Spotting during first trimester

i have had very light spotting the past 4 days down, light pink and only when I wipe. It usually happens more often when I have a bowl movement as well. I went to ER scared to death I was having a miscarriage, the ER doc assured me there was a sac and a yolk and HCG levels were at 9000. I am 6 weeks pregnant today I was at ER 2 days ago at 5W5days. They did not detect a heartbeat though, but said it could just be too early to tell. Should I be concerned if I still have the same spotting, or does anyone out there have this issue as well and still saw a heartbeat later in week 7 or 8? I'm just getting a little concerned. Any advice, or story to help me understand? I guess I'm just having mommy fears!

You have a right to be scared! I'm glad you went to the doctor and that everything looked OK. 5w5d is JUST on the border of being able to hear a heartbeat so I would try not to worry about that.

Are you following up with your own Dr at all? I would try to get in for a follow-up sometime this week. Not for any reason other than I like all the reassurance I can get and I'm not afraid to call my doctor's and ask.

Hey I'm going through the same thing! I spotted for 5 days. Just listen to the ER doctor. It really could have been to early to detect a heart beat. I'm sure everything is fine. I have a thread on this called- feeling confused- and the ladies definitely made me feel better :-) Check it out when you have time. Good luck!

Hi! The same thing happened to me, although the pink spotting only lasted a few hours. I ended up going to the ER as well, last night actually, since the spotting was paired with a severe sharp pain in my lower right side. Your HCG levels seem to be in the proper range for being that far along, although I'm not a doctor. Mine were at 32,000, but it can vary from just 250-170,000 at that stage in pregnancy (at least I think those were the numbers the doctor told me) I had an ultrasound in the ER, which determined I was about 5 days less pregnant than I though. I assumed I was 6w6d, but the measurements indicated that I was 6w1d. I saw the heartbeat but they said sometimes they don't see it that early. They told me spotting can be normal for some women In early pregnancy, although if it is heavy or has chunks or pieces of tissue in it, to go back to the ER or call my OB. Best of luck to you!

So this has been the craziest journey for me! I followed up with my doctor a week ago, when she did the ultrasound it showed only a flat looking sac, no fetal pole/heartbeat and no yolk. She told me I was likely to miscarry and expect bleeding in the next week. I assumed she might say this, and was devasted. Told my boyfriend and all my friends that I had essentially lost the baby and was waiting to bleed heavily. And I did. I had 4 days of fairly heavy bleeding, and on Tuesday of this week I had a follow up appointment to do a last ultrasound and make sure the miscarriage was fully happening and no D&C was necessary. When she went to do the ultrasound, she had a shocked look on her face. She turned the screen around and said, "Samantha, there's a baby in there!" The sac has rounded out and the yolk was visible with a heartbeat." This was Tuesday this week, at 7 weeks pregnant exactly she got me at. I still have some brown discharge with occasional red spitting and chunky brown tissue discharge when I pee as well. I've never heard of anyone having this crazy turn of events like I did. Doctor said after hearing a heartbeat my chance of miscarriage goes down to 5%. Is this true?! Even if I'm still passing brown and red spotting with tissue? I'm baffled that a baby is actually in there after all my spotting and 4 days of fairly heavy bleeding. What are the chances of this pregnancy going to term at this point? Feeling blessed there's a baby with a heartbeat, but nervous to get too excited with all the spotting/bleeding/tissue discharge. Any advice? Anyone heard of this before?!

What did they say when they did the ultrasound @pibsammyk21?

I've had it happen a few times. Light spotting after using the bathroom and after a hot bath (guessing warm bath increased blood flow to ute?). It's nerve wrecking but it happened with my first so I'm trying to be calm. From what I understand is if you don't feel heavy cramping it's likely benign. Some of us gals just have more friable cervixes from all the hormonal changes.

Hi ladies. I'm 6w5d along with our first. Had some light spotting yesterday and today. Then all of a sudden tonight I had some mild cramping and noticed bright red blood and a small clot. I'm so scared! I'm going to call my ob ASAP in the morning. Right now I'm just praying everything is ok. Has anyone experienced anything similar?
