It's weird how hard it is to convince older people of changing medical/safety standards. It's honestly worse when the baby comes in my opinion ("No, grandma, they have to sleep on their backs now" and "Mom, it's MUCH safer to leave him rear facing, trust me!"), but even pregnancy stuff changing is really hard for them to understand. I had a half a glass of wine (maybe four, five small swallows?) and my mom flipped out. She also yelled at me for eating a few bites of brie at a family gathering a few weeks ago. I just tell her that I appreciate her concern and then wait until she isn't looking to have more so I don't have to listen.
I haven't gotten any grief about the changes, but I can tell some people are reluctant to believe me and even that is a bit irritating. Especially when I want to do stuff like rear facing car seats until age 4 and that's not the legal requirement.
I hate the argument "we didn't even have seat belts when we were kids and we're fine!" Um, confirmation bias? And why would I want to forego safety measures when they're available?
It makes me wonder what ideas and attitudes I'll have when I'm a grandma!
The "We grew up just fine!" argument drives me inSANE. My mom is the worst because her version is, "Well, I just don't know how any of you guys survived, being that we were SUCH HORRIBLE parents that we didn't keep you rear facing until middle school. My goodness I don't even know how you're still alive." It's the most annoying thing in the world. I'm always like, "Me choosing to keep my kids safe by following current safety recommendations is not an insult to how you parented. I'm not criticizing you. You did the best you could with the information you had, now I'm doing the same thing."
And let's not even talk about how all the kids who didn't survive thanks to crappy seatbelt/carseat laws aren't around to say anything, sooo...

It's 2 or a certain weight, right? If your kid isn't at the weight by age 2, do you just continue to keep rear-facing or switch? I'm generally curious, and think I'd probably do it based on weight...
Since this is FFFC anyway, I didn't know any of this car seat info when my son was born! THANK GOODNESS I didn't put him in a big fluffy coat (born during the polar vortex). I can't tell in the pictures but I have a feeling his straps weren't tight enough and the harnass possibly didn't come from below his shoulders. I shudder to think how he would have been thrown against the straps if we were in an accident.

I don't think not knowing something is flameworthy. But it is why I post carseat safety stuff on my FB all the time. So many people just don't know!
I've been saying for weeks that I'm going to go get maternity clothes, but have always managed to talk myself out of leaving the house. Tonight, I have to go..my bras are unbearable now!

I already bought bigger bras, I need to buy bigger bras again. And I need to buy new panties since these are creeping on me.
@drillsergeantcat I feell like I'm suffocating at my desk right now. I cannot go another day like this, before I go home tonight I will be stopping at the mall and doing some shopping

I put it off forever and once I did it, I was like, "Oh. My. Gosh. What was I thinking waiting????"
@brushesnbrunch Girl get those clothes! Seriously, it's so much more comfortable. One of my students actually said to me today "You look really comfy today." My response was, "You meant to say beautiful, right?" Gotta love teens and their frankness.
Regarding car seat info, it's definitely not flame worthy to not know about it all. It's confusing because the law doesn't always follow the latest safety recommendations, and products that aren't safe are on store shelves. (Like all the add ons for car seats). You have to do your own research or have friends that inform you! Somewhere in here there's a thread that delves into various car seat safety tips...

I know I need to! I tried once with leggings and left disappointed when everything was swimming on me, and there isn't a lot of options in my town and I'm too lazy to go to "the big mall" because I don't want to get on 2 highways to get there... But I think I'm good on pants for now, it's just shirts and bras, so hopefully my target and Macy's has an ok selection...
ETA: went to Macy's before PT and they are having a sale for nursing bras. Buy one get one half off. My boobs were singing in the fitting room!
My FFC is my hubby and I come up with nicknames for neighbor's we don't like. Here are some (my husband was in the military so we've lived a lot of places): Psycho Lady, Donyetti (long story lol), Army Lady, Biff, & Sour Puss.
@Shatzegirl - We do some of that too. There's Captain Pajama Pants (never leaves the house in anything but dirty pajamas) and Meter Maid, a lady who leaves nasty notes on our cars if they hang even an inch over into the alley. Oh and Fran! Our next door neighbor sounds just like Fran Drescher.

Haha! These are great! Glad to know we're not the only ones!
@Kimbarbour08 I refuse to put SO's clothes away. They stack higher and higher by the tv until I fuss enough OR we get in an argument completely unrelated to laundry- then he puts them away. I guess that's his.. Revenge?! Lol
It's funny you say that because when I get really mad at DH, I start cleaning. I'm the laziest person when it comes to cleaning but as soon as we have a bad argument, I can't stop tidying up. Last night we got in a really bad fight so I organized the linen closet in our bathroom...
My FFFC: I haven't called my aunt to tell her I'm pregnant. My mom told me to but I kept forgetting and now it's really late. I'm hoping my mom has said something by now because I don't want to call her. My aunt is the worst negative nelly and I don't want to deal with it. When I called and told her I got engaged, she said "wow! ...have fun while you can..."
I'm jealous of women that have awesome MIL's. I have tried so incredibly hard to make her a part of my pregnancy and she could care less. I am confused because before my pregnancy we had a decent relationship. My FIL is over the moon with the news and I know he is going to be such a wonderful grandfather I just wish he could talk some sense into his wife and she could atleast pretend to be excited. I hope I can make it through the holidays without killing her...
I'm not a super big social media person so I can't see myself ever posting nudie/partial nude pics of my child online. Taking them however seems like something that everyone does. But those two things are completely different from one another.
I do think it's pretty strange to have different personal (or business) policies about boys vs girls in topless photos. They are babies! If people are putting them online I don't see any difference between the kids being boys or girls.
Is there a policy for Facebook or Instagram if the baby is a girl or boy?
Fffc: I haven't worn a real bra since 7 weeks. I bought these $4 spandex bras for stay at home days but wear them every day. Size DD at least. Nipples are always so hard and in pain but I can't seem to care about how awful they look anymore. Soo comfy. Husband doesn't mind either.
@wisco29 I don't think Facebook and Instagram have policies per se, in my friend's case, people self reported her daughter's photos, but not her son's. After a few times if getting her photos deleted Facebook I think recently changed the policy that baby photos weren't considered pornographic and stopped deleting them, but would still let her know that it was reported...

I don't blame you for not calling. You don't need that negativity in your life!
My confession is that I just realized I tend to have some form of fast food every day because I get so voraciously hungry while on the road I can't possibly make it home without eating.

So very true! I live in Kansas and we actually have to keep kiddos in a booster seat until age 8 or they are 4'9 or weight 80lbs. I had no idea about kiddos using booster seats that long.

My mom always jokes that she would have been in a booster seat in 8th grade if they had height/weight restrictions then
My mom as an adult only just meets the height requirement for seat belts! Kids are supposed to stay in boosters until they're 4'9" and she's 5'. Related to car seat safety, it wasn't until recently that I found out kids aren't supposed to ride in the front seat until age 12 or 13.
I bought two pieces of cake at the store they were only 1.50 each and I do not plan to share with my kids. Plus I figure my kids are going to a birthday party today already.

We call one of our neighbors Dexter. She stands in her backyard in a dressing gown, hair wrapped in a towel and has elbow length gloves on.....while she smokes. I assume she's trying to hide the fact she's a smoker from her family but really she could be killing people and hacking them up in the living room too.

ETA: So, we'll RF until at least 4 but probably as long as he is under the car seat height, weight, and 1" front the top limits.

Totally normal! Sometimes when I feel the really light bubbles/taps, I think it might be gas, but then I realize it's not. They do feel similar!
