Weeks: 13 weeks, tomorrow What's new with baby?: Had the NT scan this week and saw the brain forming, that was amazing. Looked like a butterfly. What's something new you are doing for baby?: I sorted through all of my son's old clothes so that they were in the correct age brackets...it was really sweet going through it all and I'm glad my new little one gets to wear his big brother's stuff. Symptoms/Rants/Raves: Morning sickness has really dropped off for me, but it's been replaced with headaches. My temper is something else right now, though. I have absolutely no patience for the silliest things...they're just setting me off. People have started "asking around" at work if I'm pregnant so I guess the cat's out of the bag! Questions?: Nothing right now. GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about?: Ohhh, good question! I'm a big reader, especially lately. My fave is Pride & Prejudice. But really any Jane Austen will do. I love to read lots of modern books, as well. I'm really into Christopher Moore (dark comedy, good stuff) and am on a Jasper Fforde kick right now (more comedy, lots of snark). I just picked up Jenny Lawson's newest, Furiously Happy, and can't wait to read that. I also just read a few that weren't comedy and were amazing, Vicious and A Darker Shade of Magic (not a series) by V.E. Schwab. Other than that, I read a lot about cooking and have lots and lots (some would say too many) cookbooks.
What's new with baby?: Size of an avocado (which I always thought was smaller than a navel orange?)...and rocking out to tunes. I've definitely felt some movement!
What's something new you are doing for baby?: I played baby his/her first piece of music, an oboe d'amore concerto by Bach, holding my blue tooth speaker up to my belly. I'm an orchestral musician, and when I play (oboe and English horn) with my ear plugs in, I wonder if that muffled sound is similar to what Baby hears.
Symptoms/Rants/Raves: Not so much a rant, but this week I've had three friends lose their babies. One at 12 weeks, one at 40 weeks (silent birth), and one at 8 weeks. Another posted an article about how to announce your pregnancy to friends dealing with infertility (they've been trying for 6 years). My heart is so heavy for all of them, that I can't bring myself to post my 16 week photo on my blog like I normally would today. I'm so grateful to be having this baby, but I can't help but feel scared that I could be next or that I should just keep my happiness to myself. It's such a delicate issue with no clear answers. So I just sent my photo to my parents, husband, in-laws and best friend. All the loss really makes you think twice about sharing your good fortune.
Questions?:
GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about? I'm addicted to books, but unfortunately I'm a fairly slow reader! Just finished the first book in the Neopolitan series, "My Brilliant Friend" by Elena Ferrante, which was beautiful. To say I "enjoy" holocaust novels sounds horrible, but I'm drawn to the importance of the subject. "The Invisible Bridge" is probably my favorite in that very wide genre. I also love lighter romances and YA lit. Loved "Eleanor and Park" by Rainbow Powell. Loved Game of Thrones and Outlander. Pretty much anything goes! The one bittersweet fact is there are just too many wonderful books that I will never be able to read in this one lifetime.
What's new with baby?: S/he is the size of an avocado. Also, she can hear us!
What's something new you are doing for baby?: We picked out our bedding and hopefully will make some more nursery decisions this week!
Symptoms/Rants/Raves: still really tired and I am experiencing a lot of round ligament pain, but I am sleeping much better with my Snoogle pillow.
Questions?:
GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about? I love mysteries, biographies, and romances. Elin Hilderbrand is my current fav author.
GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about? Erotica if i'm being honest. Nothing wrong with a little mommy porn. lol
Yes but what kind? Inquiring minds... The $5 kind where the pirates get their jollies rogered/damsels in distress in the Highlands (kilts blowing and such) or the free kind on the internet?
I'm a big fan of the cheapies from wallyworld. I miss having time to read!
What's new with baby?: an Onion or a game controller
What's something new you are doing for baby?: counting down the days until my anatomy scan. I cant wait to see how things are progressing, and finding out the sex is pretty exciting too
Symptoms/Rants/Raves: I have had a never ending headache and lots of RLP. Also starting to feel baby a lot!
