1st Trimester

Blood pool seen on ultrasound?

I'm 7w2d and had a dating/measuring ultrasound today. She said there was a small pool of blood that was from when the egg attached and said it was common but of course I am nervous now. Has anyone else had this? Will it go away on its own? I haven't bled at all (they asked me that).

Re: Blood pool seen on ultrasound?

  • My tech said I had a little bit of blood, too (12 wk ultrasound today). She only told me so that if I spotted a bit more, I wouldn't be concerned. She said it may get absorbed and I may not spot anymore.
If they say it's no big deal, don't stress!

  • Super common, it's usually the cause of pregnancy spotting. No need to worry :-)
  • subchorionic hematoma ? If that's what you are talking about then yes they typically get re absorbed or you will bleed them out.
I had one with my first pregnancy and it kept getting larger and caused the placenta to separate from my uterus. My situation didn't end well but in the ob office I work at id guess 90% of these clots/bleeds reabsorb or go away by early in the second trimester . Crazy common .
  • She didn't call it that but I will have to ask. She actually said there's a "small pool of blood" and said that's why they didn't like doing ultrasounds this early. But I requested it because I had a miscarriage before having my daughter. This is my 3rd pregnancy and never had it before so naturally I was worried
