Re: GTKY: Where are you thinking of delivering?

  • I've known I wanted to use a birth center for a while cause hospitals freak me out and I'm lucky I live close to the only recognized one in my state!
  • Loading the player...
  • The closest birth center is 2 hours away. I am not excited about delivering at my hospital.. They don't offer VBAC's and they currently don't have a neonatologist. Very unsure of what to do!

  • There is no real birth center here, but i am seeing an office of midwives who USED to own a birth center and now just work with a hospital. But supposedly it will be like a birth center type feel in a hospital, but still a hospital. As much as i want a home birth, i am not ready to take that risk, Maybe on baby #2!
  • I would love to deliver at a birth center, but I'm not sure if they allow VBAC. I'll probably end up at a hospital, but I will definitely be exploring my options and possibly switching to a midwife at some point.

  • DD was delivered via emergency c section, so there's a chance this will be a RCS - so we're just doing the hospital again. We had a fairly positive experience last time.
(I honestly don't even know if there's birthing centres near me.)

I've been considering a midwife - I have a few friends who loved having midwives, but it's early so nothing is set in stone yet.

  • We have the BEST birth center in my town!  We are so blessed.  They parter with the hospital downtown for any emergency, but they have basic newborn care, just no NICU.  If there were complications, or if I were high risk, I would use the hospital.  But I plan to be a RCS and love my Birth Center.

  • Birth center, if I get the option! Did a hospital birth with my first, and while it wasn't awful, I want something a little more ... supportive? this time. I interviewed midwives before my first loss, and have already been emailing with the one I want to go with once the RE releases me into regular care. :)

  • I loved my experience at the hospital last time- the nurses were amazing.
  • My 2nd was supposed to be a homebirth. I don't really want to get into what happened, feel free to peruse my old posts in May '14 (though I'm not sure I posted there or not). I'm hoping this time we manage it. Otherwise I have no idea what I'll do.

  • @sthomas1222 is there a good birth center near you? Maybe they can help you plan it out again and come up with a backup plan so you are comfortable.
  • I have had two water births in a hospital with a midwife. I would love to do it at home this time but at the moment we live in a very small apartment.

  • It would be hospital for me because of me being high risk I am a definite repeat C.
  • Definitely the same hospital I delivered at twice before. I loved every minute there, plus the Drs office is across the parking lot.
  • There is a birth center nearby which wasn't an option at our old place. It's an option and I had a long conversation with my doula tonight after work after damn near having a panic attack just making a phone call to the only CNM that does homebirth in our area. I need to look into the birth center again. The last I looked at it we were just our of their radius which would mean we would need to stay at a hotel near them for 1 night so they can do their day 1 PP visit at "home". I'm hoping there can be an agreement we come to... But honestly if I risk out of a homebirth then I risk out of a birth center usually but we'll see :D

  • I had a pretty decent experience with the hospital the first time around, so I'll deliver there again this time around
    DS born 6/2/14 #2 due 5/31/16

  • I wanted to have either a home birth or at a birth center but DH wasn't comfortable with that so we comprised that I would see a midwife at a hospital. I will be a VBAC.

2 angel babies to watch over us- bfp 3/16/13, c/p 3/27/13- bfp 6/27/13, c/p confirmed 7/4/13- We will always carry you in our hearts

  • I'll be at the hospital. I had a very fast (less than 2 hours) birth with my daughter and just feel more comfortable there. I also had her a little early so if I'm on the earlier side again I'd feel safer.
  • I'll be delivering at a hospital. My first was an emergency c section and my second was a vbac. I'm really hoping for another natural birth!

A hospital but it has an AMAZING birthing/maternity center in it. My sister delivered all 3 of hers there and she said it was as soothing as she had hoped
  • I'm hoping to deliver at the hospital I work at. We live closer to another hospital but I'm more comfortable with mine, and my OB only delivers there.
  • I'll be delivering at the hospital I work at too. I worked in OB for a short time lol. My health insurance is much better if I stay at my hospital, I basically have no bills.
  • Hospital all the way.  Thankfully we are less than two miles away from a hospital with a great NICU (though hopefully the NICU services won't be needed).  Plus the rooms are undergoing a complete makeover that is supposed to be ready Spring 2016!  Good timing for us!
  • We'll be having a home birth. I will have a midwife present but plan to be as unassisted as possible.

  • Hospital. We had a relatively scary first birth with our daughter, and will feel speaker being close to emergency care.
  • We're going to be doing a hospital birth again. Ours is a baby friendly hospital, and DS's birth and postpartum care was amazing- I wouldn't change a thing about it.

  • Scheduled c section. Best thing ever. I was up shopping 50 hours after my last one. I hope it goes just as easy this time

  • Hospital, no doubt. I feel much more secure knowing there's an OR and a NICU on site in case of emergencies.

  • I have Kaiser insurance. Pretty sure a Kaiser hospital is what I need to do if I want my insurance to cover the costs....
  • I'm gonna see how this plays out- https://www.treehugger.com/culture/woman-plans-dolphin-assisted-birth-hawaii.html ; then I'll get back you.

  • Home birth. I had DD at home. She was 10lbs2oz and a VBAC (technically an HBAC I guess). It was a wonderful experience.
  • I had an emergency c-section after trying to do a natural birth. I'm going to go back to the hospital and will probably do a repeat section.

  • We are planning for a hospital delivery with my midwife. Also planning on staying comfy at home for as long as possible (I'm from a tiny town a live 2 mins from the hospital).

  • I had a wonderful hospital birth with DD with a midwife. This time because of insurance change I'll have an OB, but I have no qualms with the hospital, I wouldn't change a thing about my last delivery

  • I'm pretty sure I'd prefer the hospital but am hoping they'll maybe let me use a birthing bar or ball or anything that will help open up my tiny pelvis.