Questions?:
GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about? I like to read, but its not something I really have time for anymore. Do recipes on pinterest count haha
What's new with baby?: so many things - crazy how much has happened in just 13 weeks.
What's something new you are doing for baby?: trying not to worry every single day that something bad will happen. It's hard though. Hoping to paint a dresser this weekend for the nursery.
Symptoms/Rants/Raves: still tired, and some RLP but otherwise good!
Questions?: none for now
GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about? Uhhh... I haven't read in forever.
What's new with baby?: Peach today, getting his or her teeth and vocal cords
What's something new you are doing for baby?: I told my manager, and another co-worker, he has a huge mouth but is a friend outside of work so he needs to know first.
Symptoms/Rants/Raves: So I think I felt the baby last week, it was a freak incident and haven't felt anything since. I got up to pee then laid back down and flipped over super quickly and then I felt almost what I assume air bubbles would feel like, it was odd, I'm hoping baby is okay. Just feel like I'm surviving between appointments, I feel good for a couple of days then I convince myself that everything has gone to hell. I have a doppler but I'd be so afraid that I couldn't find a heartbeat that it would do more harm than good, but what if I could find it???
Questions?:
GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about? It has been a long time since I've read anything, but I really liked Water for Elephants, the movie was meh, but the book was great!!

G'morn!
15 wks today! And an appt!
My fruit of the week is a pear (or navel orange or Hass avocado or apple, depending on which app you ask haha)!
What's new with baby?:
Making meconium. Yay poop! And all the other cutesy stuff new babies do while they grow.
What's something new you are doing for baby?:
Trying to not worry about stuff so much. I'm a worrier. Trying to drink more water and eat a little better now that I'm not as nauseated.
Symptoms/Rants/Raves:
Holy cow the peeing. I want to drink more, but all the pee! So much pee, so often, and if I have to hold it just a teensy for some reason, it makes me feel sick.
Questions?:
Any way to get the panorama-type screening withOUT finding out the sex? Like, usually my OB doesn't even find out bc we are friends socially and work together, and he's afraid he will slip up. But I have some concerns, and I'm starting to really feel like I need them addressed for peace of mind.
GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about?
Love to read (even though I don't have time right now)! Historical fiction, sci-fi, dystopian society, and fantasy are my fave genres.
Outlander (series) is one of my forever favorites.
And Pillars of the Earth & World Without End.
The Fountainhead & Atlas Shrugged
I love stuff like Harry Potter, LotT, Narnia, Crichton's stuff, Brave New World, etc …
Pillars of the Earth and World Without End - SO GOOD!
I'm seeing a lot of this Outlander series and feel like I have to read them now.
@klgiles12 you can totally do Panorama without revealing the seX. Just tell them that you don't want to know. They made super extra sure we wanted to know before telling us. Outlander is amazing. Except book 5, but power through.
@bntfroggie maybe if you do the Doppler and expect to NOT find it, it will make you feel better if you don't? It took my doc a while to find my little guy...
What's new with baby?: He or she is a lemon! The baby bump is harder to hide!
What's something new you are doing for baby?: DH and I are looking for a bigger apartment or two bedroom house so baby will have plenty of space!
Symptoms/Rants/Raves: The weird dreams are starting to really get to me and give me some pretty bad anxiety. And I hate when people just touch my belly out of nowhere, I'm not a very touchy person and it's a little rude.
Questions?: Nope.
GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about? I love anything by Jane Austen, but my absolute favorite book is North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. I'm currently re-reading Anne of Green Gables.
What's new with baby?: Did the 3D 4D ultrasound on Monday and we know what the little jellybean is, now to work on names etc. Jellybean was trying to keep the secret (spent most of the ultrasound face planted in the placenta.... def my child...) but in the last 2 minutes Jellybean got tired and gave up the goods. Hanging on to the info for now, but announcements are coming
What's something new you are doing for baby?: Names, registries, looking into insurance to see if the breast pump is covered (fingers crossed)
Symptoms/Rants/Raves: I get so full so quick and then I am out of breath... this is the weirdest thing i think i've experienced. i sound like Darth Vader after I eat a half sandwich. Super attractive....
