August 2015 Moms

Now that baby's here what's your favorite gear?

My favorites are my baby ktan carrier and his Love to Dream Swaddle Up.

My least favorite/biggest waste of $ items are the play mat I got for tummy time and the 4Moms swing. Fortunately, the swing was a hand me down.

  • For us the mamaroo has been a lifesaver. For some reason DS will sleep like a champ in his pack n play at night but only in the mamaroo for naps.

Also receiving blankets - 1001 uses!

My least favourite item is the the baby bathtub. It's a pain in the a$$ and the kitchen sink works like a charm. We have a bath seat that goes in our tub for when he is bigger but the bathtub is a total waste of $ IMO.
  • Right now my woven wrap is the only thing she will let me carry her in so definitely that! I have tried a moby, mei tai, beco, and a ring sling. None of which she wanted anything to do with. The wrap she falls asleep in great and lets me actually do stuff with my 2 year old in the morning!

Otherwise, we use the pack n play, bouncer, swing and rock n play all off and on throughout the day. The pack n play is probably the most useful though.
  • Loooove the baby ktan. My sister recommended it and I used it the first time today. Super comfortable, easy to use and he slept 2 solid hours in it before I woke him up to take him out.
OP wait a couple months for the mat. My son loved it around 3 months

  • Our favorites: his boppy lounger, the moby wrap, the BOB stroller, and the dohm white noise machine. Our least favorites: the ktan wrap, the mamaroo, the swing (he dislikes anything that moves).

Baby Will born 8/18. He's perfect.
  • Yeah the mat is much more useful when they're a few months old.

I love my SkipHop diaper bag and my Baby Jogger CitySelect stroller which I can make into a tandem double stroller since my daughters are only 17 months apart.

I bought an Arms Reach cosleeper and I've just been sleeping with baby in the bed because she sleeps a million times better when actually in the bed. So this was the biggest waste of money for us. It's a glorified changing pad right now.
  • The boppy, Maya wrap & his swing

    ETA: Boba wrap
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • I love my halo sleep sack...mamaroo...and all the cute clothes we got. It's so fun playing dress up. Hate my tub. Worthless crap.
    BabyFruit Ticker
  • Love: ring sling through the day to get things done. My ergo is awesome for wearing at the store or on walks. I love my arms reach cosleeper too. Since I'm pumping, microwave sterilizer bags are a must.
I don't dislike anything yet... Haven't tried the baby swing yet.

  • I looooove our A+A blankets. They're big and light weight and LO loves them. Love our Gerber cloth diapers for burp cloths. The Boppy is great, and our Rock n Play. Other than that, we only use the boob :|

    This exactly.
  • Ring sling and A&A swaddle blankets.

  • Dr. Brown's bottles have saved us! She's not suckling down nearly as much air! The swing has been great for naps. The boppy is awesome. Saline mist. Diaper genie.

    Useless: the bouncer, bottle warmer
  • Yes to Swaddle Up! DS loves to be in it. Balboa carrier and bouncer are also a huge +!
  • Oh and the Soothie pacifier!
  • Swaddle me's, Carter's blankets, Rockaroo, and my Kiinde System. Once I understand how to tie my damn boba wrap maybe I will like that

    Oh and the Soothie pacifier!

I think I need to get one of these for DD, she seems like she wants the paci but isn't taking the infant one we have.
  • The boppy, swing, swaddleme, and definitely the soothie pacifier. It's the only one she'll take and it's a lifesaver!
  • We love our mamaroo. She always spits up flat on her back so it saves my sanity when she sleeps in that. We only using the rocking motion during naps. Also, I love my earth mama angel nipple butter. It's really amazing. Something else I wasn't expecting to love or even use, disposable changing pads, I put these on any of our actual changing surfaces and they've saved a lot of laundry already.
  • Pack and play is what gets the most use for us. Also i love the spectra breast pump.

The things I'm not thrilled with is the ring sling, boppy lounger, Avent bottle warmer (wish I got one with a timer), city mini car seat adapter (I just went out and bought a frame stroller today... I'll use the city mini when she is bigger), and the bouncer seat thing - I have no idea what it's called but it's useless to her.
  • MAM pacis (the only paci DS will take), the Moby wrap, and the diaper genie! I didn't think we would is the diaper genie but it comes in handy when you don't want to walk all the way into the kitchen.

Biggest waste of money was the tub and all the swaddled blankets (DS hates to be swaddled)
  • Thank heavens for the Swaddle Up and Woombie which actually allow the kid to sleep and not wake himself up, and diaper changes in the middle of the night are awesome. Also the Mam pacifier that he's finally taking. Our baby hates all attempts to be soothed by anything other than a human, so none of our gadgets work. I have to second @carleyec93 with the boob being our most used item...

