First big outing advice, tips!

So Sunday we are going to a pumpkin patch a little over an hour away. Im guessing we will leave around 12 and be home around 5 or 6. We havent been gone this long or this far. I am EBF at the moment (trying to introduce bottles, but doing that at home because we need major work right now). As a FTM I was just interested to see if anyone has tips or advice for when they are gone this long with LO. She will be 5.5 weeks Sunday.

We are bringing the stroller, but im hoping to just wear her so im able to walk through the pumpkin patch as well.

Re: First big outing advice, tips!

  • Make sure to take plenty of diapers! We went away last Saturday to visit my parents about 50 minutes away from home. I took 10 diapers and we went through every single one of them.

  • I always bring my boppy and leave it in the car so I can nurse her in there if need be...so much easier than trying to get comfortable someplace else IMO.

And wipes! We learned the hard way that our travel wipe container doesn't hold as many as you'd think.
  • Bring an extra outfit or two for baby.
  • Everything PP said plus... Bring an extra outfit for yourself! This will save you from walking around smelling like spoiled milk. It never fails that my LO spits up on me when I have no extra clothes!

Im reading this to DH! I told him I wanted to bring the boppy just in case I needed to nurse in the car while there and he asked if I wanted to bring the sink too!
Hahaha!!! My guess is your gonna return home and say "I think we packed too much". Your boob is all she'll need! Ok the diaper and wipes sound appropriate too
    :))
  • Some other ideas...

Muslin wraps or something to hang in the car window while you're nursing in case you need extra privacy. I've also sat in the back seat to nurse when I've needed to, as it's a bit more closed off than the front seat.

Two full outfit changes for LO in case of major blowouts!

Plastic bags for stinky poopy nappies and clothes.

Hand sanitiser (I've never been to a pumpkin patch so I don't know what facilities they have!)
  • PP's pretty much have it covered. Pacifiers if you use them. Also not sure what the weather is like where you live but I always have a little jacket and light blanket for LO just in case.

Have fun! I love pumpkin patches!

I always have pacifiers near even though she 9 times out of 10 wont take it, but you better believe im taking one still just in case a meltdown happens and it by chance fixes it!
  • We did this very thing last Sunday. Our dd will be six wks on Sunday. I brought my Moby thinking that I'd wear her - but she's to the point where she likes her head out and I was worried about the sun. So my recommendation is a hat for the baby- preferably a sun hat :) Have fun
  • Nursing cover, wipes, diapers and 2 change of clothes. I am out for 3-4 hours couple times a week that all i ever needed.
  • Have fun! Sounds like everyone else has covered the basics. I actually like nursing in the car. The first time we went out after munchkin was born, she was hungry and I bolted to the back seat of the car and realized that it's nice how everything is stationary and I can put my feet up without the furniture moving!! Always be prepared for an alternate plan though and go with the flow. We went to the mall the other day because my grandfather died and my husband, a pallbearer, wanted a different suit. (Taking a 3 weeks old to a funeral was interesting in and of itself) Well the baby totally spazzed out and there were torrential downpours and major flash flooding so I couldn't go out to the car. Nursing in the dressing room it was! With no music at all except the little chirps and gurgles of my little princess.
  • My only tip is don't overthink it! It will be easier than you thought it would be and probably way more fun than you thought it could be. We have been out all weekend the past two weeks and it's been great to know we can still have a life without having to change much except making sure we are somewhere comfortable for a feed when the time comes. LO has dealt with it better than we could have imagined. :) good luck and have fun!
  • @Laurmi sorry for your loss!