Questions?: Anyone know the lottery numbers fr next week?
GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about? Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Always have your towel!
@j234 Same here with the symptoms! I've had the sore legs at night only and called it restless leg syndrome, but the shortness of breath is killing me. Mine is particularly after I eat for about an hour if I eat too much. The biggest problem is that I haven't figured that amount out just yet. It starts quick and I really dont feel full until after it starts
I totally consider this normal for 2 reasons:
1. we are both 17 weeks, so there's something there (maybe)
2. We are pregnant, and thus are always right, I say it's normal since more than one is experiencing these symptoms
@annamakesthings i am kind of an introvert (IRL, not online as much), and i really don't like people making a big deal, so i usually just casually work it into convo if the convo is going that way (which in my circles it does a lot, bc i volunteer with pregnant and BF'ing mamas). but before i quit work after my first was born, i had come into the large (for our area) orthopaedic practice where i worked (8 surgeons, office staff of about 50 counting myself and the other 7 nurses, and high volume of patients everyday (who were already filling up the waiting room)) and told one of my friends in the reception area i was pregnant. without missing a beat, she picked up the intercom and announced it to the whole flipping office. lucky for her we weren't planning on keeping it secret, and lucky for her i loved her a lot, but i would have liked to have told the doctor i scrubbed for myself LOL.
@klgiles12 ITA with @cmerribury! (about book 5 too - maybe bc there is no time travel in that one?) they are so so so good. the first one took me a little bit to get into (6 chapters? like "Part 1" bc the author is setting up plot. but OMG. OMG. so great! and from your answer, we have some of the same taste in reading material. there is some sex on the books too.
i had considered doing the Panorama bc of some concerns i had, but my dctor told me that even though *i* didn't have to find out the sex, he would definitely know from that, and we have our u/s tech not tell him or put anything in the chart either, bc he will slip up - we hang out socially and work together too, and i don't want him to know before we do anyhow haha @bntfroggie the very girl that spilled my beans at work was the one that gave me her fetal doppler to use with my first pregnancy with the warning that it's hard to not freak out sometimes - she told me she used to listen to her baby every night before bed, and then one night mid-pregnancy she just could not find the heartbeat. they panicked and went to L&D, and everything was fine. she said the L7D nurse told her that she hated the home dopplers. i used it anyway. with my second baby the triage nurse could never find the heartbeat with a doppler and always had to get the doctor (anterior placenta), and with my third baby, even my doctor couldn't find the heartbeat with the doppler until i was 18wks - he would try and try and then just pull me into the ultrasound room (yay anterior placenta again LOL). so sometimes it is reassuring and sometimes it is frustrating. i have one somewhere around here, but i haven't bothered to dig it out this time.

but i still feel bigger on the inside Autism mama!
@oceanchild Yes, probably the lack of time travel (and I can tell from your siggy we both love the ultimate time traveler) but it's also just the LONGEST day ever. The whole darned book takes place at The Gathering, which sounded way more interesting until I had to read 900 pages about it.
for those asking about erotica, it's not my genre, but one of my friends is really into it and compiled a list for a book group i am in .. (@jilloboe@cmerribury@smushi@pinksunglasses16) here it is (she added funny AKA titles, which i am sure make some sort of sense if you read this stuff) -
Total Trash
You MUST read the following Jennifer Crusie books. They are not young adult:
Welcome to Temptation (don't be deterred by the title)
If you like that one ^^, read Fast Women next. Then…
Faking It
Bet Me
Getting Rid of Bradley
Tell Me Lies
Crazy For You
Then anything else she has written…I've read all of those 4,000 times
$5 kind where the pirates get their jollies rogered/damsels in distress in the Highlands (kilts blowing and such)
once, but other than that, Outlander is about as sexytime romance as i get in a book haha *blush* found it! this is the one i read LOL finished it in a few hours

OMG i'm so sorry I'm just responding to you all. Amazon Kindle is were i get my books. I'm currently into SOA spinoffs, Madeline Sheehan (Undeniable series) was my first dip into the MC world/mild erotica and i can't get enough. Also Joanna Wylde, Reapers MC Series. I also like taboo and Jordan Silver offers quick dirty fuckery that's almost unbelievable but gets me in the mood, lol. I did venture into author Viola Rivard, it was ok, not really my genre. Kit Rocha is a good erotica author. Maya Banks (Colters Legacy serires) hmm i read so much i forget who to recommend.
