What time do you put your baby to bed?

My little guy is just over 5 weeks old and we've been putting him to bed for the night between 10-10:30. (He'll sleep 5-7 hours straight, then another 2-3 hours after getting up for a feed ... yes, I know I'm very lucky and feel for you mamas who are struggling for sleep still!).

If your baby is sleeping well at night, what time have you been putting him/her down for the night? I'm torn between keeping this bedtime for now until I go back to work at 12 weeks, or putting him to bed earlier now (which would mean waking up earlier and I'm not a morning person!). He gets pretty fussy at night between 8-10 p.m., which makes me think maybe I should be putting him to bed earlier.

Thank you!

  • Between 1-2:30am. He was always awake from 2:30-4:30am in my belly so we're slowly making progress lol I don't mind being up late though and my hubby takes him in the morning and let's me sleep late. When he goes back to work I'm not sure it'll be much though so hopefully he starts going down earlier
  • Around 7-8ish. At least that's when we switch over to night time mode (dark room, little communication, etc.) I sometimes wake her at 9-10 to feed.

  • I start our bedtime routine at 7:30-8. She's not quite 4 weeks so I'm not expecting miracles, but we do the same thing every night, she's usually down by 9:30. Sleeps till 2. Diaper change, nurse, burp, nurse till 3. Up at 6- same deal, then back down till 8. Not bad for now. Hoping as she gets a bit older to keep making some changes so she sleeps longer. But figure get her used to an early bedtime now for when I go back to work at 12 weeks
  • The last four days we've had a pretty solid routine of bed time for everyone at 9:30-10ish. Baby sleeps until 1, gets changed and fed and goes back to sleep. I go pump. Baby wakes up at 330, gets changed and fed and goes back to sleep. He wakes up when dad gets up for work at 645ish, and dad feeds and changes him while I pump. If I'm really lucky, baby and I get one more sleep until 9:30-10ish, but the last two mornings he's been really gassy and hard to get to sleep. I'm so hoping that he starts eating more at his 1 o'clock feed so he sleeps through his 330 wake up.
  • I would keep doing what works for now. Babies are fickle-by the time you go back he could be doing something totally different.

I put baby down around 6-6:30 for a nap when we finish supper. Lights are dimmer then too (just a lamp and maybe tv). After my toddler goes to bed and I tidy up and get things ready for baby for night, baby wakes and feeds a couple more times while I read, usually 2 bum changes and 2-3 feeds, then goes to sleep in my (dark) room around 10:30pm and sleeps a 4-6h stretch. I can usually get her to do 2 shorter stretches after it, so I get decent sleep, and there's time for me and DD1 to get up and dressed before baby wakes for the morning. We're only at 3.5 weeks though, and it's been like this for 2 weeks, so I'm sure it'll all switch up soon haha.

  • I let the baby decide. Usually it's between 10-11.

How much do your babies weigh? Does it matter for how long they sleep! My little guy is less than 8lbs still and eats every 2.5-3 hours on the dot. It's a month old as of today! Crazy he is already a month!!!! My little love! :-)
  • My LO is only 3 weeks old at this point but I let him pick when he sleeps and I don't try to make much of a schedule with him. I wake every 3 hours to feed but if he goes back to sleep great, if not he'll be awake.

  • Baby goes down around 900 to 930, sleeps until 2, eats, sleeps until 5. Is up for a few hours and then goes back down about 730 for about 3 hours. That's when I get my nap!
  • 11-1130....she wakes up at 3am and then at 6am

  • It depends when her feedings fall but she's usually in bed by 930ish and I go to bed then too. Then I'm up around 130-2, then 6ish and because of my toddler I'm usually up for the day once that feed is over and I get her back to sleep.

My guy (now 5 weeks) weighed 11 lbs 2 oz at his 4-week exam, so I'm sure he weighs even more now. (He was 8 lbs 10 oz at birth.) I think weight can make a difference though; my friend who had huge 10 and 11-lb babies were always excellent sleepers, whereas my friends with smaller babies took a bit longer to get there. Totally depends on the baby though! I find my baby eats less during the day (every 3 hours), eats more late afternoon and evening (every 1.5-2 hours), then goes for long stretches at night (which is actually perfect for when I go back to work so he can nurse more when I get home at night).
  • Mine goes to bed at 9, 12, 3, and 6. I don't know what "bedtime" is versus daytime. It's a pretty consistent 3 hour schedule around the clock.
  • We do bath at 6-6:30 then he feeds and down to bed by about 7-7:30. Sleeps until either 11/12 and then up about 3:30 and then 7ish. He's 4 weeks old and we're trying to keep to a nighttime routine and then in the day he does as he pleases. Seems to be working well for us and I'm getting enough sleep! :-)
  • I try to do night time routine starting at 7pm.. but in reality baby does not go to sleep until 10-11:30pm since he is fussy from the 8pm feeding onwards. His morning starts around 5am.

  • I just realized I typed 'it' instead of 'him' above. LOL yeah...I also called my baby the dogs name in a very sleepy deprived moment. @jen83mn I think my baby weighs more now(7.7 on the 28th)! My little guy seems to eat the same amount, 2.5-3 hour apart, all day/night. Lol
  • For the last week, our bottle feed is between 8-8:30 and that kicks off bedtime routines. Usually we are all out by 10. He's up again between 1 and 3 once or twice to eat and have a diaper change.

I'm sticking to this and hope he does too for when I go back to work. I'm generally useless after 7.
  • We start his bedtime routine at 6:45-7. I feed him until he's content and/or falls asleep which has been around 8-8:30. Then he sleeps anywhere from 3.5-5 hours. When he wakes I change him, feed him, put him back to sleep. He typically does another 3-4 hour stretch, then I wake him at 6a so he can eat before big brother gets up for daycare. I'm working to establish the routine for when I head back to work.
  • Late bedtimes are normal around this age.  That said, DS2 tends to go to sleep for the night between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm.  My first had a later bedtime between 9:30 and 10.
  • Mine has been between 10 and 11,but closer to 10. We're doing a loose schedule that she put herself on, where she sleeps from 10 until around 3, then short feed and diaper change and back down until around 730. Then I try to EASY every 3 hours during the day (eat, activity, sleep, you) roughly 1030, 130, 430 and 730 before starting bedtime feed and routine at 930. Hopefully I can increase the amounts she's eating during the day and move the bedtime to 730 soon. I'm concentrating on getting the stretch from 10 to 730 continuous first and then move the bedtime up incrementally, through advice of my pedi. He had both of my nieces sleeping in 8 hour stretches by 6 and 8 weeks, and is working for my daughter so far too!
  • Mine is usually 8. I was keeping him up later but he got way overtired. He's 4 weeks now and will sleep between 5-9 hours. He nurses again and back to sleep for a few more hours. Usually we are up for the day around 7.
  • I put LO to sleep around 11-12. He only wakes up once around 4:30-5am.
