What baby items do you never use?

Just curious how many of you bought/received stuff prior to baby that you don't use. Seems like I have alot of stuff I thought I needed that was a waste of money. I don't use the extra car seat, all the swaddle blankets are not used as she doesn't like to be swaddled, she hates the cosleeper and she has her favorite bottle and won't use any others. What about you?

Re: What baby items do you never use?

  • We never used the baby monitor with my first or this one. No need to monitor a baby who is with you all the time! :D

  • We got two diaper bags and pretty much only use one, and we literally got about 25 blankets of different sizes and thicknesses and we only use the 3 light swaddling blankets that came in a pack. We're in Florida, it's too hot for anything thick!

We were also gifted a Mamaroo that she isn't a fan of but I'm still holding out hope she will grow to like it. She also didn't like her swing at first and now she will hang out in it for a while.

I bought a few different Velcro swaddlers because she kept busting out of the blanket swaddlers, and there was only one she tolerated. Luckily I was able to return the others.

  • I haven't used the pack n play yet, most of the lotions and creams.
  • The change table
She is always getting changed on a mat/towel on the couch or floor
  • We don't really use the Pack n Play, or at least the sleeper part, we just have it downstairs to use for diaper changes. And the crib has gotten zero use but hopefully that'll change in the next month or two.
  • We got a bassinet (hand me down) and the only thing we use it for is for diaper changes in the middle of the night. Can't wait to get it out of my bedroom!!
  • ibaby monitor has gotten little use, also the crib & haven't used the snuza baby sleep monitor that you clip on their diaper at all, but I think once my LO is using the crib at night (when he can consistently sleep longer than 3-4 hours) the other 2 items will be used as well
  • Co-sleeper. We were planning on co-sleeping and bought a co-sleeper, but LO loves sleeping in his vibrating chair.

I don't use a lot of baby pants. Too much work when constantly changing a baby

I never used any of the nipple creams I bought, never ended up having sore or cracked nipples

I have yet to use my baby carrier.
  • It's been too hot for the carrier! And my squirmy baby didn't do well in my old cradle so that too

  • @ChristyM87 my LO also sleeps in the vibrating bouncy chair. Do you think it will be hard to transition from that to crib?
  • We have a ton of hats, socks and scratch mittens we never use. Similarly newborn size pajamas - it's rare she even wears a onesie unde her Woombie at night. It's just way too hot for any of these things!!
  • We haven't used the pack n play yet but I wasn't expecting to this early.

We also got so many blanket it's ridiculous! The worst part is they are baby size so neither me or DH can get away with using them!

The swaddle blankets we use so much except to swaddle!
  • We apparently wasted lots of $$! Our DD refuses to sleep in her bassinet - the halo swivel bassinet.
  • A lot of her little accessories, like shoes and hair things (got them from my sister in law/neice) and her dr. Browns bottles, she prefers the playtex.
  • I pretty much bought most of my daughters things so I knew a lot of what I needed but I would have to say right now we arnt using crib (she sleeps in a bassinet right now) transitioning maybe next week. Her carrier we have used twice. The first time she puked in it and the second time she cried but I'm not a huge fan of the style of it and maybe she isn't either lol. Other then that... We use all her blanket, although the smaller receiving blanket she can kick off now so I use those as burp clothes and I use the carter brand swaddle blankets cause they stay on! Oh oh! I've got one! The sleepers that have the open bottom. I have not used those as the first time I did she got her legs out, scrunched it right up and woke up screaming cause she was uncomfortable. Won't be using that again!
  • Where to start!
The crib (ended up buying a pod/nest thing for co-sleeping)
A zillion clothes, especially summer ones and now it's pretty much over
  • Bottles, bibs, blankets, baby monitor (maybe someday when's she in her own room but can't imagine that yet!)
    And the mamaroo!
  • The momma roo. Hubby just had to buy it (he's a techy guy) and our little girl doesn't like it at all. Maybe she'll grow into it. Who knows.

Also- diaper creams. We haven't used any of those, they just take up space in the drawer.

  • My LO loved the mamaroo for about a week. We had to return it. I should have guessed she would prefer a hand me down swing over a $300 mamaroo. What was I thinking? /:)

We also never used the snuza or half of the clothes she has. She also doesn't like her bouncer.
  • Dang my baby hates the mamaroo too what's up with that thing ?!
  • Give it time for the mammaroo. At 6-7 weeks mine started to like it. At 8 weeks he loves it. Kicks his feet, watches the mobile and will nap in it. I do my workouts while he's hanging out in it.
  • Baby hats and bibs, never wore one of them yet. We got a bunch of blankets, but they're good through toddler years.

