Re: Anyone else having a shit is getting real moment?!?

  • Yup so I had my shower and I got great gifts however I got no outfits.. 30 people came to the shower and I got no clothes.. I put off buying clothes because of my shower.. I got lots of diapers and wipes and I feel like a damn cry baby because I have been putting off buying clothes because I thought I would get some at my shower today.. However I did get some great gifts and I'm very grateful that I got anything at all and I have not complained to anybody else just to my husband and my best friend who was shocked about me not getting clothes for the baby.. I got lots of everything else including 4 bouncers.. I guess I'm more shocked then anything.. How in the world out of so many people does somebody not get one outfit or onesie?!?!?!? And I just realized this makes me sound ungrateful.. I promise I'm very happy with what I received I'm just in shock that out of everything there wasn't an outfit...

I was expecting the same and only ended up with one onesie!

I don't think you sound ungrateful, just surprised.  Clothes are really popular shower gifts, so I would definitely be surprised if thirty people came to a shower and not a single one brought clothes.  On the bright side, though, you don't have to worry about exchanging clothes and you can build a wardrobe you 100% love for your LO.

Good point and I didn't want to sound ungrateful because I'm very thankful for what I received and I always buy clothes when I go to baby showers and when I go to showers clothes and diapers are the one thing I see the mom to be get a lot of and out of all those people I got lots of diapers and wipes which I will need but no clothes and that just seems odd to me!

Isn't it weird though!! I remember my friends shower last year and she got so many outfits and clothes!!! And I will say my brother in absolutely hilarious and took a bow off of one of the presents and put it in his hair and put a diaper the best he could on his head.. He did it at the beginning of the shower and wore it all the way till the end lol it was so funny lol
  • 7 weeks to go for me! So busy this month with my 4 year Olds birthday and seprate family party and him starting pre school that I haven't done a thing. No bags packed no car seat dug out :/
  • Beware of TMI to follow: My shit got real moment was when my friend asked me if I could see my lady parts anymore. I never thought of that before... So I decided to take a peek the next time I took a shower. Nope. Can't see anything past this big round belly LOL
  • 7 weeks from this past Friday til C section date. My desire to go to work gets less and less. I feel like my tail is dragging the ground and I know I have a lot left to do. I have to get through a week visit from the in-laws and throwing my turning 5 year old a good party so she doesn't feel left out. I enjoy growing my little human but IR'm ready for him to vacate too.
  • I love this thread! I'm pg with baby #3 and have just been busy with life (I guess?!??)the day I opened my app and it was 9weeks __days I had a bit of a fit.... Single digits!! Our 3yo was still sleeping in the crib (as a double bed), still haven't bought a crib mattress, all of a sudden realize kids, hub & I and DOGS all need go bags WHOA! Yes, shit just got REAL in this house

    Oh. My. God.

I'm in single digits. I only have nine weeks left - if that. I hadn't even thought of that angle yet.

Eep. Okay, time to go freak out now.

Bouncers are expensive, dude. I would return three of the four bouncers and buy clothes that are my style. Diapers and wipes are honestly the most practical and useful shower gift I can think of!

See and that's why it makes me feel ungrateful that I'm whining about not getting clothes when people got me bouncers!! I did get lots of diapers and wipes that I'm very thankful for but when I get things for people I always get a couple of outfits or a pack of diapers and wipes with a big item like a bouncer or one of my friend I bought her a boppy pillow but I usually give people Atleast one outfit so it just shocked me! A few people that couldn't come want to meet me for food (I definitely won't refuse food!!) and give me a couple things because they feel bad that they couldn't make it.. But now I get to drag my husband to go buy baby clothes!!!!!!

