Re: Breast milk and diaper rash

  • Breastmilk can help with diaper rash, but if the rash is caused by yeast, it can actually make it worse (yeast feeds on sugar, including lactose).

Stop using wipes until the rash clears. Use a soft washcloth with warm water, and pat instead of wipe. Give her skin a chance to dry by leaving the diaper off for a few minutes. If it doesn't clear up, contact her doctor.

  • Thanks! We have stopped using wipes and are spraying her with warm water ( she loves it) it's getting better.

She was screaming in pain the first day even going in the bathroom.

  • We use cornstarch as baby powder which helps with the rashes (bum and under chin). Keep an eye out to make sure it's not thrush, like she said regarding yeast.
  • We switched to petroleum jelly or aquaphor instead of desitin and those types. The seemed to make it worse instead of helping.
