Slightly freaked out - NBR

So my dh is out of town for work and last night I could not get my 21 month old daughter to go to bed (this never happens). She kept screaming and crying and pointing to her closet, so I'm guessing she is developing a fear to the dark. So she slept in bed with me. Then in the middle of the night my toilet in my on-suite bathroom flushed and woke me up... It flushed on its own... Freaked me out a bit!

So that was my night of not much sleep, I must drink all the coffee now.
Anyone else have freaky stories like that?

  • Omg yes freaky!! We have this little musical carousel it's super old. Passed down through the family. It started playing music in the middle of the night. Creeped me right out. That thing needed to be cranked fairly hard to play music.

That would seriously freak me out!!!! The toilet flushed about 7 times on its own this morning, I shut the valve off for water flow so it'll stop... I might have a possessed toilet LOL
  • Eeeek! I love creepy stories. When I was younger, about 5th grade, my parents built a new house. I was home alone and the dryer buzzer went off. I was younger and of course creeped out, the dryer was not running! Just happened once. That's the story I got.

  • I had a dream last night I was performing an exorcism on a demon possessed baby about 2 years old. She was blonde Bob hair but her face was green. It was weird totally ruined my night sleep.
  • We have a walk up attic that we infrequently use (we moved into a big house with little personal items/furniture). The access is through the nursery and after putting DS to bed one night, I snuck in to check on him (he moves a lot and kicks off the blanket so I recover him). When I went in I noticed a light coming from under the door to the attic. Neither DH nor I had been up there in weeks and we know the light was off prior as when we drove home from a long weekend late one night days prior there was no light coming from that attic window. Plus, I would have noticed it during one of my nightly checks on DS. DH opened the door to shut off the light and it blew. So weird! DS's toys also randomly play on their own. We have had some other wicked strange, random incidents, but oh well! I only get freaked out when DS would get panic stricken at night (as a baby) while fixating on a certain spot/corner of a room and then refused to be alone.
  • Omg when I was about 13 or 14 I vividly remember waking up out of my sleep to a man standing at the foot of my bed. This happened at least ten times. I would literally stare at the man in my room for minutes... It freaked me out but didn't scare me at the same time. So creepy.
  • I had sleep paralysis once it was at my exH grandmas house and woke up to the ceiling covered with bugs and a man under the next bed. Couldn't scream, couldn't move. Ran out of there as soon as I "woke up"
  • My parents also say they have a little boy ghost living in their house. He is just loud, not mean. The house creaks and it sounds like someone is coming down the stairs etc. The dog used to stare at spots and creep me out if I was home alone.
  • I have many stories I could tell, when i was younger we lived in a house that had a little girl in it. Lots of waking up to someone yelling mommy over and over. footsteps to your bedroom door but no one would be there.

The first house my husband and i moved into had something in the basement and woke me up from time to time. My dog refused to go into our basement and would just stand at the top of the stairs and bark.

The next place we lived in had an odor that came out of no where and then disappeared, and lots of bangs and creaks.

The townhouse we lived in after that had some serious bad mojo, Our front door opened by itself repeatedly (locked) and my husband got bloodly noses as the door opened ....weird ass stuff and only happened in the month of october.

Our new home has been problem free and im hoping to keep it that way forever!!

  • So many creepy stories!!!

I asked my daughter if she was sleeping in her bed tonight and she cried and shook her head no.. She naps in her room no problem, just has an issue at night now.

@Cook3133 haha poor ghost is having my pregnancy symptoms! So far no missing food! I don't mind the flushing but if food goes missing that's getting personal!!
  • My 6 year old step son has the creepiest night terrors... Last night I heard him shriek, we found him downstairs in the pitch dark sitting at the kitchen counter naked and talking complete jibborish! His eyes were wide open but glazed over and he wasn't waking up or makings sense! We carried him up to his bed where he continued to be in this horrific trance for 30 minutes! Finally he woke up, had no idea what was going on, and couldn't remember his dream. In the morning he remembered nothing! This happens maybe once a month and it's the creepiest thing EVER
  • Creeepy stuff!! I love it! I always thought it'd be cool though to have a helpful ghost haunt you, like wake up to dishes done or coffee made or something.
  • Growing up people didn't believe me that there was something in my room at my moms... I had to sleep with the TV on or with a night light... Even after I was married..(I know that makes me sound like a kid but that room was terrifying in the dark) The dark doesn't bother me ANYWHERE else but at my room at my moms.. You just get that watched feeling and several nights I would have freaky dreams and then have sleep paralysis during those dreams and my husband had it happen a few times too.. Since moving out we haven't had an issue... My brother didn't believe me until he slept in my room one night then he never questioned it again... My mom stayed in there one night recently and my brother said she's having the house cleansed because she swears she saw a black figure in the corner of my closet and then she had the craziest after she fell asleep after seeing it.. Now none of them think I'm crazy...
  • @oorl11052015 I used to have sleep paralysis all the time in my childhood bedroom. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy!!

On a side note, I have an irrational fear of the old lady from "the visit." I have to change the channel when the commercials come on. "Would you mind getting into the oven to clean it?" NOPE.

