I am a new mom and I'm a bit confused on how many bottles I have to buy and which ounces exactly. I am planning on breastfeeding only the 1st three months. Please assist me. Thank you
I have 7 bottles that are 4 oz and 6 that are 8 oz. I went back to work at 12 weeks and baby would eat between 3 and 4 bottles in a 8 hour period of time that were 4 oz each. A few months later he went to eating only 2-3 bottles in that time frame, two 5 oz and a 4 oz.
I liked having extra so I always had a set available in case I hadn't got the others washed. Each baby is different but that worked for us.
I found a cheap-ish "starter kit" on amazon. Personally I'm not going crazy on the bottles yet since I don't know how often I'll be using them and more importantly, I don't want to be playing "guess what kind of nipple baby needs" until he's here since it sounds like it can get sort of pricey.
Honestly I wouldn't buy too many yet just in case you hate cleaning a certain one or baby doesn't like one. But I would get a "starter kit" if you can (tommee tippee has one that comes with 2 5oz and 2 9 oz) and then buy extra as needed. I think in the end I had maybe 4 5oz and 6 9oz. I EPed so I had extra so I didn't have to immediately clean them as soon as they were used.
depends on how often you want to clean. I had 6 4oz bottles then when baby grow out of that I had 9 8oz bottles. I found this worked good for us. We always do at least one load of dishes a day and I used the bottles with liners. So I would rinse a bottle out, toss the liner and put a new one in after each feeding.
My baby grew out of the small bottles very quickly. I wish I would have just gone for the big ones and bought the correct nipple flow to change out. I would have about 8-10 big bottles if I were you. That being said I bought tons of tommee tippee and a couple medela and my baby only preferred medela. The TT bottles leaked from his mouth from the shape of the nipple. I was so sad because I preferred the TT bottles.
If you plan on breastfeeding the first 3 months, wait. There's no rush, you'll see what you need then. I don't know your reasons for wanting to wean at 3 months old but maybe by then they could have changed.