    Edit because words suck..
  • Yupp.. I'm starting to panic... 8w 3d to go, and the nursery furniture isnt even purchased yet! We still haven't narrowed down names yet either. No hospital bag or pre-registration done. So much to do around the house to prepare, and I can't even imagine how much I have to clean up at work before mat leave begins in 7 weeks.
We're having a baby shower next weekend, which I think is adding to the reality of how close we really are to meeting our baby!
  • Today was my holy shit moment. I walked out the door this morning and it was chilly (low 70's!) Fall is here and my baby will be here soon too. I've got less than 8 weeks to go. I have a crib, swing, and a few outfits. My shower/party/last hurrah is a month away and I've been asked not to buy baby stuff before them. I'm freaking out a little about a lack of a car seat just in case there's an emergency.
I'm pretty much in the same boat as far as baby stuff goes, but if my shower was a month away I'd probably buy a car seat now just in case. Mine is this weekend, but if we don't receive one (which is likely because we registered for a pricey travel system) we're buying one as soon as we leave the shower. I'm too paranoid to be without one any longer!

I have a friend at work who has offered to lend me an extra she has in case of an emergency. A group of friends has specifically said they wanted to get the travel system I registered for so I feel odd buying it myself and returning it in a few weeks. If I want sure it was coming, I'd buy it a few weeks ago.
If there's something strange underneath the hood.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  If there's something weird and it don't look good.  Who you gonna call?  Your Doctor.  Immediately.  If it's new, painful, and possibly pregnancy related get your ass off the internet and call your doctor.  It's for your health and your child's.

  • I ordered the furniture at the 20 week mark, but it's back-ordered until week 36!!!  I've ordered my travel system, but Graco delivered the wrong product so no stroller or car seat yet either.  :-O Deep breaths...

  • Amazon prime and I are best friends now. 33 weeks today and I just ordered the mattress, but it will be here Wednesday. If he comes 2 weeks early like DS1, I have 5 weeks. But after moving this weekend, I'm far less concerned about the nursery and way more worried about getting the rest of the house unpacked.

I hit single digits today! 9 weeks 4 days. The room is now painted and the carpet is torn up. New flooring going in sometime this week or next weekend. Crib and dresser and in my DR.

I still have my oh shit days but at least his room is almost done. Even though in the back of my head I know it won't matter anyways because he will be in our room for a while.

Still having a daily freak out about pushing a watermelon out of a lemon! Why can't we just FFWD past that part and just put him in my arms... like the movie Click! Lol
  • We had my first shower this weekend and I received a lot of lovely things... But between the shower, having to drive 3.5 hours at night by myself (DH and I bought a car off my parents so had to drive home separately), a 4 hour childbirth prep class yesterday, and having a cold since Wednesday, I'm so exhausted I can't even function. I'm about to take my second nap of the day!

It's driving me nuts having stuff from the shower just sitting in our living room/entryway, but I physically can't put it away because I'm too tired. :(( I need that nesting kick in the pants now!
  • Yes!!!! Terrified and excited! There is a crib in my house!!!! I can't believe it went as fast as it did.

8 weeks to go! MIL told me not to buy anything else since she and her sisters wanted a second shower but SCREW HER, I'm going shopping!

I bought a pack n' play, some more clothes and some just in case items--pacifiers, a set of bibs. I held off on diapers and formula though. The JC Penny inside my local mall was having a huge sale and I sort of went a bit nuts. There was also a Sephora in that mall so I treated myself just a bit. Makes me feel normal again to do the things I used to do when I had not a care in the world. Moving into my new apartment in a few weeks---it's totally crappy but it has a spare room of sorts I can make into a nursery and then I will inspect what else I could throw together for a nursery. Just a few more things to sort out, namely carseats. It confuses the hell out of me how there can be a thirty dollar and a three hundred dollar carseat in the same store. And of course getting an actual car but you know, one step at a time.

Slowly but surely getting it together, as I am sure we all will.

    8 weeks.

Glad to hear you are getting stuff together for your baby.. I would look at consignment stores to find some nice stuff cheap.. I got a $200 pack n play for $75 at a consignment sale.. Just a thought! I'm also a Mary Kay consultant so I occasionally spoil myself with different Mary Kay stuff.. as a consultant I can order a sports chair that says Mary Kay on it.. I also have a blanket too lol Sometimes spoiling yourself is ok! Just make sure you get enough baby stuff first since there isn't much time left..

Glad you are getting an apartment and baby things together. Maybe check with your local firestation and see if there are any sort of carseat programs in your area. Mine recently had one and I got a free carseat, it is actually a pretty nice one! Made by babytrend, a $60carseat. It's just going to be sitting around our house until we get another car next year. It is also good to treat yourself while you can -you never know what sort of expenses you will have when baby is here. Good luck.

