Re: BFM 10/5

  • Mine: My SIL is very competitive when it comes to milestones. We spent a couple of hours together yesterday and she kept asking when DD starting rolling over, and teething. She has a 3 mo old who was born five weeks early. Seriously...you can't compare milestones of a baby who was early vs a baby who was 9 days late.

When I wouldn't give in and play her game she started talking breastfeeding and how she was a super producer. Yes honey, so was I. Only difference was we don't know how many gallons I produced (I guess there is an app for that?) because we didn't pump until I went back to work six months later.

What is with the f-ING Mommy wars??
    image
  • Loading the player...
  • The only mommy war I gladly participate in is vaccines. Everything else I give my opinion but am open minded about. I do get stabby when someone posts things like, make sure to research the risks of formula. Like, no. That is so so offensive. (FYI I didn't formula feed but as a mother and human being I am super offended anyway). Not everyone needs to research the "risks" of formula. It is approved by the fda and aap and is the right choice for many families and millions of babies have thrived on it. Yes I think moms could be more informed about a LOT of these things for their babies, but presenting researching the benefits of breastfeeding versus the risks of formula is not how you should phrase that!!!!! ugh.

Can you tell something like this just happened? I won't even post the graphic. It's too ridiculous and got my blood boiling. It also said to research the benefits of co sleeping, and the risks of CIO. ugh. Ughhhhhhhhhhhh.

  • AMEN! My SIL is the same way! She got preg 2 weeks after she met this guy, (DH and I were together 3yrs at the time) she had to have a csection and then the dad left her after the baby was born so I got pregnant 6 months after she delivered and the first thing that came out of her mouth was that my DH was going to leave me and I would have the same horrible birth experience as her....yeah didn't happen and she didn't talk to us for a few years, then she got pregnant by the same guy AGAIN and was bragging about how she could easily get pregnant and how stupid it was for DH and I to try to get pregnant, so again I got pregnant soon after she delivered and she was the same way as before wishing me to have a csection wishing my DH to leave me...because big shocker her spermdoner couldn't even make it to the birth of his son bc he was busy getting stoned. 6 years of this and her kids are always more advanced than mine so she says, and she is so much of a better mom bc her kids have expensive things but it's no secret her spermdoners parents have the kids 98% of the time because she just has to go to this awesome
party......i havent even told her about this pregnancy bc all she will do is call me self centered bc she got her tubes tied to "prevent more mistakes"....DH gets tired of hearing me bitch about her even though he agrees...so that felt good. End rant. :)

Its a school. There are several different parking lots but I parallel park along the curb outside the office so I can pull out easily. Too many parents break the rules for the car line and make it impossible to pull out of the other lots and since I leave when the bell rings to pick up DD, I can't mess with back up from car line so I can get her on time. I still have been parking on the curb, but its much further back and I keep getting cut off by parents who are skipping the car line and are squatting in the teacher parking lot.

  • And before anyone asks, no the person stealing my spot does not have a similar situation. She is an aide, unmarried, lives at home with her mom, and sits in her car and texts until we actually have to clock in  8-|

  • I stopped at Einstein's this morning, which is now my normal Monday morning routine because they do a dozen bagels for $6 (instead of the normal $11). Normally this takes 5 minutes in and out, maybe 7 if I get a coffee. Today it took 15, AND they ran out of cinnamon raisin bagels because some lady cut in line and they filled her order before they filled mine. (But I complained and got a free schmear out of it, so I guess it could have been worse.) At least they still had blueberry bagels...I would have cried.

  • A physician in DH's shared office usually parks in the same spot. DH didn't know this when he parked in that spot the other day. The physician saw DH's car and started ranting about how someone took his spot. The office manager said it was probably another physician (DH). He then proceeded to tell her it wasn't a fancy enough car for a physician. She told him he was a "fucking dick." If they aren't assigned, they're not yours.

