My roller coaster continues ... Update #3 - NEW Update on Sept 16

for the ones of you that have followed me through these crazy ups and downs in the past couple weeks, I thank you for all of your positive vibes and support! I am so happy I have this forum to talk to people On the same boat and share experiences. Today I went back for a follow-up ultrasound at seven weeks 2 days. The last ultrasound was 10 days ago when I was five weeks six days and all We saw was just stational sack measuring five weeks two days and with a yolk sac but no embryo. This, as you may remember, followed A very crazy beta pattern that started very slow and then picked up. So today I got in and she did and abdominal ultrasound first. Immediately we could see an embryo with a heartbeat!!! The joy and relief we felt cannot be described!!!! Then this was followed by an intravaginal ultrasound. We once again saw a beautiful embryo measuring seven weeks three days (in fact one day ahead)with a heart rate of 143 bpm!!!! Life was good!!! Then, we learned that the gestational sack did not grow as much as It should have for the size of the baby. The gestational sack is only measuring six weeks two days. Dr. told us that it's 50-50. She says in her experience she has seen pregnancies like this go on perfectly and others that have gone on to miscarry. The scientific literature is not favorable but taken into account my age, the embryo size and the heartbeat, it improves our odds a bit. But we are still on the fence. Since we did IVF, the doctor discharged us from the fertility clinic and referred me to obstetrician. She suggested a repeat ultrasound at week 11 which is 5 weeks from now and I don't know if I can wait that long!!!! So while in one minute we were over the moon with happiness, the next minute we were covered in doubts again. I will continue to be as optimistic as I can. Our odds were bad from day one and I refuse to give up hope now , knowing that there is a strong baby with a healthy heartbeat in my belly!!! NEW UPDATE Sep 16: I had a new ultrasound today, almost a month after the last one.

Everything is looking great now! I am 11 weeks, baby is measuring 11w 2 d, heart rate was 163 bpm, NT was normal at 1mm, and baby was punching and swimming, and put up quite a show for us! So in love!

So despite the very rocky slow start, things appear to be back on track now. I have no idea what made my HCG so low and slow to begin with, but it goes to show that HCG doesn't tell 100% of the story. The gestational sac appears appropriate for the baby's size now, despite the results from week 7. What I have learned is that google is dangerous and always makes you expect the worse; and that human bodies don't always behave like the book says!
