Telling your boss...

When are you guys gonna do it?

We have a pretty major project going on right now. So I will probably wait until I can't hide it anymore. My boss would definitely fear for the health of the project, unnecessarily fear. Who knows when that will be since this is my second... I would love to keep it a secret until 12 weeks along.

Re: Telling your boss...

  • I kept it a secret with my first until 16 weeks. I was new to my job and it wasn't planned. But this time I hope to tell my boss after the first dr. appointment.

  • I am planning to tell her privately before Thanksgiving.  I'll be just over 12 weeks at that point.  Sadly she knows I am a drinker and she loves to schedule impromptu happy hours and if I don't drink at those happy hours I am always asked if I'm pregnant.  I've got a pretty solid poker face but that's the only way I could see be outed sooner.  I really, really hope that doesn't happen though.

  • I plan to tell my immediate boss around 12 weeks. The rest can just guess if I am fat or pregnant lol.

Mrsp2213 - You could order a virgin drink secretly, or tell them you're on a medication right now that you can't drink. I am going to a wine and paint night with my future MIL, future SIL, and some other ladies. I plan to either order a virgin drink or offer to be DD this time since MIL was last time.

  • I recruit a friend to help disguise my lack of alcohol. First pregnancy, my SIL and I sat together and she drank my champagne.

  • @mrsp2213 you could also look like the good employee and say you better not drink because you have to get a little work done from home after HH

  • I'm going back to work tonight for the first time since finding out and unfortunately I have to tell my supervisors tonight. As an oncology nurse, we administer radioactive chemo on our floor which obviously I cannot give anymore. We also have transplant patients that can contract viruses that cross the blood/brain/placenta barrier and could harm my lil peanut. So for assignment purposes, work needs to know right away.

I hate it though because it never just stays between the supervisors. Charge RNs need to know because they make assignments but then word quickly gets around and my this weekend all 150 nurses on my unit will know...before my mom even knows. But it's related to keeping me and baby safe so I am coming to terms with it.
  • Oh no @kmd0501 !!! That's awful. I am sorry you have to go through that. At least you'll have lots of support?!?

  • That stinks @kmd0501 !! I'm trying to wait till someone asks me! I think that would be so funny. Realistically, I will tell our CEO (my boss) before I let the cat outta the bag to everyone else!

  • I waited until about 12 weeks with my first and I'll probably do the same this time. Both times have been just a couple months after starting a new job so obviously I have amazing timing.
  • I told my boss right away last time but I think I'll wait as long as I can this time. I'm a teacher and since I'm due june 4 I won't be taking a very long maternity leave.. It'll land during my summer off. So she won't be too bothered about it as far as work is concerned.

  • I am going to hold out until 12 weeks if I can. My boss won't be pleased since I just started a new job.... Murphy's Law that we got pregnant after 8.5 months right when I started!
  • Last time around I waited until it was physically obvious. I plan to do the same this time around. I'm an attorney so, it won't effect my work in any way ... pretty much until I go into labor, barring any pregnancy complications. I'm lucky in that regard. Good luck to the rest of you telling your bosses sooner rather than later!
  • @VikingGirl12 are you planning on continuing your maternity leave after summer? I am also a teacher and I plan to take the last few weeks of school. And then take 9 weeks in September/October.

I will tell my boss at 13 weeks.
  • I'll be sharing at 13 weeks- that's when we'll be sharing on FB, and I'm friends with my direct supervisor.
  • @amangels2 in planning on going to open house and spending some time getting my room ready at the end of the summer, but I will be taking some time off after summer break is over. Not sure how much time yet tho. I worked until the day before I was induced with LO so ill work as long as I can with this one too. Def not going back to work 8 weeks after the baby is born like I did last time tho!

  • I'm planning on waiting until around 12 weeks as well. I just started a new job three months ago and this wasn't planned so I'm definitely nervous!

  • I already told my direct supervisor. I have a sleeping disorder and can't take my med while I am pregnant. That means I have a doctor's note for nap time. I felt it only right that my boss know while he was working with our disability department. That being said, I have a really great relationship with my supervisor and it would have been a lot more difficult to have that conversation if I didn't know he was going to be so supportive no matter what. Good Luck Everyone!

I am a nurse at my ObGYN office so I will have to tell them soon, they will all see my name on the schedule! And I work directly with my Dr so of course he will know!

  • I'm waiting until I can't hide it anymore, probably somewhere between 12-18 weeks. I'm a private person and I know if I tell my manager, the entire office will know!
  • I'm an actress so I am hoping to be cast in the Christmas show. I won't tell before because I don't want to sway any casting decisions. Probably close to 17 weeks which is when I'm probably spilling the beans to family too.

  • I plan to tell my boss tomorrow at 4.5 weeks. I plan to announce on FB later this week. I believe if I were to suffer I loss, I shouldn't hide my grief.

  • I'm unsure when I'll disclose. I'm an RN but on a med/surg floor so don't have the same concerns as @kmd0501 but if an assignment came up that had me concern I would disclose. This is my 3rd but first time working while pregnant.

  • @CupcakesRamazing - that's how I feel but my husband is 180. He wants to wait to tell even our immediate family until 1st tri is over. He would rather tell them if something bad were to happen, then make them happy and then sad. I disagree. I am pregnant now. I want to celebrate. And I want my family to know.

We will see where we end up with telling family for now...

The good news is - we have a tailgating weekend with friends in a few weeks. 6 of us are traveling to Purdue to watch them play the Gophers. So, alcohol will be flowing. Odds are likely we will need to tell them. I am making the excuse that we cant tell friends before my mom even knows. So FX that I get to share the news in 2 weeks.

  • I wouldn't say anything until I'm out of my first trimester or if I'm REALLY showing before then.
  • I'll probably be telling my manager after 12 weeks or so.
  • Told my boss today, went great!

  • Just told my bosses too. They are so excited!!
  • I was sitting at lunch with my boss today and my friend (from a former BMB) messaged me. It said "eeeekkkkk! Your going to be such a cute pregnant lady again!" It popped up on my screen as I was showing him something! I don't know if he saw it or not?!

  • I've already told my boss that I'm pregnant. It was important that they know right away because I could be assigned to a patient that I should not be treating due to potential harm to the baby if they did not know right away. She actually guessed before I could tell her. I told her that I still had a headache after three days and I was not feeling well and she asked if I was pregnant.
  • I waited until 13 weeks to tell my principal and coworkers last time, so hopefully we can pull it off again this time. I have a feeling it's going to be hard to hide though!

  • My boss knows I've been going through fertility treatments, and I've actually been out since Monday due to complications with OHSS, so I feel like I need to clue her in and let her know that I'm pregnant.
  • I told my boss a couple days ago. I didn't want to, but they want us to time how long we go to the bathroom. My "potty numbers" as I call it have been terrible! So he needed to know why.

But, it went extremely well! He was really really excited. He was probably the most excited person I have told including DH...

I wasn't worried about telling my boss because I work for a very large company. I have also been pregnant before while working for them. It's a nice supportive company so I know there won't be any backlash to me.

  • I can't say where I work as its a HUGE well known company... But yes, I'm supposed to time how long and how many times I go to the bathroom.

They claim they don't care how long it is, but I don't believe it... It has to be added into this other data as to why we have to do it.

I have no idea if it's legal or not, but if anything is ever said to me about it, I'll find an attorney
  • I'm a nanny and can't decide when I should tell "my family". The kids will be out of school before my due date so I don't think I'll be working with them over the summer. I sorta want to tell them right away and just get it over with. But I also feel like I should probably wait. So conflicted!

**Lurking from April** there is absolutely no way I would comply with this. None.