EDIT: cuz pregnancy brain. I have read the Crossfire trilogy, it was quite similar to 50 shades. Ten Tiny Breaths was good and its surprised me, i wasn't hooked on the first page but it ended great. I don't like Jessica Sorenson or Colleen Hoover, makes me feel like i'm in HS again.
@oceanchild Yes, probably the lack of time travel (and I can tell from your siggy we both love the ultimate time traveler) but it's also just the LONGEST day ever. The whole darned book takes place at The Gathering, which sounded way more interesting until I had to read 900 pages about it.
Weeks: 16! What's new with baby?: I heard his/her heartbeat yesterday and got to hear him/her kicking at the wand. Midwife called the baby feisty and said I should be feeling a LOT of movement soon. So it seems that everything is developing well for the baby to be that active.
What's something new you are doing for baby?: Maybe I actually will announce on Facebook this week... I keep telling myself I'm going to do it, but I want it to come across right and I'm not sure how to phrase it. Maybe just a picture of my belly, since it's definitely there now...
Symptoms/Rants/Raves: My symptoms have been good lately! Breasts still hurt, but I'm getting used to that being constant... and the headaches were good this week. I notice that I get really sleepy after eating--and I'm SO hungry. I thought my hunger was high before, but wow, it's really kicked into high gear. GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about? I was a literature major, so my favorite books are all literary classics, with my favorite of all time being Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. The language in that book is just stunning.
That said, my favorite genres are horror, sci-fi, and fantasy, with some of my favorites being American Psycho, Battle Royale, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and The Lord of the Rings. I just finished Coraline by Neil Gaiman--it was the first book of his I'd read and I really liked it a lot.
I'm now trying out a mystery, since I usually don't read them and the genre is so popular. I chose The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammet and so far it's very interesting. I've never seen the movie so I don't know any spoilers about it, so it'll all be new to me.
Yay for a great appt, @AlphabetFish! Will love to hear how you end up announcing! And I loved the book Battle Royale! Just picked up a secondhand copy of 2001, so hopefully I'll get a chance to check it out soon. My copy of Lolita is waiting for me as well. It's one that's been beckoning from my bookcase for a couple of years. My dad was an English professor back in the day, and classic lit has always been his passion, so I had lots of good exposure as a kid. One of my fave gifts from my parents was a bookcase stocked with classics

Weeks: 16 today! What's new with baby?: I went in for my pre-natal appointment today and got to hear the heartbeat. It was very reassuring as I don't yet feel the baby and no bump or anything to speak of. I told her my concerns after seeing so many ladies on here post their nice bumps and wondering if something is wrong with mine.
What's something new you are doing for baby?: Nothing really. We are waiting to find out the sex and since the ultrasound is scheduled for 4 weeks from now, it will be a loooong month. After that, we will start planning the nursery. And our guest room furniture is on sale to free the room, so that helps.
Symptoms/Rants/Raves: It seems that the nausea is quite reduced, but my food aversions are still in high gear and the smell aversions are actually stronger. I can't stand going to lunch places now because of the smell of all the food cooking. Same with coming home if someone cooked. Otherwise, the fatigue is also decreased and generally starting to feel a bit better. GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about? I cannot remember the last time I actually read a book for pleasure. I love reading, but I find there is simply no time for it. When I was single, I loved anything by Anne Rice and the books of Narnia were amazing. So I suppose that's the genre I prefer. Although, I'm also a huge classics fan. Actually, the last book I re-read was War and Peace (in the original).
