PSA: Discounted Amazon Prime

edited September 2015 in November 2015 Moms
I'm sure many of you already have Amazon Prime. But for those (like me!) that don't have it yet and were thinking of signing up for free 2-day shipping and diaper deals, I found some interesting news. On 9/25, apparently they'll be offering a year-long membership for $67 as opposed to the usual price of $100. That being said, I can't find anything "official" about the sale on Amazon's website yet. But I thought it might be worth marking your calendars to see if this actually works on Friday!

ETA: I just found a statement on their website under "try prime" that does state it will be $67 on Friday. Woohoo!

Re: PSA: Discounted Amazon Prime

  • I read the same thing.  It's apparently in celebration of the Emmy they won recently for some of the original programming available on Prime.  I think I will be buying Prime this weekend.  It increases the amount you get off any registry items from 10% to 15%.  I'm sticking some stuff I plan to buy on my registry just for the discount.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • Prime is amazing. Two day shipping, the instant streaming TV shows/movies (many are free with prime!!), and I'm really excited to try the subscription services.

I completely recommend it, totally worth the buy in.

  • @Vexedmommy - It seems like the deal is good for Friday only. So if you're going to get it, I'd go for Friday, as opposed to this weekend! And that's awesome to know about the registry discount. Do you know if you get 15% off registry items immediately upon getting Prime, or is it after your due date, or something else?

It's 10% 60 days before and 60 days after your due date without Prime.  I'm assuming that upon getting Prime it immediately jumps to the 15%.

  • So question, for those that do the "amazon mom" ( I think that's what it is called), is that an additional charge to the prime membership?

Amazon mom is free with an amazon prime membership. And I HIGHLY recommend getting this deal on Friday.Great price and I love prime. I'm looking forward to setting up my diaper subscription through them.
  • This is an amazing deal! Just got the membership a couple weeks ago so no deal for me :(.
  • As I plan to hibernate this winter while staying home with the new squish, I will be treating myself to this. Streaming movies and tv shows? Yes please! Free shipping? That's Christmas shopping taken care of. And lots of extra free content for the kindle? Entertaining child #1: done and done.
  • Prime is amazing. Last minute Xmas shopping for the win.
  • Got mine today! So looking forward to diaper delivery and 100% online Christmas shopping! And a bunch of new shows to watch during maternity leave!!
  • I got mine today.

  • I have to admit I love having Amazon Prime!  The 2-day shipping is the best and 100% worth the cost to me.  I have to renew my account subscription at the end of October and it says I still have to pay $99 for the upcoming year.  That sucks, I was hoping to get the discount you mentioned, but apparently that's only for newbies...  phooey.  Still, thank you for sharing the info. :)

I also have my Baby Registry with Amazon.com and enough has been purchased through it (thank you family & friends) that I get the 15% completion discount and the Welcome Box.  The Welcome Box was unavailable for many months but finally just became available again so I requested one.  It came with baby wipes, samples of formula, baby shampoo, an Avent bottle, a MAM pacifier, sample of firming serum, etc.  You have to be a Prime member, 100% complete the "Jumpstart" app and meet some set number as far as purchases off your registry before being eligible for the free box.  It wasn't much trouble hitting the $$$ amount, it was more of a problem for me to complete the registry 100% according to Amazon's little app because I am so indecisive and will sit there and read tons of reviews for hours about 1 item and still not make a decision.

    (sorry for the tangent)
  • @ooooner how did you get the welcome box?  I made my registry back in June and have well over $100 in purchases from it but still can't request the box.  I called Amazon yesterday and they said it was only for new baby registries made in September and that I don't qualify, even though they didn't have a box available when I registered.
  • @violetigerlily Hmmm... that's not cool they are giving you problems. I started the registry on Amazon well before September and the site told me the Welcome Box was unavailable up until 2 weeks ago. I logged into the site one day and sure enough it stated the Welcome Box was available again. All I had to do was finish the Jumpstart and then I could order it. The other two things needed to qualify for the Welcome Box were already checked off... the Prime membership and over a certain dollar amount purchased through my registry (not sure how much that was but it's been over $100)... so once I reached 100% on the Jumpstart app, the site said I qualified. Before the box became available to me on the site, I had emailed Amazon about it not being available and inquired when it would be since that was one of the main reasons I created my registry on Amazon to begin with. They wrote back telling me the box still wasn't currently available but to keep checking back because it would be again soon. So, not sure if that had something to do with it becoming available to me or not. Does the site tell you that you qualify for the 15% completion discount yet? If it doesn't that may be why you don't yet qualify, but who knows... I would definitely email them to inquire again if you have met all their qualifications.
  • I got the welcome box for just creating a registry. I made mine quite a while ago though, maybe back in June. I didn't have to do anything except be a prime member (already was) and sign up for Amazon mom. At first I didn't get it, so I emailed them and then they ended up sending it right away. I guess they changed the requirements for it, which sucks.

Huh. I made my registry in June as well but at the time there was a little box saying that they had sold out of welcome boxes and to check back later. I called Amazon last night after getting the jumpstart to 100% (which I hadn't finished before now) and I have over $200 purchased but nothing showed up.  The woman on the line said that it can take 48 hours for it to pop up but I don't even see anything about it being available, much less about me qualifying.  I had asked them about it last week and they said it was because I made my registry in June, which apparently isn't actually problematic, according to the person I spoke to last night.  I'm a little worried that it's because I have Prime Student, but nothing in the descriptions says that it isn't for Prime student members.  I did find out that I don't qualify for Amazon Mom or the 15% discount (I get the 10%) unless I pay $99 to upgrade and forever lose my $49/year membership, which is pretty nice to have. At this point I'm obviously way more concerned about getting this than anyone should over some free samples but I guess it's a principle of the thing issue for me now. They really do make you jump through a lot more hoops than other baby registry stores to get the silly gift don't they?

Yes I agree there is definitely some hoop jumping for the free stuff. I think Amazon Mom is a must to get the Welcome Box, so if your student prime membership doesn't qualify you for Amazon Mom, then that's probably the issue with getting your Welcome Box. If you want the box that bad, which I did, too, you'll probably have to upgrade to the full $99/year prime membership.
  • Thanks @ooooner . Hopefully it will pop up in the next day or so.  I double checked the message about the Sept boxes and it actually does say in fine print that Amazon Student members are eligible (just for the box, not for Mom) so hopefully it's just a matter of being patient for the email/button to pop up.  Thanks for the posts though, it's good to know I'm not the only one who irrationally wants the box so much, and I would have never realized that I needed to get the jumpstart to 100% to get the box.
  • @violetigerlily I hope the welcome box does become available to you after a couple of days... without needing the full upgrade! And you're welcome!
