Exhaustion

The exhaustion is so awful.  I can barely function after 7pm.  Last night I was in bed by 6:30 leaving dinner clean up and putting my DS to bed to my DH.  He was a champ last night, but I know it is going to get old fast.

I don't know if it is because I cut back significantly on my caffeine (I was like a 1 pot per day person, and yesterday was the first day I didn't have any).  I have been trying to keep it to one cup per day.

I know exercise helps.  But how am I supposed to exercise when I can barely keep my eyes open at 6:30??

Help me!

Re: Exhaustion

  • I feel the same way and haven't found an easy solution. The best I have come up with is to capitalize on the times we do feel okay. I have good days and bad, and good moments and bad in any given day. All I can do is listen to my body when it tells me to rest, and do as much as I can (within reason) when I get a burst of energy, even if it's brief! For instance, I found that waiting until after work to workout just wasn't gonna work, so I started going at lunch time. Most of all, give yourself a break! You'll make it through and you'll feel human again soon!!

  • Try taking an evening walk as a family. The fresh air usually helps to wake me up. I have two young boys who are keeping me moving all day and it's exhausting. I'm just praying MS stays away this time. I was very sick with my first and threw up frequently with my second.

  • I just force myself to stay active. I know if I sit down when I get home I'll probably fall asleep, so I try and make myself get a workout in (even if just for 30 minutes), get dinner ready, clean up, etc. I try to remember that the extreme exhaustion should get better once I hit the second trimester. Ultimately, I just listen to my body. As PP said, I take advantage of the days where I feel an extra boost, and do what I can on the days I'm not feeling up to par.
  • I feel you, the early mornings are the worst. I wake up at 5:15 and get myself and two year old ready for work and daycare. Luckily my husband handles our 7 month old german shepherd.
Eating throughout the day helps me, I also frequently get up from my desk.
  • I keep myself moving as much as possible, I do laundry, cook, do dishes, vacuum, take the dogs for a walk. As long as I'm in motion I'm okay. Driving is the worst for me, I have a 45 minute ride each way to work and my exhaustion hits hardest while I'm driving, and makes it terrifying.

Right there with ya. My commute to work is 45 minutes to an hour one way. Driving is what sucks for me. Once I'm home I just try and stay busy.

I legitimately almost fell asleep behind the wheel last week which was terrifying. I forgot how tired I get first tri, and the reduced caffeine just makes it that much worse

  • I was putting together a new desk with my DH last night. Took us a couple hours because there were many many steps/pieces. By the end I had to lay on the bed and watch him finish because I was so spent. And I've been falling asleep at the drop of a hat - which is kinda nice given my history of insomnia. It's not even the impact of not drinking caffeine because I don't drink it anyways.
  • I am fine when I wake up, but as soon as I get in my car to go to work, I am so sleepy! Then when I get home at night I am watching the clock trying to stay awake at least until 9 but sometimes I can't make it until then. My SO keeps telling me to go work out and push through it, but I don't want to force myself to over due it, if my body needs rest to accommodate creating a new life. So I might now work out everyday, but I do try to at least walk around a lot before I get home so I am not just eating and sleeping :).

Did you try the B6? I know you were thinking of it! I hope it works for you, because it has really just helped me so much.  I was awful now Im practically normal, minus some sore boobs and some nausea when driving at night.  Almost barfed in the middle of the street last night and then came home and ate a cupcake LOL.
  • @aloha5736 I haven't yet. Is it supposed to help exhaustion in addition to nausea?!?

  • @NicknShan I just feel so much better! I actually waited today to take it, thinking maybe I didn't need it. Def not! I'm laid out on the couch now. I find that the sickness just wipes me out. Maybe the sick and nauseated feeling is wiping you out. Doesn't work for everyone though :( but I've read lots of studies on it because I'm paranoid. It is very safe with just the B6 only.
  • I'm so tired today. It's been a lot of my butt on the couch while DD watches tv and plays independently. Like others have said, I take advantage of my good days to catch up on housework etc, and listen to my body when I'm exhausted and just take it easy. However, I'm a SAHM so it's easier for me to do so. I'm definitely not bedtime at 6:30 tired though. If you're still vomiting, it could be like what @aloha5736 said and you're wiped out. I hope this passes soon for you.

  • I'm right with you, but B6 did nothing for me. I'm just trying to force an extra few minutes of activity each day. I feel like working in a few extra things when I can is better than nothing.
  • I've heard the b6 doesn't do a lot for a lot of people. I'm very luckily it has made life completely functional again. It either works well or doesn't work at all it seems. I find staying active also really helps. Just pushing through the day!
