Blatant Food Post

So I'm planning to make my FIL some sort of dessert for his birthday this week and I need ideas and who better to talk about food with than you ladies. Since it's pie time of year I was thinking, well, a pie. I did a strawberry, blackberry, and blueberry one a few months back with a homemade crust (first time making it from scratch) but I dunno. He isn't picky but I do want to do something cake/pie like, unless it's something super amazing.

Gimme pictures, links, ideas. Anything you got. And then also, this is a general dessert discussion as well because I am seriously in a dessert mood.

There was a pumpkin thread recently where I posted a recipe for pumpkin pound cake. It's the easiest recipe ever. You could dress it up with some kind of frosting/chocolate drizzle if you wanted.

Mm mm, I second Apple pie, also if you don't want a traditional pie, there was a recipe for a chocolate hazelnut tart in my newest King Arthur catalog that I really want to try, it looked amaze-balls!

I've made this lady's cinnamon rolls, a few of her different cakes, scones, and a few other things. Everything has been AMAZING.
I totally recommend her recipes, plus the pictures and stories are delicious and adorable.

I have no pie recipes, but Samoa cheesecake (made to taste like Girl Scout cookie samoas/caramel delights) is completely ridiculous. I made it for an office party and it was inhaled!!

Though I don't think I'll do that for his birthday I now will be making that for my SIL as thanks for hosting my baby shower. She is obsessed with Samoas.

@oorl11052015 Lol, I really don't think something called Oreo cookie balls could turn into a fail. Even if they look weird. Or sound weird. I've always had this thing with foods called 'something-balls'. Lol

Here's the reese's how-to:

"35 mini reeses cups - family size bag has enough; if you freeze them ahead of time they are muc easier to wrap and handle

preheat to 350

in one bowl:

1 box yellow cake mix

2 eggs

1 cup pb

8 tbps butter, softened

mix until blended

in another bowl:

1 can sweetened condensed milk

6oz choc chips

2 tbsp. butter (ie rest of the stick)

melt and mix (microwave for 1 min then stir)

grease 9x13 pan

press about 2/3 of the pb mix into the pan evenly across the bottom

pour the choc chip/milk mix over it and tilt pan to spread evenly

crumble rest of pb mix over the top

bake at 350 for 30-35 min

while baking, unwrap reeses cups, when the pan comes out the oven, press them into the pan in a 7x5 grid - I find it’s easiest to put one in the center, then the corners, then rest of edges, that makes for even distribution"

That's from a friend who makes them all the time. I tried for the first time this past weekend and was pretty pleased with the results.