They are the only ones she will take! The others are all deflated, maybe that has something to do with it. The nicu nurse gave her one and said she has the most luck with babies taking soothies compared to other pacifiers!
  • The soothie is the only paci our LO will take too. We also love our swing, boba wrap, Dr. Brown bottles, and boppy for nursing.
  • Good: soothie, halo bassinest, travel system, swaddle blankets, electric pump

Bad: playard (I thought we would use this in lieu of a crib but it was a pain)
  • Don't give up on your bouncers/swings yet either!  It can take a few weeks or more before lo will warm up to them.  Keep trying them, and you might be pleasantly surprised one of these days.
  • DD loves her Gumdrop pacifier, which is similar to the Soothie. We got it from the hospital. She always spits out the MAM one, but she likes the MAM bottles. We like them too because they let air out. She only sometimes likes her swing. She hates being swaddled. We aren't gonna use the pack and play til she's bigger, so idk about that one. Haven't used the tub yet either, as she still has some healing/scabbing in her belly button. I've used her bouncer twice, the first time she loved it and the second time she cried. I have a very 50/50 kid lol.
  • We use our boppy, rock n play, and pack n play daily. Although DS hasn't done any rocking/playing, so I don't know if he will like that or not. Lately we are also really thankful for our Dr. Brown's bottles and mam pacifiers. We also use our a&a swaddle blankets all the time. DS like his hands up by his faces, so we swaddle him with his arms out.

DS hasn't been a fan of the avent bottles, but they were all free gifts for creating registries, so I'm not too worried about that
  • Mam pacifiers, the lasinoh momma
Bottles, woombies, hospital grade pump, her vibrating seat, I also love my Chicco keyfit 30 zip with the self leveling bases and stroller caddy. I cannot even tell you how easy it makes my life.

Also my mupiricin ointment for my nipples, mothers love more milk special blend supplements, Aden and Anais blankets.
    Daisypath Anniversary tickers

True! Our girl is 4 weeks old and hated the swing until this week, but she loves it now and will nap in it. Hurray for Mama being able to take a shower now! Now, hopefully she'll like the bouncy chair soon...
  • Love: graco jogging stroller travel system, k'tan wrap, aden anais blankets, swaddleme wrap, wabbanub (LO absolutely loves this and holds onto the little stuffed animal, it's so cute), arms reach co sleeper, swing

Dislike- boppy (I found this so uncomfortable to nurse with, a regular pillow worked much better, glad it was a hand me down!), vibrating bouncy seat(I really hope LO grows to like this soon)
  • We love MAM pacis, A&A swaddle blankets, burp cloths made by a friend, car seat canopy (great for keeping nosey people germs away), and out breast pump.

The mamaroo is a hit or miss depending on LO's mood.

We are not fans of our bassinet or play yard yet.

    We HATE Huggies diapers!

Another must have for us (although NBR) is an extension cord. It has made life so much easier. I no longer have to sit next to the wall outlet to pump and I can charge my phone and bump at the same time :)
  • LOVE the Soothie! We got 5 from the hospital :) I get the most use out of our pack n play's cuddle cove with the vibration. DS naps and sleeps in this and I can carry it around the apartment wherever I go.

Not a fan of our swing, takes forever to buckle him in that by the time I turn it on he's screaming. He's fallen asleep in it a few times but it's just such a hassle to get him in and out that it's not really worth it.

A&a swaddle blankets, summer baby swaddle pods and swaddle me, Nuk pacifiers, Dr brown bottles, lansinoh double electric pump, diaper genie, Fisher price roses chandelier swing, dohm sound machine, receiving blankets for their many uses, pampers diapers, all lansinoh products, uppababy Vista travel system, uppababy mesa car seat, baby brezza disinfecting and drying system, mustela baby products, nose frida, little remedies gift pack, braun 1 second thermometer, snugglenest , boppy lounger

Dislikes: bouncer, rock n play we tried the other day, non orthodontic pacifiers, munchkin latch bottles, tippie Tom or whatever bottles, Nuk bottles, Avent bottles, halo bassinest bassinet because it's ugly and takes up space but we use of course, gimmicky bathtub with "spa" features, buttpaste cause it stains everything

Not sure about: boppy pillow, mam bottles, medela double electric pump and products, Aiden and anais ready swaddle with snaps, halo sleep swaddles
  • My faves are: my breast friend (even DH loves using it!), Chico p&p, and swaddle me (baby doesn't sleep otherwise).

The avent bottles have not been as good as the mam ones. We don't really use the changing pads, just old towels.
  • And our glider chair has been amazing! I'm in it all night!
  • My backpack diaper bag and the stroller. And the pacifier!
  • Love: boppy, pack n play, mamaroo, pjs with footies and built in mittens! She has a ton of cute clothes but at 2 weeks we've already decided functionality is better than fashion!

Dislike: swaddle me blankets - at about day 4 she decided she hated being swaddled
Also her bassinet which is 30+ yrs old and used my me and all my siblings. I worked so hard restoring it and getting it all nice and pretty but she just thrashes around it it and gets her hands and feet caught in the rails so we moved her to the pack n play