  • The stuff was like over 70% off. That's why I bought it because it was super cheap. I also stated a while ago that I ordered some parenting books from amazon, I am also enrolled in parenting classes and counseling. Maybe you missed those posts. I'm self absorbed because I bought some twelve dollar lipstick from Sephora? I was only in the mall to shop for the baby in the first place. I don't know anything about consignment stores or whatever, this is what I know, this is where I have always shopped and as I said, I found a fantastic sale.

The apartment I've been looking for since I left home, I haven't just been sitting on my ass. I finally found one I can afford. It's crappy. I'm not moving into the Ritz and I'm going to need to find a big girl job ASAP to keep that apartment long term. I'm still working out the details of that, IMO but the plan is (hopefully) to be moving out of here soon. And no, I don't find enjoyment in it. I'm really tired of defending myself all the time. I'm really tired of living under a microscope. I'm tired of being lit into every time I open my mouth. I'm tired of every goddamn thread devolving into pointing out all the ways in which I suck, even when I have no intention of doing anything but participating like everyone else in the community.

My life has been all but destroyed/remodeled by this pregnancy and I'm doing the best I can, frankly. I'm trying to take all the wonderful advice I've been given and move forward.

I am many things: naive, perhaps oblivious, sheltered, etc. But I am not selfish.

  • Ugh, 10 weeks left and I have literally nothing ready.  But, now that the house is bought (finally!!!!!!) I can finally get the nursery set up.  I mean, we still have to move our stuff, but now I can finally order the crib and have it shipped to the new house, without it sitting in the middle of my apartment living room (I was sorely tempted to do that more than once!)  At this point our hospital bag might just be the old cosmetics bag I keep chargers in + me sending DH home to fetch things as necessary, b/c I have so much to get done before I'll even get to that part of my to-do list!

God love DH. He helped me open packaging on everything we're for sure keeping from the shower and sort it out. I was able to put most items away so at least I feel like I did something. Although as I'm typing this I just remembered that I had a load of laundry going that's been done for a long time now. Whoops.
  • I just spent a week in the hospital because of stupid gallbladder. The Dr told me NO MORE WORK UNTIL BABY COMES. Yay... Kind of. She also told me that we are looking at inducing between 36-38wks so we can get this gallbladder out. Oh crap! That took an awful lot of time away for baby prep.

I was doing just fine with the 7ish weeks I had left. Now, we're looking at having 3-5wks. Again, oh crap!

  • Man, I just this weekend got the nesting bug with 10 weeks left, though it still feels like forever away. I finally started doing some stuff in the nursery (sewed curtains and re-upholstered the glider we got as a hand-me-down), cleaned the whole house today (needed it real bad), and started canning a bunch of summer veggies and planning freezer meals.

While I was gone doing all those things, looks like a lot of sh*t went down here--drama on both D15 (where I lurk a lot--being due at the end of November and all) and N15, @dogsombrero got banned??? I thought we were past all this...
  • ^^this. What did we miss? I can't imagine who could have reported her...
  • Completely freaking out!! I've got 11 weeks left, but then I started thinking how if I have him when i had DD at 37 weeks, that leaves me with 8 weeks...single digits!!! I totally do not have enough time for this!! still haven't painted the nursery, and I still don't have any wipes, a car seat, bath tub, pack n play, and the list goes on. I definitely thought I had more time for all this, but apparently, I've got to get things moving!
  • For me it finally sinked in today. I had to go take my paper work to the hospital to get register. As soon as I got there I almost had a panic attack I will be in labor in about 9 weeks :-S
  • Yes, for sure. Although, I am quite over being pregnant and can't wait to meet this little guy already. This has been my easiest pregnancy yet, but I'm ready to get my body back and feel like a normal human being again. I have a repeat csection scheduled at 39 weeks on Oct 29th so I now only have a little over a month left!

  • Speaking of feeling normal again and not pregnant, I am more than ready to be done. Yesterday I woke up and forgot I was pregnant actually. She must of been sitting differently because I didn't notice my belly! It was a nice change.
