Thoughts on Tate

Thoughts on the name Tate William? Is Tate "official enough"? Would Tatum be a better full name?

Re: Thoughts on Tate

  • I think Tate is fine as a stand alone name. It's not particularly my style, but I definitely wouldn't side eye it either

  • Yes! I was thinking it reminds me of Taint ^#(^
  • I hear taint as well. Thought this the whole time watching American Horror Story.
  • What about Trent? or Troy?

  • Literally never thought about it sounding like taint... Thanks for the heads up!

  • It's not horrible, but not a name I would ever choose. I don't think it's nicknamey. I definitely wouldn't use Tatum instead. I've only known girl Tatums.
  • I prefer Tatum.

Can you describe what it is about the name that you like? That way - if you do want some suggestions -  we could help come up with some similar but alternative options! For example, if you like the "ate" sound, there's always Nate, with the option of either Nathan or Nathaniel as a formal name if you want one. If it's specifically the "ay" sound, you might like something along the lines of Braden, Grady, Baylor...

Or is it the single syllable? Are you really drawn to names that start with T or do you like others too?

  • First thought is tater tots. Not a fan of the name.

  • I really like Tate and I think it works well as a stand alone name. Tatum is too Channing for me.

I love that Tate is cute, easy to say and pronounce but not super popular. I like names that are strong, love Irish names, love names that are a little less traditional. Middle name is definitely William unless we use it as a first name.

    Other names I like:
    Declan
    Finn
    Connor
    Colin
    Weston
    Chase
    Duncan
    Blake
    Brennan
    Graham
    Davis
    Miles
    Asher
    Clayton

Favorite GP Name that DH Vetoed: Gus

I think my favorites of the bunch you listed are Declan and Graham, but Asher, Clayton, Brennan, Blake, Chase and Weston are all up there too! Were all of the names on this list vetoed by your SO, or do they just not feel quite right yet?
