Anyone going to stockpile diapers?

With DS we had a diaper party which got us through at least four months without having to buy diapers, which was wonderful. With this baby we most likely will not have another party so I'm thinking of starting our own stockpile. DS did not have any problems with different brand diapers but every baby is different!
Very back and forth if it's a good idea to start a stockpile or not.. Thoughts?

  • Yes, I plan to do a stockpile on diapers and wipes. Using coupons, following coupon sites and getting a deal on diapers is a good idea. :)

  • I have a fairly sizable cloth diaper stash leftover from DS, so I've started to add a few more things to that.

  • I am not going to actually stock up on diapers, but we are saving $25 a week to go towards baby supplies we will need.
  • Not stocking up on diapers, but we are putting money away every month instead. I figure people will probably be buying us diapers since it's our first. The money can be used for anything else we need.
  • Other then buying a box of size 1s we aren't going to stockpile. #1 - my DD was 10lbs 1oz and more or less skipped newborn diapers, #2 - DD has super sensitive skin and can only use Pampers. Our luck, the next baby will only be able to wear Huggies lol.

Nope, not worth it, IMO. Babies grow out of diaper sizes so fast in the early months so there's no doubt I'd end up with tons of leftovers in each size. I'm an Amazon Mom member and use Subscribe and Save to get monthly deliveries. It's a substantial discount and super easy to move up a delivery date if I need to or change the size when necessary. Saves on space, too. Boxes of diapers are bulky!
Exactly this. The only amount of stockpiling I'll do is to set up my subscription for size 1 diapers to give me 1 box before May.  There are/were some sizes that DS was in for a while (like size 4) and others he blew right through within a month. I don't want to mess around with exchanging diaper sizes.
  • @jbeuerle I love Target brand too!! I'll be doing the same thing!

  • Yup. I'm a couponer so starting 2nd tri I will start looking for diaper deals. My doc highly doubts I'll ever have big babies (my 3.5yr old isn't even 30lbs yet) so I have no real concerns. Plus, I have lots of friends having babies so if we have too many if a size, they will be given to friends.

  • If we decide to do cloth yes. But not really if we go with disposable. Too hard to predict which diaper will fit best and how long they will be in each size.
  • I am also going to cloth diaper for awhile. I'm going to try and make it till the baby starts solids, and then i'll most likely switch to disposables. I prefer target brand or Luvs, but I won't stock pile.

Adding....we cloth diapered part time with DD and plan to do that again. I already have all I need for that. So we will just need disposables for the first few weeks, night time, and for when we aren't home. We tried to do CD full time but it just didn't work well for our lifestyle.

  • I stockpiled with my son and did end up with extra in each size.

I'll probably buy one large case each of sizes NB - 4 if I can get a few good deals to have on hand.  I'll definitely stockpile wipes.

When I was in my last trimester last time, I went through a crazy nesting phase and stockpiled ALL of the consumer goods - detergent, paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap, Reynolds wrap, bottled water, paper plates etc.  It was almost comical.  On one hand it was nice to not have to worry about anything, on the other hand I felt a little cooped up with the newborn that I would have welcomed an excuse to roam around Target!

  • I am halfway tempted to, but then I'm scared that the diapers we used for DD (Pampers) wouldn't fit right on LO#2. So, I think I'll wait. :-\

  • We stockpiled for both of our kids and it was one of the best decisions we ever made. Just a bit of advice if you decide to do it: tape your receipt to the unopened boxes/packages so you can trade them out for other sizes if your baby grows out of them before you use them. Most retailers will exchange them without a receipt, but others aren't always so accommodating. Having the receipt made a huge difference! We definitely plan on doing this again - but won't start until I'm at least 12-13 weeks.

  • Nope. Not enough storage space, and who knows what size babes will actually be once born. I don't want to waste money. We belong to BJs though, and they ALWAYS have diaper coupons, so atleast I know we can get them on the cheap when they are needed.

  • Can someone teach me how to coupon? I have no idea where to find the good ones!

We didn't have to buy diapers until DD was over 6 months I believe. We never had a problem exchanging any of the sizes.
  • @mlbohannon1120 Would they take them back if past the expiration date?

  • @JessicaB0627 I print all my coupons from coupons.com and occasionally find some in the newspaper inserts. I learned by following different CVS couponing groups on Facebook! It's super easy once you get the hang of it. I just bought (3) packs of Huggies diapers at CVS for $10.97!

  • No because it took quite a bit of trial and error to find what brand and type worked best for DS. Many diapers ended up donated (which was fine) but I would rather wait and see. We did so much advanced prep when I didn't even quite know what we needed- this time we are more chill and will do things one step at a time.

  • We plan I cloth diapering, so will definitely be stocking up. We'll probably wait until we find out the sex in case we want any gender specific ones, not that it matters...

  • We LOVE Amazon Mom and starting at week 12 every paycheck we got we both ordered a box of diapers (I'm a Pampers Swaddlers snob). We also added a box of wipes with them too. Usually it's around $35-40 for a box of 200+ diapers. We plan to do the same thing with this one bc we didn't buy diapers once DD was here until she was almost 1. The wipes run around $15 for 8-900.

I hope that they will but when I read this I had to tell you...I felt the same way with DD. I had 40+ people at my shower and only got 1 (!!!) box of diapers and no wipes.

DD is in diapers right now (hoping to potty train within the next 4 months) & we use target brand diapers, so if target has another buy two large boxes and get a free $20 gift card like they did 3 weeks ago I'll probably stock up a little bit, because who doesn't love free target gift cards!?

This! I have a closet full of 4's and 5's for DS, I'll stick up for this LO if that sale comes around again.

  • Can't say enough about how awesome cloth diapers are! My son is using them now but we'll be able to pass them down to this baby, so no need to stockpile anything. ;)

  • Another vote for cloth! We started when DS was 1 week old and at 11.5 months we are still going strong! I've even used them out of town when we have in unit access to washing machines. Since DD will only be 19 months when this baby joins us I will probably get some more (I'm a sucker for cute prints!) but we have our newborn stash from the early days that should get us through next summer. Side note...it's sad the cloth diaper board is such a dead zone :(

  • We definitely will stock pile again because as long as you don't open them you can always exchange them for other brands or sizes even without the receipt! We buy at Sams so a couple of large boxes of each size work well for us. Out last baby we didn't buy a single diaper till she was 6 mos old from what we got at our diaper party.

  • I don't think I'm going to. All of the mommy veterans in my life have warned me against it! They say that babies are different and some brands just don't fit right. Even siblings- a cousin said her first wore pampers and so she stocked up for her second but wasted a ton because she leaked through them all- had to switch to huggies for the right fit!
  • When I use to stockpile diapers for my daughter, it was always a great to have it because they make great baby shower gifts too. I always feel like someone is pregnant every month. Haha.

  • We have a stash of cloth diapers from my son so we should be all set. We weren't super successful with the pre-folds or covers, but have a few pockets that I think will work. Also, I have been practicing my CDing on random babies at church (from the nursery) and am somehow 1000% better than I was with my son (he was a teeny tiny preemie so that may have made things a little trickier).

  • I want to cloth diaper but my hubby has a very high gag reflex and has said if we do cloth I have to do all the diaper changes. *sigh* Maybe I can change his mind

If my husband told me I had to change all the diapers I would tell him to get a grip. Mine also has a high gag reflex, and I've watched him puke changing a diaper before...I still told him he better get used to it.