Ok I had to revive this post because I just saw that commercial for the first time today and I usually love scary movies however I think I will be skipping that movie!!!! Too freaky for me!!!!!
  • On a side note about scary movie commercials- if I'm home alone, I have to mute them and not look away. Especially for some movies! I love scary movies, but not by myself!

  • The only way into our attic is through the laundry room and you need a ladder or to climb the wall, plus there is no actual floor up there, well one night about a year ago while I was alone there were clear as day human foot steps running across the beams. It was to loud to be a racoon or any kind of animal and the weight of it shook the walls. A few months ago my bf stayed there with me and he heard the same thing I had heard about a year ago. So he climbed up the wall and took a flashlight and there was a bunch of chip bags and water bottles and like a little pallet across the beams as I'd someone had tried sleeping up there.

Another thing, when we were taking pics of my daughter being silly one night, he had flash on bc it was pretty dark, well she was in range where my bf could get an image of down the hall and there is a picture on the wall of a baby laying in a flower, (a puzzle in a glass picture frame) in the picture frame there was a clear image of a woman standing outside my room. Her face was to detailed for it to be just a glare from the flash.
A ton of weird things have happened, so often it's to the point we warn people who visit not to disturb our house guest lol
  • I have sleep hallucinations all the time, and they can be freaky. Sometimes, it's just me thinking the dog is moving around the room when he is fast asleep next to me. I've also jumped out of bed because I thought there wa a snake in the bed, or I thought my hair was full of tiny spiders (I literally got the fuck out of bed and made my husband check my hair, I was so freaked out!).

One night, I woke up three times in the same night and thought there was a man in my bedroom and he was trying to tell me something. I was so messed up the next day that I went and bought a bundle of sage (Whole Foods carries them, if you ever wanted to know) and made a salt circle on the bedroom floor and burned sage in the room. Never saw the man again. I'm not usually one for superstition and juju, but I was not getting back into that bed until I did something!

I did this once when I was younger, swore there was a giant spider on my pillow and threw my pillow across the floor. I woke up in the morning trying to figure out where my pillow went until I remembered my complete freak out in the middle of the night! I'm pretty sure there wasn't an actual spider!
  • Love all the creepy stories!

But to your toilet flushing on its own, our toilet in our old house would do that and there was something wrong with a valve or something. Purely mechanical... Though for a few days I swore it was a ghost!

We are thinking it's a hard water build up. It's a dual flush environmental toilet that neither of us are use to lol! Going to have to figure out how to remove hard water buildup I guess!
  • I'm resurrecting this thread because it's getting closer to Halloween, I love hearing everyone's creepy stories, and our 23 month old son just said something odd.
We had to put our 16yr old cat to sleep three weeks ago. Our son has been talking about him a lot and he frequently points to the window and says "home." Well this morning I was reading him a new Halloween book and he pointed to the ghost in the book and said our cats name! No, it does not resemble a cat at all and my husband was right there and said he'd never made any reference about ghosts or the cat. Full moon eclipse tonight, let's hear stories of you got em!
  • My daughter is now scared of the laundry room, she'll look in it, scream bloody murder and run away crying! I have no idea why or if she sees a strange shawdow but it's a bit creepy when it's just her and I home haha! We've only been in this house a year this Halloween, starting to wonder if we bought a haunted house!
On the plus side my toilet doesn't flush on its own too often anymore haha

  • Never in my house, but I love photography and the main subject of my work is abandoned buildings, in particular abandoned mental institutions. I find them interesting because 3 of my great aunts (one we will name our daughter after) were sent to live there for no reason by their husbands. The abuse was horrible, but the buildings themselves have beautiful architecture.

On a trip one day to see the mental institution that my aunts were in, I captured this photo. I was taking pictures of the outsides of the building and was pretty close. I repeat there was NO ONE there but me. Yet when I looked at the picture after the fact, I see a man walking in front of the building. Freaky stuff.
  • @sadyy131 sounds like you have some really interesting family history! I wish I could locate the photo but I have a picture somewhere of my sister and I sitting on the ground and when the pictures were developed there was an image of a man running right in front of us. You could see through him just enough to see my sister and I but also clear enough to see his outlined clothing.
  • OK so I'm a little uncertain what to make of this, but tonight my DS, who is 18 months and says maybe 10-12 words, was in my arms and noticed a new picture on our bookshelf. He started leaning out of my arms frantically and trying to grab the picture. The pic was of me, DH and my Nanny. Context: My family says "Nanny" instead of "Grandma". My Nanny passed away last year and DS "met" her once at a mere 3 months of age. Well I assumed he must have seen me or DH and got excited, but once I set him down with the picture in his hands he starts laughing, pointing frantically at my Nanny and saying "Nan!" over and over again. He can't say Nanny yet so he calls my mom (his Nanny) "Nan". Now maybe if my Mom looked like my Nanny I would think "OK yeah... ". Thing is my mother looks NOTHING like her mom. She looks just like her father's side. We also don't have other pictures of my Nanny on display and it's not like he could remember her. Makes me wonder. I'm not really one to read much into that kind of stuff, but that was just weird.
