Be honest!!

Re: Be honest!!

  • I love red wine and have craved it this pregnancy, funny because I couldn't have cared less about it when I was pregnant with ds. I've chosen not to drink while pregnant. I am a worry wart and prone to irrational guilt. I followed all of the strict rules for this reason. When my son was born at 32 weeks I felt huge amounts of guilt. I felt like my body had failed him, even though rationally I knew there was nothing I could have done to prevent ot. Having been so strict during pregnancy helped me to let go of some of that guilt.

My decision not to drink is personal as is that of women who have chosen to occasionally drink small amounts.

As far as drinking while bf'ing I abstained for a few months because of his prematurity but after that I'd have an occasional drink. I'd usually have it during or right after feeding him to allow maximum time for the alcohol to leave my milk. If I planned to drink while we were away from home I'd bring 1-2 feedings worth of pumped milk as a back up incase he was hungry early.

  • 22 weeks along and I have had one 750ml bottle of red wine the entire time I have been pregnant, which has been 4 glasses. I want to buy one more bottle and drink that the rest of my pregnancy.....Getting to the point now that it would actually kind of be embarrassing to walk in a liquor store or grocery store and even buy the dang thing.
  • Yep! Champagne and red wine.
  • Haven't had any yet but I do plan to have a half a glass of champagne on New Year's Eve for sure!
  • I'm at 21 weeks and last week I've been really fancying a glass of red. But I sniffed it and ran to the loo. Alcohol is a trigger to my morning sickness still so no wine for me : (
  • I honestly didn't think about having wine so early in a pregnancy! I would love a sip lol since I get bad migraines from red wine does anyone know if it's ok to have a glass of Pinot Grigio or a Zinfandel? I am 39, have fibromyalgia and have two boys that will be 13 and 9 both in Nov. I went through all the genetic testing bc of my age and I'm having a girl! My Fiancée and I are so happy. So a glass of wine would be awesome!!

There's absolutely no reason why having a glass of red wine would be ok, but not white or rose. If you want a glass of wine, have a glass of wine, regardless of color.
  • Since being pregnant I have drunk maybe 6 gasses of red wine. I have stopped completely now.
  • I've had a total of 3 wine spritzers since second trimester. Which is 1/4 of wine mixed with cranberry juice and ginger ale.
  • I haven't had a single drop of alcohol since I found out, nor will I. I'm not a wine person and mainly drink vodka and would hate to subject my baby to that!

@shinyspade I absolutely stay away from liquor. My friend's DH thought I could have a pickle martini and she was quick to correct him, lol.
  • @willashbaby My idea of a pickle martini right now is a martini glass filled with pickles. Mmmmm. :)
  • UK advice is not to take the risk. This study reveals it can effect IQ. Obviously it's individual choice but based on a risk that can be avoided why take it?

Moderate drinking in pregnancy 'harms IQ'

  • I've had one wine spritzer with sprite and some cranberry juice, and just yesterday I measured out 4 oz. of red wine.  Other than that, sometimes I just need a couple of sips and I am satisfied, so I'll sneak a sip from DH's glass.  I've consumed wine 4 times since becoming pregnant and I am 22w.