  • OMG @imrachella I TOTALLY had this conversation with some coworkers this morning! I teach, we have 1 parking lot that is NOT big enough for our school, and though we do not have assigned parking spaces, we all have 'our' spots.  I know where everyone else parks, everyone knows who's spot is who's.  It's just the way it is.  This year, we have 6 new teachers, and dangit if they ALL don't park in veteran's spaces.  The eyes we shoot each other while huffing across the parking lot say it all, but they still don't get it.  AND there's this one gal....she drives a TINY car.  Apparently she doesn't realize that parking does NOT involve leaving your car nose halfway in the driving lane.  I feel your frustration!! Get out of my parking spot! I am not above chalking my name in my favorite spot!

  • Ok so this technically happened on Saturday, but I am still irked.  So we were re-organizing at home on Saturday so we can make room for future baby stuff to come back out (Swing and Pack and Play) and we moved my iMac to a different room.  Well I shut it down, unplugged it, took it over to its new spot and went to turn it on and the darn thing won't come up.  So I did my own troubleshooting and to no avail, it will not turn on.  Made an appointment at the Apple store for 4:15PM.  We get over there and they were like your appointment isn't until 10/9 4:15PM.  I had apparently failed to notice the day for which the appointment was made, because that was the next available day and appointment they had.  However they said if we got to the store before it opened tomorrow we might be able to do a walk-in.  Well we got to the store about 10:50AM, they opened at 11AM and they were completely booked up on walk-in's for the day.  Apparently they started taking people's names at 10AM, but failed to mention that they would it it that early.  Argh!!!  Now if I had a simple email question or application question, I probably would not care, but literally my computer will not start, will probably need some part that has to be ordered and installed adding to the delay which has left me totally frustrated.  Hard to believe that Apple can let people wait this long to get something fixed.

If this was like 5 to 10 years ago, no big deal.  In a day and age where we do bills and everything else on a computer it can be a big deal.  To each his own, but it sort of is like having my arm cut off because I used it almost every single day.

Last rant of the day, I live in a suburb 15-20 min outside of Atlanta and today I was in a not so good neighborhood where I got stopped behind a bus who let out 20+ kindergarten-3rd grade sized children to this apartment complex where the kids had to cross the street, I was appalled to see only ONE parent get
their kid off the bus. We have had several attempted child abductions over the past month. And it's very well publicized. The child sex trafficking is bad here. Watch your Damn kids!

  • Potty training (or rather an unfortunate bowel incident that has forced us into potty training) has turned my sweet playful joyful DD into a whiny, miserable, clingy, crying, non-playing, non-sleeping, ashamed, and constipated little girl. I am BEYOND frustrated with her and the whole process. I wasn't even planning on doing it now but when she screams any time she has to go and screams poo poo it gives you no choice.

  • How old is she? DS started telling us when he's about to poo. I have no idea where he learned it. He's 19 mos and I am in NO rush but maybe he might be ready? He literally tells us and within 5 minutes he's pood. I really don't ever want to potty train. Diapers are so easy. No accidents while shopping at target.

  • @NachosAndPeaches She'll be 2 in December. I hadn't even intended to potty train but she started, out of the blue, getting so ashamed of going to the bathroom (even in her diaper because we weren't training), that she'll tell us she has to go and cry terribly but won't go...anywhere. On the toilet, in her diaper, on her brand new toddler potty...It's mind numbing and horrible. She just whines and cries and screams poo poo.

We've been taking her to the bathroom with us forever. The past several months she claps and says yay when we go. She even clapped and said yay for me tonight...immediately after crying sitting on the potty herself.

  • My daughter showed interest at 20ish months. It took a few months to be pretty much there, but I can't imagine trying to change a diaper on her now (she's 2.5). We did the 3 day method and it did take a little longer since she was a little on the young side for it, but she definitely "got it". If they're ready, they're ready. Think of all the money you'll save on diapers.

