GTKY Things you miss the most.

I was driving with DH today and was thinking about all the things I have had to give up or put on hold sense having kids. so I thought it would be fun to hear about all the other sacrifices you guys have made or foresee making for FTMs on your road to become/ becoming a parent. for me the most recently has been giving up my dream teaching job (for now) to be able to stay at home with DS and soon to be. and also I love hiking and the outdoors but it has been two years now sense I have been to my favorite hiking spots... sigh but I know I will get back to the mountains... someday....

  • Drinking. Now that lil bit is weaned, I can finally drink! Oh, wait... It also means putting my career plans on hold, which means our financial plans are delayed are delayed by a year. But in the grand scheme of things, it's only a year. Also, I can get blitzed in 2017. :) Maybe. Lol!

  • At the moment all I want is a Margarita! But in all seriousness, I had to put my school on hold taking less classes for the next two semesters which will have me graduating in a year instead of sooner. But like you said.... It's only a year *sigh* I'm just ready to be done with school. All in time though ladies! This is the best thing to make a sacrifice for :)

  • Miss sleep, but otherwise I never cared for alcohol and we have found ways to still do things we love, we there it's involving lo, or finding a babysitter. Otherwise than the sleep, I agree that life has only gotten better.
  • I'm going to echo everyone else, sleep is my most missed thing since I've become a parent. And even then it's not too bad because I wasn't much of a sleeper to begin with. The only other thing I miss is my spotless house but now I look around and know its a little messier than I would like because I have an adorable tiny human that loves to play and that I would rather spend time with than cleaning. We weren't big travelers, didn't go out much (but if we wanted to there is always a babysitter), I love a glass of wine at night but I will only be without it for a few months so whatevs; life is better no matter what I "can't do" and it will only last for a few short years.

March '16 February Siggy challenge- After Pregnancy hopes

  • If pregnancy is included in this, then I also miss laying comfortably on my back and eating whatever food I feel like. But again, hopefully I will be back to eating properly soon and before we know it, pregnancy will be over and we will all have new little babies! Omg! I am soooo looking forward to seeing everyone's babies! Sorry, "baby lust" just hit me (that's what it is called right)

    Then eat the sushi?
  • @smushi since it's on most of the no-no lists I've been avoiding it. But who am I kidding... I eat cold cuts all the time. Pass the spicy salmon roll :D

Raw fish is on the no no lists.  If you're worried, you can always have any of the cooked sushi rolls.  There are literally tons to choose from.

@kynbar5 oh don't get me wrong wasn't meant to be a complaining thread I would not trade my life before kids for anything I had or did or planned to do. its just that parenthood is full of sacrifices and its so amazing how such a tiny human being can inspire us to give up so much I view everything everyone gives up not as a regret but as a beautiful amazing act of selfless pure love. even if its just a spicy tuna roll :-) which Ive been craving super bad too. @JessKo08 hang in there. my favorite roll during my last pregnancy was tempura shrimp with avocado cream cheese and a little imitation crab (made from white fish) kept all the ingredients in my fridge so I could make up a roll whenever I wanted to. come to think of it I think I will have to do that today.

  • The number one thing I miss is sleep. My 4yo still wakes me up in the night and is up at 5am excited for the day. I'm sure I'll miss the amount of sleep I'm getting now though once I have a newborn! One day I'll sleep all night again. One day...

  • I miss extended periods of silence. DH asked me what I wanted for mother's day this year, and that's what I told him. A number of hours in a row with no little voices saying "Look! Look, mama! Mama! Ma! Mama, lookit! Look at me! Look! Look! Lookit!" All while I am STARING DIRECTLY AT HER THE ENTIRE TIME. It's crazymaking.
  • Sleeping, reading actual books, and alone time with my husband. I really could go for some cold cuts right now, and some soft cheeses. I also miss coffee. But know that in the end it's worth it!

Otherwise, I feel so lucky to have a beautiful daughter who is letting me experience childhood again and look forward to doing it all again with #2!

@kellygrace2 I still have a cup of coffee every morning and a glass of sweet iced tea durning the day. I've done it with all of my pregnancies and still have healthy babies. :)
ETA- I don't do cold cuts because I just don't like them and am also not a huge cheese fan but I'm lactose intolerant.

  • Did you see the salmonella outbreak attributed to cucumbers?  And my last pregnancy, there was a huge listeria outbreak from peaches.

