I have a super minor kidney deformity that I always forget about, so that's probably why I thinking the last ultrasound tech said it was standard procedure but probably just for that situation.
The lady you talked to is an idiot. The "gender" scan is the anatomy scan. They don't ever specifically do an ultrasound to find out the sex unless it's a specialty ultrasound boutique.
@maluevano I know where that's at. I have tons of family in corona. I use to always go to the swap meet in chino. I do love the area as well. @SoSirius perris is right in between where I'm at and March . But I miss temecula/murrieta area. It's way too hot over here. Ugh lol.
In Ontario we have a 12 week IPS optional u/s and blood work (for the purpose of genetic counselling) and an 18-20 week anatomy scan (where you can find out the sex of the baby if you wish too). I was also offered a dating u/s since my AF is irregular. Besides that, you have the option of boutique ultrasounds (out of pocket).
Have you had your anatomy scan yet @inomniaparatus ? Because it's standard procedure. They might not have told you they were looking, it's also a total different scan then whatever scans you've been having.
Had my scan today and she explained every single thing she looked at- I know for a fact she didn't look at my kidneys.
Same here, she told me everything she was checking and didn't check my kidneys. Also they said I didn't need a full bladder. She actually asked me if I needed to use the restroom before the scan. I think it depends on where you go. As far as the anatomy scan goes, like everyone else has said, I would get clarification from your doctor and either request one or try to find another place that will do one. That's the most important scan in the pregnancy if you don't do the other testing!
@SoSirius oh really, what city? I grew up in murrieta but currently moved to hemet to be closer to my husbands base. Not sure if you heard of March in Moreno Valley.
My husbands family lives there! They're spread across temecula, murrieta, and Winchester. Personally, I grew up in Northern California, so I hate it down there, but that's where we are moving for good. We will hopefully get there right when our baby starts school so no moving schools at least.
Anatomy scans are standard and in a lot of cases the only ultrasounds women recieve through pregnancy. I'm not sure why they always made you drink a lot of water and hold your urine for so long? At 20wks the baby is plenty big enough to get all the measurments without a full bladder. Maybe they are using much older machines where you go? I'm not sure why they are giving you inaccurate information, maybe the receptionist is just misinformed?

It's interesting how different each office is. At the beginning of every appointment my dr's office, we check in and then go straight to the bathroom to pee in a cup.
We had our A/S on Monday and the tech didn't tell us everything she was looking at unless it wasn't obvious and part of baby
Ours is similar. If you're getting an ultrasound, you do that first. Then you go down the hall to the actual doctor's office and pee in a cup. Then they check your vitals and have the doctor come in. I always forget that I need to pee when I get there and go right before
With all my pregnancies, I was told to have a full bladder with every ultrasound they did. I never understood it but it was torture. I lost count how many times I almost peed myself from them pressing down on my tummy. I have my A/S on the 29th and they've told me to drink one full cup of water 15 minutes before my appointment. All I can think is that they are using older machines or its to help get the baby up to see a clearer picture. I thought the A/S was the same thing as the gender scan. I think some offices use different terminology, maybe?
