Your baby is adorable, but I would never do them after seeing some of the documentaries and the kids view after they grew up a bit. It was just sad. The pressure to be perfect by their mothers and coaches. It was terrible.
oh my goodness...NEVER would I enter my DC in a pagent. I think they are sick. I think it's exploitation...oversexualization/sexualization of children... on and on I could go.
I will trick her out like a pretty pony for a shot at a good school, but pagents, no way. A good education is what a girl needs, not fake teeth and a spray tan.
I have a friend with the FBI who specializes in child sexual abuse, etc. Do you have any idea how many pageant tapes are found in the video stashes of sex offenders and child pornographers?
if she wanted to when she was older (like teenage older) maybe. but i'd like to think the child i raise won't want anything to do with that superficial crap anyway.
oh yes lets continue to push into our children's minds that image is everything and to not be yourself. Can't wait to have a daughter so I can show her how to shake her booty for attention. {{Sarcasm}}
My 11 yo neice feels fat. She's not. Already concerned about it. Bull Sh!t.

never. ?i'm ok with dancing, singing, acting lessons and etiquette classes and teaching them about world peace and all... but the whole dressing them up and putting on make-up, spray tans, and fake teeth and hair? ?no way. ?if i have a DD and she is just dying to be in them she can enter them and pay for them herself when she is able.
My 11 yo neice feels fat. She's not. Already concerned about it. Bull Sh!t.
My 4yo niece just got her jazz/hiphop dance costume yesterday. It shows more skin than my husband saw on our wedding night. She doesn't really like it, but says "My teacher says we all look hot. But I'm cold and they won't let me wear my sweater!"

bwahahaha Brahim I heart you.
I hope to *insert faith figure here* that she never ever wants anything to do with pageants. *vomit*

WTH is the point of making 4yos look HOT?
And....Lori-what do you say to a comment like that? How do you respond?

oh this just pisses me off. DD will not be in cheer either because of the sluttiness that these Texas cheer groups think look "cute". Half shirts and teeny tiny little strips made into skirts? ugh.
Lori- Well hell didn't you know that every 4 year old wants to look hot? WTF are people thinking? Has everyone these days lost all amounts of modesty that women once had? See I'm getting on a rampage. These girls/kids need to be taught self respect and being proud of who they are no matter size. They need to be taught about being healthy. Oh geez. I'm gonna stop now.

I think DD is beautiful and have acutally had a representative of a children's modeling agency come up to me while we were out and give me his card telling me DD would do great as a child model. But, I told him no thank you and didn't even take the card. DH and I would never put DD in a pagent or modeling, for so many reasons. Most of them what others have already posted.
And....Lori-what do you say to a comment like that? How do you respond?
Basically with slack-jawed stuttering.
This all happened AFTER the slutty baby clothes post the other day. My sister is royally piissed because the parents all agreed on a different costume. But it didn't come in the size to fit the biggest girl in the class. Then they picked another one, and it didn't fit my niece. So the teacher just randomly picked what she wanted that fit all the girls, but the PARENTS still have to pay for it. Becky's livid that she's paying about $60 for the privilege of her daughter looking like a fringed neon hooker.
I started Ballet at age two, piano at age 5, acting lessons and pageants at age 8. I am now a very self-conscious neurotic perfectionist. No way in HELL will I ever encourage that for my daughter. I have some cute crowns and I a lot of pretty dresses but I missed out on childhood and teenhood. My (future) daughter can do ballet if she would like when she is 6 or older and can do pagents as a teen if this is something she wants... but it has to be her choice!!!!!!!
On the other hand Harmon will be the future 2022 Heisman Trophy winner playing for UT! And no he doesn't have a choice... I'm planning on starting his conditioning once he turns one by hitting him multiple times, chasing him for hours, and making him throw a toy football for hours on end.
this last paragraph is a joke!

I saw the previews for the Toddlers & Tiaras on TLC, no way!
I won't do that to DD, even if that's what she wants to do. She can do it when she's a teen if she wants, so for now we'll all have to live vicariously through Miss America, who goes to our church. And when DD is older, I'll make sure Kirsten talks to her about eating disorders (which was Kirsten's platform this year).
I will trick her out like a pretty pony for a shot at a good school, but pagents, no way. A good education is what a girl needs, not fake teeth and a spray tan.

Amen! Both on pph-ing Brahim and "Dear *faith figure* please do not let this be one of DD's interests."

I couldn't say it better....IMHO those moms are SICK
In defense of SouthernBelle, I never ever considered myself "Whored" out. I never felt like I was being sexualized etc. I don't like them b/c it puts a "must win" pressure on kids who are too young to be dealing with that and like Barhain said, I would rather invest in education. But it isn't whoring out your child!

NO. I'm sorry but those things make me sick to my stomach. It disturbs me on so many levels to see little girls dressed like dolls or all slutted up with the make up and the hairsprayed teased hair just to get a trophy. It always means more to the parent who was in pagents herself or wished she could have been.
I would likely say never. I don't see any daughter that comes from me wanting to be in a pagent, but then I remember that I wanted to be a pagent girl as a kid but I knew I couldn't cause I wasn't skinny enough (but I really was fat...it wasn't just a thing). I would never in a million years encourage it, but if I had a daughter who really, really wanted to be in pagents - I wouldn't ban her from it unlessit was out of hand and she quit having fun with it. I'm all in favor of making your own choices and pursuing your dreams, and if I had a daughter who dreamed of being a beauty queen...I wouldn't stop her. I just don't think there's a 'snowballs chance in hell' that I would ever have that daughter.
...also I'm not even sure if they really do them here in Minnesota.

Sorry, but pretty much when heII freezes.

haha. I hate to admit I had to think about this. Good answer?
ditto everyone. cold day in hell.

besides, we already know she's the cutest!

Never.
I watched that show on TLC or something about the 17 year olds who were in pageants when they were little. I found it all so sad.
And....Lori-what do you say to a comment like that? How do you respond?

Education is the top priority. Not looks.

If she wants to do them, I'll let her. I did my first when I was probably 5 or 6. I looooved getting dressed up so they were fun.
**edit: I should add that I asked my mom if I could be in it. She was hardly the 'pageant mom' type
Did you have the fake teeth?
I saw the previews for the Toddlers & Tiaras on TLC, no way!

Totally. But no spray tan. That was all natural baby.
Amen! Both on pph-ing Brahim and "Dear *faith figure* please do not let this be one of DD's interests."
We don't have them here. Thank GOD.
Never. Obviously. But at least Jo could pass on the spray tan.

For your hypothetical anti-feminist child...

oh yes, Even the great state of Minnesota has pagents!
I prever this convention at the same hotel.
(but at least I know the hotel inside and out if I ever need to go).
