jealous of those of you that have TIME to take baths! Seriously, I would love to relax in the tub but it is just not happening right now. With my DD I took them pretty frequently. But now I have a 22 month old running around (and she is in SUCH a tough phase right now that demands every ounce of my attention) and DH's soccer season is in full swing now so he is home MAYBE a half hour before DD goes to bed...y'all, I'm in serious need of some "me time"!  (:|

  • I don't really enjoy baths but I love sitting down in the shower, I'll plug the tub sometimes but it's the actual rain-like feeling that helps relax me. I don't worry too much but I think the goal is to keep the body temperature under 104.

Yup - after bedtime is my only chance now. Not looking forward to not having a midday bath during the 3rd tri this time around. The sacrifices we make ;)

  • I was panicking over low numbers in the lab yesterday, and the nurses actually told me to go home and take a bath! As long as it's not too hot, you're good. ^-^
  • After I finish my 5 loads of laundry you better bet your bottom dollar I will be rewarding myself with a bath. Bring on the Netflix and chill for one please image
  • I've followed the "forbidden foods" list to a T but there's no way I'm giving up baths. They're a lifesaver when my Crohn's gives me trouble. I just make sure the water is cooler these days.
