Pumping

I'm exclusively breast feeding but I'm pumping to prepare for when I go back to work. I wanted to get an idea of how many ounces and how many bottles to leave with the baby at daycare. I'll be working 8-4:30pm

    I read 1oz per hour you'll be away. I am bagging in 10oz because I expect to be about 8.5 to 9 hours. Giving 10 leaves some room for days he is extra hungry. BTW, we work the same exact shift!

    @CaliforniaDream87 is pumping quite a stash for when she goes back to work. I bet she'd have some insight too!

    My LC recommended trying to have 70-80 oz ready for when I go back to work.  She said that should cover 1 week, give or take.

    Yep 1-1.25oz per hour away. You only need a day or two minimum saved up since you'll be pumping at work. Try to plan to nurse right before you leave for work and when you get home. The total amount of oz per hour doesn't change over time. At first I send smaller bottles to feed more frequently (and waste less) so 4 or 5-2.5oz bottles. As lo gets older I make fewer bottles but they are larger, so 3-3.5oz or 3-4oz bottles.

    Just remember that when you're freezing bags to put them in small amounts (2-4oz or the amount your LO typically has in a sitting) so that if LO doesn't eat all the defrosted milk the daycare doesn't toss the rest!! I've read that some moms have had this happen instead of the provider portioning out the milk over the course of the day.

    Thanks for starting this. I was wondering the same thing. STMs, did you also take in some frozen bags that could be used just in case? If so, how much?

    I have no experience, but I'm freezing in 3oz portions. I have about 20 bags so far. I'm pumping usually once per day about an hour after I BF, usually a.m. or early afternoon. I was worried about having enough at first, but I had to remember I'd be pumping while I was at work for the next days supply so I don't need a ton!
    Me: 37, DH: 38: ttc 7 years, dx: unknown
    10/11: after 2 years, saw a RE, FSH 5.4
    11/11: BFP! (surprise after thyroid & normal hsg),
    12/11: missed m/c after 7 week u/s, 1/12: D&C
    6/12 IUI#1-IUI #3: clomid = BFP!, C/P
    IVF #1(10/12) FSH 5.4, AFC: 16 long Lupron, 5R/5M/4F, all 4 made it to 5dt, 1 blast/1-8 cell transferred=BFN
    IVF #2(12/12)AFC 21, MD lupron, 4R/4M/3F, 5dt of 1 blast and 2-8cell. BFN.
    IVF#3(4/13) Natural start antagon protocol, 12R,11F. one PGS normal at day 6 transfer. BFN.
    IVF#4 (11/13) C.CRM (ODW.U normal 8/13 Still no Diagnosis) EPP/antagonist. ER 13R/7M/6F. Only 1 made it to freeze. Abnormal. Looking into options of DE, Fresh vs frozen.
    10/14 new local RE to look into what's next. CD3 FSH 4.7, AMH 0.9. Met with DE agencies and exploring options for feb/march 2015.
    Surprise natural bfp (4 days before donor is signed). Beta #1 at 9dpo: 51.8, 2nd beta: 195 (25 hours doubling) @11dpo. 3rd beta (12/15): 516 (35 hrs doubling) 4th beta(12/17): 895 (58 hours doubling) 5th beta(12/19): 2120. U/S at 5w0d(12/22): one gestational sac with yolk sac. U/S #2 (6w0d)12/29. One little bean measuring 6w0d with HR 124. 3rd u/s(1/4)7w0d: baby measuring 7w2d. HR 134. 3/30: A/S at MFM went great except for low lying placenta. Verifi results are normal! Team Blue! Please send any positive thoughts our way! EDD:8/24/2015
    Baby Will born 8/18. He's perfect.

    I actually went to my dacare today and asked this question since my lo starts on Monday. She told me 20 oz a day. And they want it already thawed in 4 oz bottles. If you EBF you should get lo used to a bottle. I've been working with mine and she took an hour before she would take that first one. Good luck!

    My daycare wanted pre made bottles for DS as well.

    Doesn't 20 oz a day seem like a lot for a workday. If you work an 8 hour day, they'd feed LO at most 3 times. That's 9-12 oz total. Is there something I'm missing?

    @j&d2007, most people work 8 hours plus an hour lunch break. Then add travel time and you could easily be looking at 10hrs at daycare. I work 730-430 and will drop DD off at 7 and pick her up around 5. That's 10 hours for her which could be 4 feedings.

    They are probably overestimating some too just to be safe.

    I have LO at daycare for the last month. He averages 9.5 oz a day. There was his 5w growth spurt that ate through my stash, so I pump today and he eats it tomorrow. DC has about 6 oz frozen so we have a bit of a buffer.