I don't even worry about cold cuts.  It's the other stuff that it could get on that scares me.
  • I miss wine, extra cups of coffee when I wanted it, having energy, and not being treated like I am suddenly disabled. I really hate how people act like I am going to break if I lift anything "heavy", or if I stand too long, or telling me I have to do "basic chair-side" at me job (I'm a dental assistant, I can no longer do x-rays, work with certain chemicals, work with acrylic, and now I have to wear a mask when disinfecting my operatory). I also miss my skin being clear. Now I break out like a teenager.

there was a listeria nectarine issue with my last pregnancy. I was told by my midwife that prepackaged deli meat is ok its the stuff you get cut in the deli that has the risk because the bacteria can grow on the machine. and as long as the cheese is made with pasteurized milk its safe. I eat deli meat all the time and have goat cheese on my salads. and I have never had to worry about a recall on those foods. its the fresh produce ironically.

    This.
  • 2 things I miss- SLEEP, and QUIET TIME. My kid has the motor mouth that just doesn't stop for anything! The only quiet time I get is my 1/2 hour drive to and from work. And ever since I had her, I have not been able to sleep for crap. I used to be a night owl, sleep in in the morning...now I'm lucky if I can stay awake till 10, and I'm up at 5:30 every day. I was the panicky mom- when my kid didn't wake up every 2 hours I still did to check on her. I kinda ruined sleep for myself lol. It will be ok though- I'm still up every 2 hours anyway so when this baby comes I won't be missing much.

  • I honestly feel like I've been giving up things I love to do like cook and play music just because I've been so tired and sick. I hope as I get my energy back and even after the baby is here that I can take time to do the things I love to do, but even if I don't it's still worth it!
  • I wouldn't change being a mom for the world. All I could think about in spending my day with ds today was how lucky I am. That being said, the pre baby life I wish I had a little more time for would be sleeping, reading, and baking. I still do all of those things, but just not as much as I used to.
  • FTM so now I'm missing beer-I told DH we are packing a Grolsch in the hospital bag. When the LO is here I'll be puttin off graduating school for a year-which means another year before I can start my career. DH is also putting off going back to school until after I finish (though I will just have 4 classes and a work term of 5 weeks to complete and I may do a few classes online during my year off).

YES. Mine is such a chatterbox, it never stops. She talks all the time, to anyone, no stranger danger here! She doesn't really like to have a conversation so much, se just likes TALKING. The girl can monologue with the best of them. If there's no one around to talk to, she talks to herself. She even talks in her sleep! I love her to death, but good lord it's never ending.

I'm always interested in hearing how student mamas are handling pregnancy and new baby in the middle of their studies.

(Content deleted, decided to start a new thread)

    Sorry for the thread hijack.
  • The one thing I miss the most is my coffee! FTM so it's a whole new experience trying to accomplish daily life w/o my caffeine, I basically lived on coffee!
  • I miss having clear skin. Before I became pregnant, I barely ever had a blemish. Now, I break out on my arms. It's gross. Sorry if TMI!

My problem is I don't like the taste of coffee while I'm pregnant. I didn't with my first and again this time. I miss it but don't like it right now if that makes any sense at all! Especially on a day like today where I've been up since 2am with a teething toddler and have to work all day to boot.

  • @kellygrace2 oh yes, the dreaded aversions lol. I had a hard time during my first month or so of not being able to stomach it. Thank God that blew over lol. :)

  • I have a few.  Having a beer or two every once in a while.  And some wine.  Not a huge drinker but there are those days it's just nice to sit down with DH and have a glass to unwind.  I miss more than 2 cups of coffee.  I miss being able to just be selfish on Saturday mornings and sleep in and not have to worry about anyone other than me.  Since this pregnancy is unexpected and so soon after DS2 was born I honestly miss another person not being dependent on my body.  I miss feeling good all the time.  Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade it for the world because I was made to be a mom, but here I am 4 years later and there are still things I miss.

Mine too!  I catch her talking in her sleep!  If I'm napping she walks past DH to come ask ME something he could answer for her!  Ugh lol.  We could've watched the same movie 20 times in a row, and she will still ask me the SAME QUESTIONS about the movie instead of watching and LISTENING to what they are saying!  I can't even get in the shower or go to the bathroom without her following me, to TALK.  And she is ELEVEN! I have been kicking her out every time, but she STILL does it!  and if I'm in the bath, she will just sit on the toilet and talk to me.  She will snap "Your'e not even listening to me!" to which I have to reply, "then stop TALKING!!!" lol.

In her defense, she was evaluated for having difficulty in school.  Her verbal IQ is ABOVE GENIUS level lmao! What she has difficulties with is taking her thoughts and turning them into written word.  If she could talk her way through homework without having to write- she would be top in her class!
