Reflux

Ok so I'm pretty sure my LO has reflux. Pediatrician is monitoring for a month and just sent us home to use gas drops for now until we know for sure. But is anyone else dealing with the severe anxiety of their LO spitting up and choking!??? I've had two freak out moments and now I MUST elevate after feeding for so long to help reduce the spit up choking spells. It's the worst/scariest thing ever. I just left a la leche meeting and have been in my car for over an hour because I fed her and now trying to burp her etc. I'm terrified to put her in her car seat sometimes in fear she will choke while I'm driving! I know these things pass with time but my gosh.

How are you dealing with this?

Re: Reflux

  • LO definitely has bad reflux and chokes all the time. I basically have to keep her elevated 24/7. It scares her so bad when it happens. So yesterday I asked her pediatrician to prescribe her something so I'll be picking it up today. I hope it helps her!! Hope you get something for LO too!

How do you get over the anxiety of LO being in the car seat when you go places? I'm legit terrified for her to choke while I'm driving.
  • My son has bad reflux. We were given Zantac for him to take. It works wonders! Plus she gave us stronger form of drops for him to take if he is extremely upset. I always ride in the back with him if my husband is driving. I have a mirror in the back of my car so I can see him. Try getting one. It helped calm my nerves.

Well we try to limit her car seat rides & I have my twins ride next to her so they can tell me what's going on. Otherwise I probably would have more anxiety. I'm really hoping the reflux meds help her. Do you have one of those mirrors in your car so you can see her? That would make me feel better. Also if you don't want to wait a month for reflux meds, I don't see anything wrong with letting the doctor know how concerned you are & that you don't want to wait that long & you think it would be best to try something now. Good luck mama!
  • Monitor it for a month?! Ya, no thanks. It's not fair for LO to suffer for a month when medication could alleviate it. DD2 had horrible reflux and I was terrified of her choking on her vomit for the first 3 months. The car seat is the worst as it puts extra pressure on their tummies.
  • I called the pediatrician again today about getting a possible prescription but he still wouldn't prescribe anything because LO is still so young. He said there are "other things" that can be done to alleviate the symptoms. Most likely elevating and burping, burping, burping. Well, I can throw any chance of sleep out the door now as I will be up all night feeding followed by hours of burping and elevating...

Wow! I would have said I'm already doing all of those things and they aren't working so I would like something for her or to speak to another pediatrician. (I can get crazy like that when it comes to my kids) Can you speak to someone else or schedule her an appointment with someone new? LO shouldn't have to suffer. I'm sorry they are being so difficult on giving LO something. This would be the time mama bear came out if it were me lol.

I'd find a new pedi. No reason to let your baby suffer. I'll give you the tips my pediatrician gave me. You know those head rest they have that go in car seats? Get one of those and when your changing the baby put it under there neck so if they spit up they aren't choking on it. Another thing you can do is go to a chiropractor. They adjusted Tanner and he seemed to feel better after. And if gas becomes a problem then you can message right under their rib cage. It helps get things moving and most babies like it. That's what my sons pediatrician told me to do. Plus they checked his poop for blood in the stool. Turns out they found blood. So he could be allergic to milk based products. So see if they will test you LOs poop. Your baby could be allergic. My son has a wonderful Dr. They really do everything to make sure baby (and momma) are happy!
