"Older" moms?

Any, ah-hem, more mature moms out there (by baby-making standards only, of course!)
I just turned 39. This will be my third, I have a 10 & 8 year old. It will be DP's first - he's so nervous and excited (he was weirdly convinced he'd be sterile)!
I was very nervous that I might not be able to get pregnant again - my mom had very early menopause, and my luteal phase is borderline, but apparently things are still working!

Fingers crossed this sticks, but so far, I'm just thrilled:)

I'm right there with you @rosehip15!! I'll be 39 in December, pregnant with my 2nd, had my DS when I was 37. Didn't meet my kickass hubs until later in life, it's kind of fun being an older momma! Excited there's some 'old ladies' to go thru this journey with!

Hi there! Not sure what "mature" is but I'll be 34 next month and this is our first kiddo. We are hoping for another one after this too (fingers crossed this lil' nugget is healthy). I was focused on my career in my 20s and didn't meet H until 29 so we got a later start.

Me! I'm 40 and will be 41 when this little one arrives. My older two children are from a previous marriage and are 14 and 11. I remarried 4 years ago and we had a little girl who will be 3 in December. This will be baby #4 for me. I had a few moments of "what was I thinking" while I was pregnant with my last one because my children were 11 and 8 and the thought of starting all over with a newborn was daunting. But she fit into our family so well and we all adore her. I can't wait for her to have a sibling closer to her own age to play with.

Hi! I'm 38 and this is my first. I'm a newlywed (married in May), so yes, I also took a while to find the man of my dreams, and I also spent a lot of time focused on school and career. I always wanted two kids, and for a while I thought that dream was dead, but I actually got pregnant easier than I thought I would given my age, so who knows!

So fun! This might be me...DP & I would love to have another after this (I know I'm getting WAY ahead of myself). Unless, as he's convinced, it's twins this time. We shall see! My kids have been begging for an "extra baby" (as my son puts it - I guess anyone who comes after him is just a bonus) for years, so I can't wait to tell them. They'll be 11 and 9 when this one arrives.

DP is also a mature first time Dad - 45. And shaping up to be a nervous wreck! He just called me at the office to make sure "everything is still ok," that I've been keeping hydrated and to text him as soon as I get home. Very sweet, but the novelty better wear off or I'll go bananas!

I just turned 37 yesterday. The pregnancy was a total surprise, we didn't think I could have kids. Still adjusting to the idea! I'll be 6 weeks tomorrow. Hubs is 39, so we are kinda glad it happened because who knows if there would be another chance!

I'll be 38 in a few weeks. Had my DS at 36. I was always told I wouldn't be able to have children and now I'll have two under two. Thank goodness my husband is 10 years younger than me.

@mokiki my hubs is 8 years younger:) Ill have 2 under 2 as well, scares the crap out of me a bit, but figure its now or never! so great you beat the odds!

@mebaby333, sorry for your loss:( congratulations on this pregnancy!

cracking up @rosehip15, your husband is adorable, though that checking in will get old real quick! you and @schrutebucks can give us tips for our kiddos when they're a bit older!

I'm 39 & will be 40 When we have our first baby. This is DH 4th, his kids are 24, 21 & 20. All of us are very excited to begin this new chapter. Took me a long time to meet the right guy & I'm actually glad it did. Hoping to just get through this first trimester smoothly & quickly as I had a MC in August. Best of luck ladies!!

43 here, 44 at EDD (albeit my babe was conceived when I was 38 after IF/RPL stalled us for 7 yrs - 1st b at 39, 2nd b at 41 and now this potential miracle). Glad for wisdom, missing energy!

I'm 36. I'm so glad to find that there are quite a few of us who are at this stage a little later than the "norm." My internet searches have not been comforting, so...yeah, I'mma stop my "research." This will be my #2.

Hi everyone. Just found out yesterday that we are pregnant with our third, and very excited. We'll both be 37 when this one arrives. I was 33 when our daughter was born and 35 when our son arrived. We are planning one more after this (but it is up for negotiation after each).

It's nice that there are "older" moms here! I feel like my first BMB was mostly younger women... and I was 4 years younger then (I was 33 when I had DS). I just turned 37 and my husband is turning 37 soon as well.

Does anyone have any advice or special precautions or steps you are taking during this pregnancy? I did switch to a special 35+ prenatal, but I am not sure if there's anything else I can/should do that's different from the first time around or because I am older (we gotta find a better term for this). I want this baby to stick (first of all!) and to carry closer to full-term. My first appointment isn't until November 2nd, which seems so far away.

