First off, Liam had his 6 month check up today. 15 lbs, 25.5 inches, 42 for head. 25th percentile all around. He's not huge, but he's bigger than his brother ever was, who was always in the 7-10th percentile.
Anyway, I asked doc about rice cereal and he said "I don't ever recommend it, but if you do, I say not till 9 months." I thought that was interesting. I told him I didn't do it anyway, but i was wondering if he would say "No do it!" Glad I went with my gut on that one. I also asked about testing his hemoglobin (iron levels) and he said at 9 months. I've heard BF babies have iron deficiencies a lot. I eat a lot of red meat though and take my prenatals, so I'm hoping that helps.
Lastly, what I really wanted to share with y'all, lol.. He gave met his food list of what to feed when. So i thought I would share it with you guys. Hope it helps! If you want I can email it to you since I have it in PDF form too. Email me at: jave@cfl.rr.com.

Re: 6 mo appt & Food list for babies
Thanks for posting this. I have been wondering about how we are going to roll out foods. We have our 6-month appointment next week.
My friend that has a 9-month old has been feeding her bacon and grilled cheese and some other foods that I thought seemed a little advanced but she said it is good to get them used to those type of things but I was not so sure.
I find it odd that avocado is under the 12 month age. T's pediatrician was saying I could give it to him once he is sitting unassited and that was at his 4 month appt. I wonder what he will tell me next week at his 6 month appt.
I'm not sure where they got that list from, it doesn't make sense at all why they recommend those foods at those ages, there is no scientific nor traditional backing to it.
No meat until 18 months? Canada now recommends meat as a first food! Avocado listed as a 12 month food? It's a perfect first food! Etc. And the new recommendation is NOT to delay peanut butter or other potential allergens. The entire list doesn't make sense.
I've always heard to wait after 1. Not from my pediatrician, but from things I've read.
But you're right though I didn't take into account that different doctor's have different opinions. I trust ours very much.

That is the old recommendation. New research shows there is no correlation between giving peanuts earlier or later and allergy development. I work at a children's hospital, our Chief of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology says don't wait on peanuts. American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says the same thing, no need to wait.
My pedi said the same when Ds1 was a baby. I think she said theres new research that actually shows the longer you wait to feed peanut butter, the more likely they'll become allergic. Or something along those lines lol. She said the only food off the list was honey. We should try everything else. I was still worried so I waited til Ds1 was over a year old and I just put a drop on his tongue lol.
My oldest didn't do meat until about 18 months. He had a really bad gag though. He had sensory issues with food too. So he really didn't do well with solids (like thicker purees) until about 15 months. So.. much... throw up!! Blah!

I have a question sorta related for the OP 15 lbs was 25th percentile? DS weighed more at his 6 month but was in a lower percentile. I wouldn't ask if for the fact that his weight is really closely monitored since he was a preemie and didn't get on the charts until 4 months. If DS should be in a higher percentile, I want to know. :

BFP #3 October 6, 2015. WHAT???
I guess so! Didn't realize it till this post and all the ruckus it caused, lol! So much for trying to be helpful.
I asked the doc as he was marking it on the chart what was the percentile and he said 25th. Same for head. I just looked up some charts and there are weight for length and weight for age. Not sure which one he uses. I guess I'm not too concerned with percentiles though because he is almost outgrowing his 6 month clothes, so I know he's ok.
ETA: I guess he's doing weight for length because when I did that one, he was between 25th-50th percentile. That's from a chart from the CDC I found online. On the weight for age, he's 10th percentile.

She also didn't give us any limitations on types of food, just said three times a day.
SCANDAL!
Wow, DS has had a LOT of "older" foods according to that list. Avocados were his first food and he loves chicken and salmon. He even likes duck liver mouse. Oh and he loves yogurt for breakfast.
Whoops!
