  • A nice cold beer :D
  • Abita Strawberry. My one and only alcoholic beverage since December 7, 2014. I would have preferred a margarita, but I drank a beer to help my milk come in.
  • I still haven't had mine :(

I've had a half glass of wine here and there, but bc LO feeds so unpredictably I can't really commit to a full drink. When he's on more of a schedule after we figure out his reflux 100%, I'm enjoying a nice Sarnac Carmel Porter! It's my fave AND it's seasonal, timing will be perfect because it should come out soon!
  • It was a Guinness for supply and I hated it. Last week I enjoyed a mango Mimosa with brunch.
  • Sangria swirl margarita. It was fabulous.

Omg on my honeymoon I literally drowned myself in sangria margaritas!!!! Those are the best. I can't find them anywhere where I live ugh.

I had a beer as my first drink. And a couple glasses of wine sporadically since then.

  • I had a half a hard cider.
  • Sam Adams Octoberfest
  • Negro Modelo at the Mexican restaurant, I wanted the margaritas, but I am bf'ing so a beer can boost supply :-)

  • Red wine. Like half a glass (:|
  • I wish I could! I'm still EBF and my supply is too low to do the pump and dump method! I can't wait to have my first glass of wine! I'm hoping on my anniversary in October I'll be able to enjoy a glass!
  • Sam Adams Octoberfest, fall beer is the best! My midwife said as long as my BAC is low enough to legally drive, it's low enough to BF. So I will open a beer after she falls asleep in the evening, and that has worked well as she generally to sleeps at least 2 hour stretches, if not 3-4. They also have come out with these strips where you can test your BM for alcohol. I haven't tried them, but may be a good option for those who are wary to drink and BF? I saw them in target in the breastfeeding aisle.

Do you have On The Border near you?? That's where I get them and they are amazing :)

  • Some sort of sparkling wine. I can't even remember!

  • I don't even have a taste for hard alcohol anymore. I had a glass of chilled moscato and it was everything I needed!

Oh my goodness! I craved michelada's while pregnant for some reason. I haven't had a drink yet but when I do... Michelada all the way ;)
  • I had my favorite drink. It's vodka with peach schnapps champagne & fresh fruit. So yummyyyy. I was also worried since I'm EBF...
    1) Bc I didn't want baby enjoying my marvelous cocktail & 2) that after such a hectic pregnancy I would be able to contain myself to just 1. So I gave in & supplemented with formula for that night. I'm so attached to my breast milk I couldn't pump & dump it so I held onto it & by morning I was engorged. Lots of milk for baby accompanied by lots of pain for mommy. :((
  • I finally had some red wine a few nights ago. Hubby wouldn't let me have any while I was attempting to BF, despite everything I've read and tried to explain to him. (Switched to formula after having no supply, barely any wet diapers, and too many tears) I should be grateful he was just trying to look out for DD, but honestly I was kinda pissed. I finally talked him into getting me some because he didn't quit smoking like he's told me he would more than once....
  • A raspberry beer I used to love.. But I didn't. Anyone else notice a change in taste? I can't even taste a mixed drink without gagging. Darker or sour beers taste the best.. And red wine. I've always loved wine but my taste in beer seems to be different...
  • Went out to chilis for dinner and a girls night, ended up sitting at the bar and having my first legal drinks. Went home 2 margaritas later feeling like I drank an entire bottle of tequila =P~

Alcohol leaves your milk the same way it leaves your blood. Approx 1 hour per drink depending on your weight. Pump and dump is a total myth and not necessary.
If I want a drink I flea it until he is done a feed then I enjoy a glass of wine and 2 hours later when he eats again the wine is out of my system.
Hm this is the first I've heard that. I feel like everyone I know who EBF, pumps and dumps. I'll have to ask my LC about this (I am probably just being overly cautious but I have been since day 1 of pregnancy, I cut out all caffeine, etc.) I'd love to enjoy a glass of wine and often only get 1-2hrs b/w feeds (per doc orders, we do feeds at least every 3hrs and they take about 75mins to complete, including pumping after).

This is on kellymom.com @kwest1007 youll see where they talk about the alcohol leaving your milk like it leaving your blood.
  • My first drink after the munchkin arrived was Southern Tiers Pumpking beer. Out of all the zillions of pumpkin beers out there, Pumpking takes the cake!
Also, in regards to pumping and dumping...it is a complete waste of milk. You metabolize alcohol and it's out of your system within 1-2 hours for a glass of wine, beer, shot of alcohol....etc...this was echoed over and over to me not only by my doctor, but 2 lactation consultants. One actually made it a point during a breastfeeding class to point out that pumping and dumping is a myth and there's absolutely no need to do it. You just need to wait it out. This CAN lead to some engorgement depending on your supply. When I have a drink, if 2 hours haven't lapsed, I simply feed her stored breastmilk that I had pumped previously.
FWIW, I didn't find this out by asking around about alcohol. My doctor actually volunteered the information when I was inquiring about the safety of taking meds after my csection and she explained how different things that we ingest metabolize through our system and do or don't get passed through breastmilk.
  • I had champagne first but less than half a glass. I got a sangria at one of my favorite restaurants and I had about 2 sips, it's so strong! Last night we had an end of the summer party with the crew so I had some cider. I normally love this particular one but all I could taste was the yeast used to brew it.
