PJ's after delivery

Re: PJ's after delivery

  • Where does everyone get their favorite nursing tanks from? I've checked Old Navy (terrible reviews), Motherhood Maternity and Amazon who don't have much of a selection. Ideally, I would like them to have built in cups. Any suggestions are appreciated!
I bought a couple from Target! They had a pretty great selection, and were decently priced.

Glamour Mom. But only the long length large bust style. Best tanks ever.
Bravado isn't bad either. Target ones are horrible.
  • Im planning on taking night gowns that button down in the front for easy access (dark colors of course)
  • I hear you're bleeding pretty much the entire time after delivery so I'm kinda worried about ruining clothes, I think i'll bring some PJs for after just in case, but most likely I will plan on staying in the hospital gown until I put my going home outfit on when I am released. It just seems easier, less of a hassle, and perhaps more comfortable.

You definitely do bleed a lot but they give you these awesome huge like really super huge pads and mesh underwear that is so comfortable!! At least that's what my hospital gives. I was always able to change into my pjs the following day after most of the large amounts of blood came out.. Def still bleeding but the pads really help.

I ordered several from H&M and like how soft they are and their fit is nice (at least over my belly) Not too poorly priced as well.
  • I'm bringing something just in case. From what I hear, you don't want to be too attached to whatever you bring to wear, though, in case you happen to bleed through.
  • I hated hospital gowns!! I am not a gown person, and the hospital linen smell bothered me. Loved me some yoga pants and a nursing pajama top. Yes you bleed, so don't bring your favorite pair, but bring what you are comfortable in.
  • Good idea to pack and see how it goes. Walmart has these right now and they are pretty soft so I was thinking of getting a few to have on hand.

Just bought them online. Hope they're soft! Thanks :)

Ended up spending 40 extra bucks to get the free shipping lol. All baby stuff so it's all good. :)
I checked my local Walmart last night and they had my size in stock so I picked some up. I think they are pretty soft, not like the starchy fabric some other PJ's have. I wanted to get some nursing tanks and sleep bras too but their in store selection SUCKED! So I will have to do the online route and spend the $50 for free shipping as well LOL
Yeah, I got 2 nursing bras and a tank...finished it off with diapers to make enough for free shipping. Lol. Figure those can't possibly go to waste. :)
  • Have any moms just worn a pajama top with no bottom? Would it be weird or gross to be wearing only the mesh panties (and all the lovely pads and inserts)? I figure I'll be covered by a blanket anyway, so to spare my supersoft VS pajamas I could just leave the bottoms off until bleeding is under control (if that even happens while I'm still at the hospital).
  • @Puddlewonderful I did that, I bled quite heavily and went through mine. So instead of ruining my second pair I just took advantage of the blanket. I was hot anyway, labour wards are boiling! You can use a dressing gown/robe if you need to get up at all.

    That's a great idea!!

I was actually thinking of doing the same thing. Lol. I thought it would be weird but who cares...nobody would know except you and the nurses and I'm positive they've seen crazier things by far! Lol
  • Question to STM+, is it better to bring button up jammies or a gown/ robe combination? As of right now, I am planning to deliver vaginally. However I know that you can't really anticipate the need for an emergency c-section. So I'm wondering if it's better to bring a gown/ robe set just in case? I bought both pjs and a gown/robe set it black for pretty cheap, so if they get ruined I don't really care. Just don't want to overpack!

I think either will be fine. It's more personal preference.. I've used both kinds. With my first I had a robe set with pants, with my second I had a button down pj set, and with this one I bought another robe set with pants. I actually prefer a robe set to a button down. I like the nursing cami it comes with and it's super easy to nurse, especially when you're working on baby to latch and get used to breast feeding.

  • Damn I need to seriously get on this. Neither mine or the baby's bag is packed. With my first, I had a nightgown I slept in. But it wasn't comfortable because I felt like my underwear was going to slide right off with the bulky pad. However, since I wore it with my first son 8 years ago I'm packing it again since this is my last baby and it would be useful if I end up with a csec. I am going to bring pajamas (probably tshirt and shorts) and I want to bring yoga pants a couple shirts and a hoodie or sweatshirt of some sort depending on how the Phoenix weather is going to be when I deliver.
  • I'm not a fan of hospital gowns, but I'd rather have something disposable I can toss off and get replacements.  I think all I'm going to pack besides something to come home in is socks and a cardigan (I'm one of those people that freeze easily).  However, I bought a pair of (non-maternity, just extra large) black yoga pants when all my PJ pants stopped fitting, so I could possibly toss them in for if I feel like I want extra coverage, since I'm not particularly attached to them.
  • I hate PJ's I just have long t shirts or short night gowns, I will bring one with me, that can be easily cleaned :)
  • The last two times I just had yoga pants and a tank top and they worked just fine. I was probably in the hospital gown for at least a day with my first.

and a fun little fact I learned while in the hospital for a separate surgery--if you put the gown on backwards, it works exactly like a robe.

  • Lurking*

With My first child the nurses waited till my epidural wore off and helped me shower and dress while my husband had time with the baby, I opted for sweats, a nursing tank and my husbands tee. My sister in law also brought me adult diapers to wear which I preferred over the mesh panties and kept my clothes clean and protected so that is my route again this time. Tank, sweats and prob a zip up since it's cold in the hospital here. DONT FORGET BREAST PADS! I didn't leak terribly, but I did a bit and you can get yeast infections in your breasts so feed, air them out, rub some colostrum on them and put the pads on!

I was never able to change into pants until the next day, but I've only had csections. I had to stay in my gown with no underwear and they put a big pad thing underneath me for the blood and they would come to change it often. It is pretty disgusting actually, but I can't imagine how many pairs of pants I'd ruin that first day if I were able to wear them.

I just received these in the mail yesterday and I couldn't be happier. Thanks @angelinthepit23 for sharing with everyone.
They're soft and light-weight. I usually wear a small or medium, but went large and they fit comfortably and enclose the bump. Ecven if I decide I don't like them or they get ruined, they were $10!!! I also noticed they have a shortie version as well.
  • I had a vaginal delivery and bled so much that I didn't wanna ruin my own clothes too as PPs have mentioned. My daughter ended up in he NICU and I had to walk around the hospital with a huge pad on so I had to change into something else. I would recommend some comfy black pants and a robe. I wish I brought a robe and slippers.

  • Both times I stayed in the hospital gown the first ful day. Then I put on clothes, nursing thanks, sweatpants/yoga pants. This time I did bring a cute night gown I could nurse in with a light robe to take pictures in of DS meeting his little brother

@Favoritemandms yay! I'm glad you liked them! I agree, $10 is a steal even if you just plan on pitching them. I think I might pick up some extras to wear during recovery at home.
  • I delivered Wednesday night vaginally and I've been in a hospital gown ever since. Two actually...one open in the back and then over that one open in the front as a robe. The gown is just much easier. My boy is in the NICU so I've been trying to pump every few hours. Also with all the bleeding, bulky pads and walking back and forth to the NICU the gowns are easiest to me. I have a bag full of clothes and things and the only thing I have used is socks, slippers and flip flops for the shower. Being discharged today though so I guess I'll have to get back in real clothes.
  • I just bought my nursing tanks (from motherhood maternity), comfy pants (from old navy) and this amazing super soft black robe that covers my bum (from Target.) So I think I am set on my after delivery clothes, at least for the hospital and while I'm at home. I also ordered my slipper socks, nipple cream and breast pads. I'll be packing my hospital bag in a week :) I can't believe we are getting so close!
