Cluster Feeding ?

Is anyone else experiencing this with their Bub ? My DD seems to do it during the late night / early morning period..... If so how are you coping with the lack of sleep ?

Re: Cluster Feeding ?

  • Crying...lol But no seriously, I had several breakdowns during cluster feeding and then we got to the doctor yesterday and she was 2oz over birth weight in less than 2 weeks which made me feel less upset about it. At the time I was breaking down because I was so exhasuted. My suggestion is either pump so DH can help or just know cluster feeing should last just a few days in order to stimulate more milk and to help with growth spurts. Then you can catch up on some Zz's when its over during some sleep stretches. Its tough, I know, I was seriously worried about myself. I feel a little better now, but still worried ill go back down hill during the next round!

  • We had it bad the first week home in the evenings. The second week she didn't seem to do it as bad. Luckily it doesn't last forever and usually buys me some good sleep but yeah...tough.
  • It is comforting to know I'm not the only one going through this. I wish DD just wouldn't do it from 12am-6am!!
  • Yes! It's late night / early morning for me as well. And also around 2 this afternoon @-) She fed for almost an hr and a half straight this afternoon. And then again like an hour later. I guess I'm too tired to realize I'm struggling. But I'm freezing milk as well....just not sure when to introduce the bottle so my husband can feed her. Help!!
  • @candicejeff2013 im freezing milk too and have a small stash, but have been trying not to use it because I want a big stash built up for when I go back to work!! Might give in and have DH do a bottle this weekend though...momma is so tired!
  • Yep but tbh the main thing that is annoying me Is that a lot of people don't believe it's a thing! Mom, MIL, even DH try to insist she isn't hungry or doesn't want to feed but I know she does! She likes to cluster feed in the late afternoon though. Netflix helps, and I sleep in most mornings and mom helps thankfully

  • My MIL didnt believe me either. She thought it was a ploy for me to take l.o. to our room and deprive her of baby time. Luckily everytime she came to "check" if i needed anything l.o. was attached. Hubby finally told her to stop bugging me or he was going to take l.o. for cluster breaks and she'd get no baby time.

As for survival. Netflix Hgtv and a stack up of pillows. Comfy and distracted.
  • My little one has been cluster feeding since day one and he is two weeks old now !! It's very tiring . I basically just hang around the house with my boobs out all day and night. He has gained over 1 lb since birth so I know he is getting enough and he has plenty of diapers everyday. Also i dread having visitors because he nurses soo much ! Hopefully he will grow out of this trend soon....
  • My mil said I need to supplement because of my DS doing cluster feedings. She said that my milk must be inadequate. Ughhhhhhhh!!! She is also mad that I don't give him water, and think his yellow seedy breast mill poop is diarrhea. So obnoxious. She gets mad at me every time he starts rooting. Sorry not sorry.
  • I spoke too soon, week three has been cluster feeding central for us. Mornings and evenings especially. The fussiness has been amped up too. Whew. And I thought I my formula fed other two babies were cluster feeders but it's a whole different ball game when you're the food!
