rings

I was just wondering if anyone during a previous or current pregnancy had to get a new wedding ring because of their weight gain/redistribution/bloat? I know my mother did this back in the 80s but now that I'm getting to the point of my rings being tight I feel like it's a little self indulgent to buy a new one just for pregnancy.

Mine is only a simple white gold 10k so it would probably be only about $100 but just looking for some other opinions.

Re: rings

  • I bought a cheap fake CZ ring from target with my first pregnancy just so I'd have something to wear.

  • Cant you finger continue to get bigger throughout the pregnancy? Seems like a waste if u get it then it dont fit u in ur third trimester. I wuld just get just cheap rings.

  • If you don't want to spring for a new ring (I wouldn't either!) what about wearing it on a chain as a necklace?

good point- do you think that a finger could swell more than a size and a half? Cheap rings may be the way to go- or maybe tungsten since it's so cheap but it shouldn't get my finger all green.

  • You can get them resized. I've had to take mine to the jeweler and have it resized with each of my pregnancies. I've already had it moved up a full size with this one.

I would do that with my engagement ring for sure. I just feel like I would be naked without a ring- the mornings I forget to put them back on I fidget all day long

  • I didn't have this problem with my first pregnancy, BUT my ring is about a half size big to begin with.  I was going to get it resized but my mom advised I wait until after I'm done having kids in case my fingers DO swell and then I wouldn't be able to wear it when pregnant.  It's not lose enough that I would lose it so I followed her advice.  I did buy a fake CZ for when I travel though.... I felt nervous going on a beach vacation with it and I wouldn't want to just leave it in the hotel room.   So my advice is to just buy a cheap one too, especially since your ring size may change again before you are done.

  • I haven't had any issues with this pregnancy, but I couldn't wear mine during the last couple of months of my last pregnancy due to some serious hand swelling/ joint issues. I didn't replace/ resize them, or get a substitute ring; I just didn't wear one until after the birth and all the swelling went down. I wouldn't get a new ring, after the pregnancy, your fingers will most likely come back to the pre-pregnancy size.
Do people really buy a new ring just for the pregnancy (fake or not)? I never knew that was a thing. I just didn't wear them when they didn't fit.

  • Mine fit through my entire pregnancy except for when I was in the hospital and had dd. I was so pumped with Ivs everything with puffy and weird.

I personally wouldn't buy another ring to wear, can you just wear a different ring you own on that finger if you want a ring there?
  • I had to take mine off at the very end of my last pregnancy. I would never buy a new ring though. Your body will slowly go back to normal. With all the money it takes to have a baby it seems like a huge waste to get a new one. I can understand getting an inexpensive one if you really feel naked. There is also to much sentimental attachment to my rings.
  • with my first i was pregnant during the summer and i definitely swelled so i didn't wear my wedding ring for probably a few months.  with #2 it fit most of my pregnancy maybe the last month or so it didn't fit.  I just didn't wear one.  to me it would feel weird just wearing a different ring on that finger just to wear a ring.

  • I might get a cheap band so I can wear it on my right hand after I have the baby, I've been wanting one anyway. But if I don't find anything I might just not wear anything.

  • I haven't noticed any difference so far (at 19 weeks)
I figured, if they get tight, I'll just take them off and then put them back on after the baby comes.

If they don't fit after the baby comes, then more motivation to lose the weight! Lol

  • I think I stopped wearing mine in the last few weeks, but a month or so after giving birth, the bloat went down and I was able to get them on again
  • My rings fit until maybe the last week before having my son. I'm OK with just not wearing a ring for a bit so I opted for that. I think I would do the same even for a few months.
  • Mine barely fit til the end of first tri. I don't know why. But my husband and I barely wear our rings, it's just not a big deal. So I haven't bought fake ones, but there's a million $10-20 rings at department stores. Plus, they're usually huge stones, so you could look quite fancy for a while;)

  • I had to take mine off around 30 weeks or so for my last two pregnancies. I wouldn't waste the money on a temporary ring. I actually did have to get mine resized after my second because of how much weight I gained. But thanks to morning sickness I've lost weight and now it's loose.

I will say though, make sure yall take off your rings before it's too late!! A friend of mind just had to have hers cut off by her jeweler because she waited too long!
  • I never had to stop wearing my rings with my last pregnancy and I hope that it goes the samesies with this one. If not they will be put back in their boxes until I can safely slip them on again.

  • Just buy a fake one! That is my plan if mine starts not to fit!
  • I haven't gained any pounds but all my fat and bloat are redistributing. I can't believe all you ladies who say they made it all the way until a few weeks before labor. I do fiddle with them so I won't get in a situation where I need them cut off.

Does anyone have any brands of cheap stuff that doesn't turn your fingers green?

  • Mine stopping fitting by tri 3 with DS. I think I did buy a fake cheapie from target or Walmart. When my real one wouldn't fit after lo was a month or two I took it to the jeweler to get resized but he told me not to do it. He said I'd loose more weight. Then he pulled out a bottle of windex sprayed my finger and put it on super easily! I thought I'd share because I was so happy to wear it again.

  • With DD mine actually got too big. Until After labor then I bloated up for a day. My rings started getting tight right away this time which made me alittle sad. However I do have first and fifth anniversary rings that are a half size bigger because I wear them on my right hand so I just wear them on my left hand now. I'm hoping the swelling goes down in the fall/winter. But I wouldn't have a problem not wearing the except I do feel naked and touch my hand like pp said
  • I had a sterling silver ring custom made. I had my babies name stamped in it. 30 bucks. Wasn't going to resize my wedding band etc. My finger will go down in size when I lose the weight.

Not completely the same, but I'm planning on getting this ring and wearing it to work (I'm a server) for later in my pregnancy.  I am currently unmarried and don't plan on getting married until SO and I have the funds to have the wedding we want.  I go to school in the South in a small town where some judgy-ass people live, and several of my girl co-workers told me to invest in a cheap ring that looks real enough for when I'm working.

This is how my body works, too, so I feel your pain!  And I will say, I had to have one of my mom's rings cut off in the ER when I was 11 or 12 because it was stuck and I was a little traumatized...so I probably lean on the careful side!

  • I was able to wear my ring during both my pregnancies up until I gave birth. But after I had DD it didn't fit for 2 weeks, I guess from water retention. I couldn't imagine buying or resizing. If it doesn't fit for awhile I just wouldn't wear it.

  • I wouldn't get it resized or buy a new/nice one. Pregnancy is only temporary. I got a cheap CZ one off Amazon to wear to work (because I was sick of the old lady questions about being pregnant and not married because I didn't have my ring on). I have a lot of jewelry sensitivities, and it worked great. It was maybe $25.

This is what I did also and I've kept it for subsequent pregnancies also.  When I feel it getting too tight, I just swap it out!

  • I was able to wear my ring my whole pregnancy with my DS. I think it felt a tiny bit snug at the very end but I could still wear it. It has felt a little big ever since so it may have stretched out.

  • I, too, was able to wear my rings throughout my entire pregnancy.  I agree with PP, they got a little snug toward the very end & I had a c-section, so I had to take them off for that.  But nothing too serious.  If you are already feeling swollen, I would just take them off and wear them on a necklace.

  • I wore my rings on the necklace i never remove for my last tri of my last pregnancy. No need to buy another ring unless it costs u like $10-20.

And saying "fake cz" is like saying frozen ice. A cz is already a fake diamond.

  • Luckily my husband surprised me with the ring and couldn't ask my size, it's a bit big so mine will never be tight! The one time men's mistakes work! I hope you found a good fix :)