What's something new you are doing for baby?: nothing for baby, but hubby and I are planning a babymoon! We couldn't take one with DD and we haven't been on a vacation since our honeymoon- 5 1/2 years ago... I think we are overdue.
Symptoms/Rants/Raves: still vomiting every morning and having horrendous headaches this week. My hair is falling out like crazy!!! And, everything smells awful! End rant.
Questions?:
GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about? My favorite book of all time is The Giver! We read it in school when I was in 6th grade and I've probably read it 25 times since then! Haven't seen the movie because I'm afraid it will ruin it for me.
What's new with baby?: growing hair and is creating a real baby bump now
What's something new you are doing for baby?: Going to bed early
Symptoms/Rants/Raves: So happy I don't look pudgy anymore. My bump is taut and looks like a bump. I'm officially wearing maternity pants whenever possible. So comfy!
Questions?: Nada
GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about? My favorite book is Jane Eyre. But I really enjoy reading dystopian books and Stephen King too.
What's new with baby?: Navel orange or pear; moving joints
What's something new you are doing for baby?: I found a boppy (like new!) for next to nothing, and the cover matches the safari theme we're going for. Otherwise, just cleaning out the baby's room since it has been our storage for the past three months (just moved in)
Symptoms/Rants/Raves: The headaches are a little irritating, and I am starting to show already which seems weird to me. This is my first and I'm already showing at 15 weeks.
Questions?: I wonder how many people start showing around 15 weeks with their first kiddo? Seems early to me and I'm a little scared I'm going to gain too much weight if I'm already showing. Is it too early? (I was fairly slim before pregnancy although not tiny).
GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about? Ok, I'm one of those lame-o first time moms, because I like to read articles about baby care and whatnot. But when I'm not reading those, I read murder mysteries and psychological thrillers. Anyone have a suggestion for a good mind-blowing book for me to read?
@lzgraggen - this is me at 17 weeks with my first:
A little farther than 15 weeks, but definitely showing! (I was showing at 15, too. Just don't have a pic.) I don't think showing early is indicative of how much weight you're going to gain. It's just baby. Congrats!

What's new with baby?: Size of an avocado (which I always thought was smaller than a navel orange?)...and rocking out to tunes. I've definitely felt some movement!

What's something new you are doing for baby?: Found out we are having a baby boy! Now that I know I can pick out fabric to make his quilt.
Symptoms/Rants/Raves: Sleeping so horribly. Aside from the peeing all night I can't seem to get a restful night's sleep to save my life.
Questions?: None
GTKY: What is your favorite book and/or favorite thing to read about? Harry Potter, anything Ken Follett, dystopian novels, etc.
@bntfroggie the very girl that spilled my beans at work was the one that gave me her fetal doppler to use with my first pregnancy with the warning that it's hard to not freak out sometimes - she told me she used to listen to her baby every night before bed, and then one night mid-pregnancy she just could not find the heartbeat. they panicked and went to L&D, and everything was fine. she said the L7D nurse told her that she hated the home dopplers. i used it anyway. with my second baby the triage nurse could never find the heartbeat with a doppler and always had to get the doctor (anterior placenta), and with my third baby, even my doctor couldn't find the heartbeat with the doppler until i was 18wks - he would try and try and then just pull me into the ultrasound room (yay anterior placenta again LOL). so sometimes it is reassuring and sometimes it is frustrating. i have one somewhere around here, but i haven't bothered to dig it out this time.

What's new with baby?: I heard his/her heartbeat yesterday and got to hear him/her kicking at the wand. Midwife called the baby feisty and said I should be feeling a LOT of movement soon.

What's new with baby?: size of an orange!
What's new with baby?:
growing hair and is creating a real baby bump now
What's something new you are doing for baby?:
Going to bed early
Symptoms/Rants/Raves:
So happy I don't look pudgy anymore. My bump is taut and looks like a bump. I'm officially wearing maternity pants whenever possible. So comfy!
Questions?:
Nada
