GTKY - What do you call your unborn LO(s)?

I don't think we've had this one yet, but nicknames have come up in other threads. What do you call your little baby now that he/she is still in your belly?

Ours is Boontje ('Boan-cha'), which is Dutch for Little Bean. DH has decided that if LO is Little Bean, I am now his Pod. :P

Re: GTKY - What do you call your unborn LO(s)?

  • We don't really have one actually. We just say "baby." Before I was pregnant, during the two week wait, we called it the "maybe baby" :)

We called DD sesame because she was the size of a sesame seed when we found out i was pregnant.

This one DH wants to call ted, because he likes the name.. Im not so sure but will see if any thing else sticks. Doesn't seem right to use sesame again.

We call it baby brother bc when one of us is in the mood we start saying "baby brother?" Which is code for "wanna have sex?". And now it's here

Last baby was called Moldy and we still call her that. Moldy after mowgli from jungle book. Dh has never seen it and gets confused easily.

  • Peanut or Parasite for now... I don't really feel that way about baby but in all practicality thats what baby is right now. DH really doesn't like parasite, i don't know why he gets so upset about it.
  • We started with "Schrodinger's Baby" and now mostly use "Flipper Hand" after I went a little crazy over this random image in our baby book (those pics are mostly gross or creepy, but something about that close up on the little developing hand is the most adorable thing in the universe).
  • My hubby and I call her/him Baby Who- as a nod to Doctor Who and Dr Seuss. Our two favorite doctors :-)
  • Baby D 3.0

  • My husband's name is Thomas and for awhile when talking about what life would be like with a LO, we've been referring to the imaginary child as "Little Tommy." So I'll say things like "You know, if little Tommy was with us, we'd probably walk down to the park on Sundays instead of having brunch with friends" or things like that. It was a way for us to talk about how life would change. The name has kind of stuck. So now it's "Our first appointment for little Tommy is in a week!"

  • Sometimes it's little one, other times it's peanut. With DS, we called him jellybean until we knew the sex, then it was little guy-- or his name.
  • I use "little bean" a lot.

I also use "baby," but always in reference to Archer. I imagine soon it'll become "the wee baby Seamus."

  • 'Baby' usually, but sometimes something relating to how big it is right now. Ovia says it's as big as a ladybug this week on the weird but cute animals part so we've also been calling it 'Bug'.
  • Poppyseed. It started out based on the 'fruit' size. Now the name has stuck even though now we have a sweet pea!
  • Bean or nugget. With my son I couldn't call him nugget because I had a really bad experience involving morning sickness + McDonald's chicken nuggets which I was sure I NEEDED and then threw up all over the car.

However, with this one, nugget seems to fit. I also randomly called it "berry" maybe because the ticker fruit size is a raspberry. MH did not like that one.

  • My wife has been using "Kid 2" which I'm not crazy about...I've mostly been talking to it as "little one."  With our son, we called him "chieflet" before we found out the sex.

  • Well I was trying to tell DH that is was a blastocyst right now (I am only 4 weeks) I was having trouble saying it and he was like a "blasphemy"? So that has stuck for now. But I told him that pretty soon we have to come up with something else. I'm thinking "lil noodle". DH nickname is "Da Noodle" (not from me) so that kind of fits.

  • Baby A (our last name begins with A). We keep it simple :)
  • So far, it's just "the baby." I'm not letting myself get too attached yet (loss in May).

  • Full on 90s reference here but somehow DH started calling out little on jabroni and it's stuck. Idk how I feel about it and I'm hoping it's not around forever but that's it for now.

  • Babes seems to be his name for the time being.

  • We call it baby and I've been calling it "punkin" lately. I think it'll change once we find out the sex.
  • We're calling the baby Little Foot. One day Ovia had a picture of what the baby would like, and I thought it looked like a dinosaur. DH started referring to baby as Little Foot after that.

I called my daughter parasite too. Lol. Until she started moving A LOT! then we called her squirmy. This baby we've been calling squirt.
  • "Speck." Our first (MC) pregnancy, when I told my husband, sometime early on, one of us talked about there being a baby in there, and I mused that really, it wasn't more than a speck right now since we were probably 4w at the time. Speck stuck, and transferred to this pregnancy, which we are hoping sticks. It reminds me of Horton Hears a Who which is fun, even if it wasn't intentional. Not sure if a new nickname will come about as the pregnancy continues, or if Speck will forever remain Speck, regardless of size.

  • Since it's still a top secret affair, we don't have a nn. When we bring it up, it's just assumed that we both know what we're referencing. If he doesn't, then it's something like, "You know, that one thing." Maybe once I hit the 12 week mark I'll feel better about a nn.

DS was referred to as "Bacon" because of my intense cravings for red meat last time. This one we've been calling "número dos". I said it randomly and DH keeps using it, so it seems to be the name for now. Trying not to say "baby" so DS doesn't start running around screaming it just yet.

    Edit because words are hard.
  • We refer to LO as bambino. I guess if we find out it's a girl it will become bambina
  • We call ours the little nugget
  • Peanut has stuck with us. Or 'our little peanut' sometimes.
  • Seahorse. DD was peanut. LO looks like a seahorse.

  • We call this one "Mayby" for a couple reasons. May + baby = Mayby. And because we're in pretty deep denial still about having another baby (*GULP*), so we joke we're only maybe having a baby. We planned for Mayby, she's very very wanted, but goodness 2 under 2 scares the pants right off of me.
  • We call the baby "Prinzessin" which is German for princess. Don't know why we just started with the female version :) will see if it turns into a prince ;)
  • "Baby Bit". DH has always called me "Lil' Bit" and when we found out I was expecting he put his hand on my tummy and said "My Lil' Bit has a Baby Bit in there." It stuck :)

We just say " the next kid" or try not to be any more specific since my 3 year old is always listening to our conversations.

  • Usually I just say "baby" or "pumpkin seed" to DH but in private I like refer to him/ her as "my little tapeworm" because I get so hungry like I have a tapeworm!!
