Popped rib?

So I'd heard of this but never really took it seriously until lately. I guess I sort of thought of it more like an old wives tale. Then one night about a week ago I was going to sleep and felt Bun moving. There was pressure again my side from Bun pushing and suddenly I felt a sort of "pop" and like something gave along with a lot of pain.

I'm in physical therapy for SPD and brought it up at my last session. She thought baby had popped a rib out but it turned out to be a pulled muscle (thanks, Kid).

Now as I feel kicking against my ribs and that similar pressure I'm honestly freaked out that it will be a rib next time. The worst I had with DS was when he'd kicked my kidney, not like this.

Has anyone dealt with baby popping a rib out or known someone it happened to? I'm just really curious.

Re: Popped rib?

  • You mean like if the baby can break your ribs? I have never heard of that $_$. That would be extreme probably.

Broken rib but more commonly there are floating lower ribs that baby can dislodge. At least this is what I was told.

  • Ummmm ouch!!! I'm finding SPD bad enough. Sorry to hear you're dealing with a popped out rib as well!!

I've damaged the muscles between my ribs before and I remember the popping sensation. And then the agony.

Hope it gets better real soon!!
  • @stickybun14 Thankfully I'm only dealing with a pulled muscle rather than a popped rib. It's that after talking to my physical therapist about it I'm freaked out by the chance of a rib being dislodged. It didn't help that she talked about it like it happens all the time.
  • A friend of mine's baby broke her rib and there was nothing they could do to treat it. When the baby would go near it again she had to put an ice pack on the spot and the baby would move away. Maybe try that?

  • I just recently felt a pop in my rib. It wasn't too painful and went to the doctor. They said I strained an intercostal muscle. The next day I had he most extreme pain and couldn't even take deep breaths. I went to the hospital and they did all sorts of tests. It wound up just being the muscle and huge spasms which affected my breathing.

I will try that. Thank you.
