I'm participating in a research study through the local university on diet and exercise in pregnancy and as much as I know it would be healthier for me... I really hope I get put in the control group and don't have to stop being lazy. I guess I'll find out on Monday.

That's awesome! Do you get paid for it?
Yup, it'll be close to $250 at the end of the study. $50/set of questionairees and data collection with a bonus $15 if you only have the monitors off a certain amount of time on their activity collection days. It'll probably be close to minimum wage with the required time even as the control group (no dietitian or extra exercise) but I graduated in the sciences and know how hard it can be to get research participants, so it's worth it.

@minorfall27 need details lol! How did you find out and how did you process it all?

I figured details would be needed, haha.  It's a pretty interesting situation.  And one I'm (now) happy to talk about, if anything, so that just more people are aware that...it does happen.  And not to...dumb people.  ((That's a very common comment I've heard.  "HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE!?"))

Anyway.  I found out because I thought I was gaining a lot of weight.  When I was trying to lose it.  Going on runs, etc.  And still, just kept "gaining".  Thankfully, we don't have a scale, because up until the 26 week mark, I had just gained FIVE POUNDS.  And five pounds in 26 weeks (when you're not pregnant) means that you just need to cut back on the tacos, you know?  But, it was five pounds all right at my midsection, so I noticed.  Took a pregnancy test, since it had been a while since I'd taken one.  I've had a "spotty" (both literally and figuratively) cycle for a long, long time, thanks to Micronor.  Before being pregnant, I'd gone more than 6 months without a period.  It's common for your cycle to go away on Micronor, as mine did.  I got pregnant with Madeline in...September?  I remember spotting as late as November (Thanksgiving).  Called it a "period" and moved on.  Took the test in February, which came back *super* positive, obviously.  Scheduled an OB appointment, had an ultrasound, and there she was!  In all her 26-week glory!

I was just shocked and overwhelmed, really.  I wouldn't get to "happy" for a few weeks to be completely honest.  I felt like I had failed this kid already by not knowing.  Lots of different emotions.  They asked if we wanted to know the sex, as this would be our one chance to find out.  And I just laughed because...we had *never* talked about if we wanted to know the sex of our child before the birth!  My husband said, "Sure, why not?"

Obviously, it took some adjustment.  I mean, normally, from the time you decide, "Let's have a baby!" to...baby, there's AT LEAST typically 9+ months.  We had 3.

My husband and I were always going to be parents.  2-3 kids, most likely.  Working on #2 now.  Were we totally, mentally and emotionally ready to become parents right then and there?  No.  Not really.  But I doubt anyone ever *really* is.  You don't "get" what it means to be a parent...until you really, really do.

Feel free to ask any questions.  I'm an open book.  :)

ETA:  I don't know enough about bump.com formatting to fix the quoting on this.  But there's a bit of my story.
  • Thanks for sharing @minorfall27! I can't imagine going from you're pregnant to baby in 3 months! My friend did something similar with twins and that was crazy enough (didn't know twins until the anatomy scan at l20 weeks, born at 32ish weeks).

  • Funny story, the other day my husband and I were at a shopping center with a full lot. When we finally found a spot there was a shopping cart in it because people are lazy. Well, my husband is even lazier- he just slowly drove in and pushed the cart into the tree/divider with his bumper. Other people looked at him like he was a monster, he just shrugged it off because "it's my POS - I do what I want!"
  • Just tried on my first pair of maternity jeans - where have these been all my life??? So amazingly comfortable!

  • Mmm now I'm craving cookies!
  • My husband is gone for a few days but I had a roast I needed to cook, so I cooked it in the crockpot for my dinner and now I can't eat it because the smell is making me puke.
  • Anyone dislike their husband right now? I feel so bad. I'm sure it's just the hormones, and the never ending nausea... but he annoys me so bad. I've been pretty snappy with him lately. All of his "jokes" annoy me, and honestly along with everything he does. I'm so ready to be me again!!

I have had this issue with BF. It all came to a head on Sunday and followed through Tuesday. Hormones are a bitch. Also, I've been under "Nothing in the vagina" (hahaha) orders from my Dr for the last few weeks. We hadn't had sex since Labor day. We are past that now thank goodness.

  • Have things on the board been super boring lately, or is it just that I don't have enough time to sift through all the symptoms crap and find the actual good posts?

  • I just left the house to pick up my daughter from the high school, the marching band has been at an away football game… which sucks because I'm tarrrrrd. But hey, it actually feels cool outside! My weather app says 66°.... guess we are finally starting to get some fall temperatures here in Texas!

That is cute! I bought my baby's first toy this week too: a Simba from the Disney Store! I'm so excited.

@RoseShadow873  I got Simba as a gift when I was pregnant with my son who just turned five on the 5th.  He still sleeps with Simba every night next to him.

Horray for baby's first toys! I made my husband order a stuffed giraffe with a music box inside from amazon last week! Its adorable, but my emotions got the best of me when i played the lullaby the first time... hello waterworks!
  • The only thing that's making me want to get out of bed today is the fact that there's left over pizza in the fridge . So tired !
  • I'm eating leftover pizza right now! Haha! :) Lazy Sunday!
  • Leftover pizza sounds delicious. I'm craving Jimmy Johns. I don't usually even LIKE Jimmy Johns. My sweet husband patiently took my order and is out getting a roast beef slim for me. It just sounds so good right now!
  • I JUST ordered Jimmy Johns to be delivered my house right before I read this @ladylolly89! Turkey Tom sandwich and big pickle, get in my belly!
  • So funny! I never imagined that I'd crave sandwiches, but I certainly have been. Yum! We just got a Jimmy Johns in my town, right next to my work. It's dangerous!
  • I wanted Jimmy Johns too even though I don't even think it's that good. But I'm trying to resist on account of all the "pregnant people shouldn't eat deli meats" stuff out there.

That's what I always thought too, but my OB said that deli meat is fine as long as it's used by the expiration date. If it's from a fast food restaurant, it's best to go at a busy time of day when meat will not have been sitting out very long. She also mentioned that prepackaged sandwich meats are not considered safe, so it needs to be from an actual deli counter or restaurant. :)

My OB said the opposite about prepackaged and that it's safer than a deli counter unless it's shaved in front of you because of the speed the packaging process. Honestly, I'm not worried about lysteria anyway, but it may be worth a conversation.

  • If I followed every piece of "pregnant women shouldn't.." advice out there, I could never actually leave my house. That being said, after weeks of MS and finally feeling like I can eat real food - I'll pick and choose my battles.. my turkey sandwich was phenomenal!
  • @NachosAndPeaches I used to sew & sell on ebay and from my own website years ago... Baby & little girl things mostly. I haven't sewn much in recent years, but I'm definitely psyching myself up to start a project or two once we find out the sex of our baby. Attached is a photo of an unfinished wall hanging I unearthed the other day... Hand appliqué and embroidery, but machine pieced. It was supposed to be a gift for a little boy who is about 9 years old now I think. lol
  • My first pregnancy I was cray about no deli meat. This time not so much. I have eaten several sandwiches. If it's the ONLY thing in the world that I want, I"m going for it!

  • I've had Jimmy John twice this week and feel great about it. The fact that I can order it and it be at my door in 10 minutes is just too enticing for my "I must eat NOW" pregnant self.
  • Think it's time to start the HDBD thread this Wednesday? Some people must have legit bumbs by now.
  • edited September 2015
I personally won't be posting bump pics until I'm AT LEAST 15 weeks (and it's my second pregnancy), but I know some people are maybe 13ish weeks now? They MIGHT be showing if they're ST+ moms? I think it's mostly still bloat though.