Me too! I'm 35, will be 36 when this lil' nugget shows up. I was 33 when I had my second. Are any of you over on the Pregnant after 35 board? Looking forward to hanging with you guys in here! I love BMBs that have a great mix of younger moms, FTMs, older moms, etc. Such a wealth of different experiences

@CourtJack I've floated by the Pregnant over 35 board but it doesn't seem too active. It'll be nice to be tracking with you guys though because we'll all be going through the same stages of pregnancy together. For the most part I think things will be same for us as it is for the youngin's. The major difference is that we'll probably be offered more in the way of early genetic testing (cell free fetal DNA testing, CVS, amniocentesis, etc.). And we have slightly higher rates of some complications, but with good prenatal care the chances are very good for each of us to have a totally healthy and uncomplicated pregnancy.

@alileecam I'm curious what's different about your "35+" prenatal. I've never heard of them. I'm just taking gummies right now - they taste good.

Ditto. However, I'm NERVOUS this time. I didn't worry much at all with my first two (they're 10 & 8 years old), but now I'm a nervous nellie. And I'm NOT AT ALL, with either medical or kid stuff, in general. I guess I'm worried, b/c God forbid, something goes wrong, I have less time to try again?

I have this absurd fear that if I strain during a BM, I'll push the baby out. Yup. I've lost my mind. I better mellow out soon, or it will be a LONG 9 months...

@redheadbride15 It looks like the differences between it and the same brand's regular prenatals are that there are slightly different digestive ingredients, plus ingredients to promote your circulatory system, and energizing ingredients. The amounts of some of the vitamins are higher/lower too. They're the Rainbow Light Embrace Prenatal 35+. They are also 3x/day, rather than the Rainbow Light Prenatal One I took before and during my first pregnancy.

I'm 37 and DH is over 40. I was 36 when DD was born. I remember asking my OB about my AMA. She laughed and said most of her practice was women over 35. It's a major east coast lifestyle. I'm happy that my last pregnancy was uneventful. Hopefully, this one will be, too.

35 going for #2! Our daughter is 1 year old. She's fierce. We hope for more. Going to aim for 3-5 if fertility and finances allow. We got married late. I'm previously divorced from a "bad boy". No kids from that. I thought I never would until I got to know my husband and have this second chance at love and family! My husband is a wonderful man and father and I hope my daughter finds someone like him when she's grown. Gentlemen are the best!

Hmm, sounds a bit vague. Sorry, I'm a scientist and need facts (like it contains 1.5x more iron and 2x as much B6) and one of my pet peeves is supplements that claim things like "energizing" but don't have any information to back up the statement. I'm skeptical of a lot of the information out there about vitamin needs, with a few notable exceptions. Plus 3x/day won't work for me. Glad it's working for you though! Thanks for the info!

Haha - it's totally the same here! I'm in Boston and I work in a hospital. The average age of a new mom on the maternity wards here is about 37. Over 40 is common. Under 25 is rare. Granted, it's a high-risk center, but it's still remarkable. The city is also FULL of gray-haired moms with babies strapped to their chests, or pushing twins around in strollers. Oh, and IVF and other fertility treatments are covered by most insurance policies here, which also contributes to the pattern. I love it!

@redheadbride15 Those were my (layman) summations of the differences. You can look up the actual blend and amounts of each vitamin and additive. (For example though, the 1x day prenatal contains 15mg or 600% daily serving of B6, where the 35+ contains 25mg, or 1000%.) I have no idea if it's working "better" than my other 1x day vitamin--I just started a few days ago.

I'm 34 and will be almost 35 1/2 when this baby is born! I got married young, and had a detailed plan in mind: I would have kids at ages 27, 30, and 33. Then I would adopt my fourth (an older child) when my little ones resched their teens.

Yes, I know that my plans were way too specific! As it turns out, I actually had kids at 25, 29 and 30! My husband decided that he didn't want to adopt, so this "surprise" baby will be our last.

I feel a lot older than when I was pregnant with my third at age 30. I didn't even have any fine lines or gray hair then. Now I have just a bit of both!

Hi ladies. I am 37 and I will be turning 38 a month after I give birth to my first baby. My husband is 42 and is super super excited. He has been ready since we got married 4 years ago. Like, if he could have been the one to be pregnant, we would have tried the night of our wedding. I needed to see my nephew be born and see what life was like with that angel before I had the "urge". Now... I am stoked! We call our little one Tuna Sub (TS for short) for an inside joke between hubby and me and before he leaves the house for work every morning, he says "bye love, bye TS." I love that he already loves our nugget so much.

Hi all! I'm 36, husband is 38, and I spent yesterday taking every pregnancy test I could get my hands on to convince myself the first one wasn't a fluke. We have a daughter (2) and just started trying for #2.

In case you missed this last year, researchers at Boston University found that women who conceive naturally after age 33 are likely to live longer: “The natural ability to have a child at an older age likely indicates that a woman’s reproductive system is aging slowly, and therefore so is the rest of her body."
