feeling sick- want to go home

I'm just wondering if people have gone home from work for not feeling well in pregnancy. I was about 6 weeks when I started this job so I'm still very new and they do know I[m pregnant and they were fine about it- I didn't feel any negativity. I'm hourly so the company isn't "out" any money if I were to leave and I would just take unpaid time. I know not feeling well is a legitimate reason to want to go home, but I know there are going to be many many days I don't feel well and I'm worried about opening that can of worms.

Re: feeling sick- want to go home

  • I called out sick one day in my first trimester because I had a HORRIBLE migraine and couldn't conceive of even showering and getting ready much less driving to work and being at all productive. There were many more days in the first trimester that I was throwing up but decided to tough it out knowing I'd likely feel better as the day went on. I still wake up sometimes and fantasize about calling out sick but haven't done it. My mindset is that I'd rather save my days off (I'm salary so only have so many paid days off) for if/when I'm REALLY sick or for my maternity leave if I decide to return to work after the baby is born. However, I will say that an additional factor for me is that I feel really guilty when I call out because I know my coworkers have to cover for me and we're all slammed, so it really ruins their day if I'm not here. So I guess I'd say just weigh your options and if you truly feel awful and can afford a day with no pay, then go home and don't feel bad about it.

  • I've personally always been of the "as long as you are physically able to do your work, aren't contagious and don't need to go to the ER, your butt had better be at work" mentality. Plus I know I want to take as much time as possible for maternity leave and have to use whatever accrued time I have for it. I'd rather suck it up now and use it when I really need it later
