Talons aren't a great thing to be named after. Changing the spelling doesn't change the sound. I would cringe hearing it as a name because I think of an actual talon.
I won't flame on this one I like it but I like it spelt Talon.
Most people don't think of the meaning of the name they just like the way it sounds. If u were to look at the meaning then Kennedy is misshapen head, Cameron is crooked nose, Gideon is having a stump for a hand, Calvin means bald, Byron is a barn for cows. I could keep going here but I won't.
Since Talon means large claw of a bird of prey seems like it has a strong meaning and better meaning then the ones I listed above.

Yeah, but Cameron, Gideon and and Byron all have historical use as first names in western culture. (Kennedy is a surname)
Talon is more, "I need a name for my edgy, dark vampire protagonist that conveys how edgy, dark and dangerous he is"

Except not because that's a little far fetched considering the meaning of Talon versus those of the ones I listed before. They may be historical names but that doesn't change the meaning behind those names whatsoever. If Talon meant edgy, dark and dangerous vampire, then I could see your point!! But it doesn't.
Sorry are you planning to audition this child for some new version of the Twilight series when he gets older. That's the only purpose I could see for giving him a name like that.
So the name is spelled Talon, but I've only ever heard it as a female name. I don't think it's the worst name, honestly, but it doesn't have the best association and I'm not a fan of potentially gender neutral names.
My French husband gets a kick out of this name trend because Talon in French means heel or high heels. I know, many people don't know that but I can't help but think of Louboutins when I hear of a child named Talon. (I have two on my FB feed.)
I know a male Talon. No opinion on it. you should pick a name you like unless people can provide a reason other than preference as to what's wrong with it.
Re: Thoughts on Tallen??