  • The summer infant SwaddleMe wrapS. I was going to return it but they said I would need it and I never did. I bought the Aiden & Anais muslins instead.
  • I haven't used the ring sling, but it's more that I haven't put in the effort to figure it out. Baby just fell asleep, so I'll get on that...

I was starting to worry about that, too.  My rock n play battery has started to go, so it barely vibrates anymore.  Rather than change the battery, I decided to just let it go.  I am hoping that it will make LO's transition to the pack n play (which is our next step) easier.

I got a bottle warmer I used only once.  Haven't used the baby monitor yet, but plan to once she moves into her own room.

  • @ktyrd007 ugh I wish my LO like her woombie, I was so so excited for it.
  • Pacifiers that are NOT a wubbanub
  • Crib actually the whole nursery. We spend most of our time in the living room and our bedroom.
Also we don't use the monitor, diaper rash cream, or nipple butters. She only likes her swing for 2-5 minutes, so not really that either
  • newborn sized anything! LO was too big for any of it. ::and the stuff was so cute too!::
  • So far, haven't used the monitor, humidifier, or diaper creams yet. Tried using the 4moms infant tub, but LO is still too small for it. Clothes other than the zip up sleep n plays and side snap shirts. LO rarely uses his swing either.

LOVE the boppy lounger, pack n plays (one for downstairs and one for upstairs), crib, wubbanubs, burp cloths, Earth's Best diapers, water wipes!

  • Let's see... swaddlers, since she likes having her arms free and has since the day she was born pretty much. The basinet, since she doesn't sleep well in it. She sleeps in a little pod sleeper thing by our bed and I just wrap her legs up in a baby blanket.

I had a baby sling and tried it once and she hated it lol. So that hasn't been used.

I also don't really use the baby hats.
  • Haven't used the swaddlers but a couple of times. She doesn't really like to be swaddled. Also, haven't really used the changing pad but a couple of times. Luckily I just went with a regular dresser she could grow with rather than a standard changing table, but she usually gets changed on a portable changing mat on the ground (with me)...DH uses the changing station connected to the pack n play that DD sleeps in during the day (since we live in a two story house). We use that on our first floor and my side of the family's cottage. I think we'd use the changing pad more if DD's bedroom was on the first floor....and now that DD is basically sleeping through the night (knock on wood), there are less diapers being changed in her bedroom.

Another big thing we're not really using....pacifiers. DD just doesn't like them. I was given and then bought so many different kinds to help her soothe herself. No brand or style works. I know I'll be thankful about this one day when some parents are struggling to get their children to stop using them, but I'm all for them at this stage in an infant's life for soothing. All I know that works is her hand by her mouth (not sucking on it) and falling asleep on her belly. We then go in and turn her to her back once she puts herself to sleep, which is maybe 5 or so minutes after we put her in. I was just shocked about the whole not taking a pacifier.
  • Hats, blankets, baby socks and summer clothes. We had so much of this stuff given to us we could never possibly use it all. The only time I use the hats is after a bath to warm him up. He just fits into most of the cute summer outfits people bought for him now, and it's already too cool most days for him to wear them :(
  • Also not a fan of pacifiers here nor her cosleeper. Also haven't really needed any lotion yet but that may change. I really really really want to start using the Maya wrap I have but I am a bit afraid I am not adjusting it right...plus I am scared of bending over and doing certain other chores with it on as I get hot easily.
  • Haven't used the ergo, he's still too small. Also we don't use the flower shaped bath pad. He baths in a plastic hand me down. It's much easier especially when we have dishes in the sink. We have tons of shoes that were given to us and he has never once worn any of them.
  • All of the fleece pj's in newborn size. It was just too hot this summer! Also, the Halo sleep sacks, but that will probably change when she moves to her crib in a month or so...she sleeps in the rock n play since coming home. We obviously haven't used the crib yet, either!
  • We're in the middle of this right now! DD has done well - we started by turning off the viBrate once she was asleep, then not turning it on at all, then To the bassinet part on her pack and play and now to the open space in her pack and play. It's going well! I'm hoping to have her in her crib in a couple of weeks - honestly I think she'd be ok but I'm not ready to have her out of our room yet!
  • @epautler, I'm the same! I don't want DD in another room yet. :) DH keeps asking when we're moving her to the crib, buy I keep putting him off!