  • @imrachellea how long has she been doing that? And is she playful in between trying to go? Maybe it's the nurse in me, but I would worry about intussusception of colon if this is fairly recent. Its very painful and it presents itself as constipation, but the screaming poopoo and then not going anywhere kind of worries me check out https://m.kidshealth.org/parent/system/surgical/intussusception.html
  • Any suggestion on "pre training"? I seriously wasn't expecting to have to til closer to 3 and he's 19 months, but I'm suddenly thinking he'll be ready earlier than I expected based on his recent behavior this week. He's for sure too young right now but I got a potty. It's in the closing room. He sits on it naked for a second, stands up and closes it and then says bye bye (that's what we do when I pee, he throws toilet paper in and then we say bye bye pee pee). The he repeats it. For like, a dozen times until I get worried he will pee when he's off it since he is naked lol.

Any suggestions on ways to get him to sit on it a bit longer? Should I put it in the bathroom?

Also when he's not naked he takes his puzzle pieces and tosses them in to it and then puts them all back on the puzzle.

  • @NachosAndPeaches I'm a FTM but when one of my sisters potty trained her youngest, she and the older kids would take turns going in and reading to her while she sat. Granted, it turned into a game at that point because the niece just wanted to be read to, one day for 45 minutes before she finally went!

@sbellendier I'm pretty sure she isn't having any specific medical issues. The issue we had, prior to this behavior starting, was in the shower with me. I take her in almost nightly as its just easier. Well, she went #2 on the floor and it totally freaked her out, she started bawling and DH had to take her out. She freaks out at the idea of it, even starts crying when she sees a dog mess in the yard. I did get her to go three times between getting her home from daycare yesterday and dropping her off this morning (once in the potty, twice in her diaper), but she was just so upset about it. It's easiest for her to go if I hold her and rub her back and speak soothingly. Once she went this morning, her demeanor was much happier. I've been doing my research that its very common for kids this age to start being ashamed of their bodily functions, so we're just doing everything we can to assure it is okay, normal, natural. Meanwhile, its just incredibly stressful. We are really REALLY hoping she gets a little more relaxed in the next couple days, as my dad is flying in tomorrow evening to watch her while we go out of town Friday-Sunday...he'll never want to volunteer to do this again if its as miserable as its been for us!

ETA: after reading the info you posted, I'm still quite confident that its a control issue for her. She is still happy to let me tickle and rub her belly and she starts laughing hysterically. She hasn't had a fever or any issues with eating anything. When she has gone, its been normal too.

  • imrachellea,
With DD we kind of had the opposite issue.  She would cry hysterically every time we put her on the potty and at times she did not want to pee or poop.  It was so hard watching her go through all of this, but eventually she got the hang of it.

If anyone is interested I can share what our school/daycare's process is for potty training.  We were fairly successful, although there is an occasional accident.  They have been following this method for the last 2 to 3 years and have found it to be very effective.  From 2 yrs old until about 2 1/2 the kids are put on the potty during the day periodically but not really potty training.  Just kind of getting them used to the idea.  Then when they start displaying signs between 2 1/2 to 3 or they just hit a certain age, they go into the potty training class.  For one week, they do a lot of reading of potty books and discuss the fact that they are going to become big kids and use the potty.  Then on Friday, they have a potty party after nap time and they give up diapers for ever (except nap and bedtime).  Then they come home to parents and we potty train all day Saturday and Sunday, no diapers except what is noted above.  We are to put them on the potty every 20 to 30 min to give them an opportunity.  You pretty much have to stay in the whole weekend, which kind of sucks.  We just put her portable potty in the living room and she could sit on it while watching TV.  We probably had 10 to 15 accidents the first day, so you will be doing laundry.  The second day, we just let her run around naked and we actually found that to be more effective, because she would see it come out of her and hit the floor.  So probably had about 5 to 10 accidents day two.  Monday she was back at daycare and probably had somewhere between 3 to 8 accidents on day 3.  Day 4, there were maybe 4 accidents and then Day 5, 2 accidents.  Day 6 and beyond she was potty trained and only has the occasional accident.  Probably about 2 months after the nap diapers were pulled and she still does night time diapers.  I have heard some of the other kids did it quicker then 6 days and I have heard a few it took longer then 6 days, but I have to say by the time they go into the 3 yr old room, they are all potty trained.  At any rate, I wish you all luck, potty training certainly is tough, but know at some point everyone gets through it.  Good luck to you all!
