December 2015 Moms

I think we have a name....

My husband and I are having a baby girl. We already have a son, Samuel. We both love the name Hannah. I was hesitant to name her Hannah because Hannah is Samuel's mother in the Bible. Lately however, I'm thinking that Samuel is older and my mother always told me my sisters were like mothers to me. The name we are thinking is:

Hannah Elizabeth

Elizabeth is my middle name.

Hannah means grace, or favor and Elizabeth means crowned in his glory.

We've looked at other names but always come back to Hannah. I struggled with infertility for over a year with our son. This baby was a surprise. Baby kicks whenever we talk about Hannah too. I liked the  name Grace too but my sister named her daughter that. Thoughts?

Re: I think we have a name....

  • I like Hannah, however I am not religious so I can't really advise you on that aspect. You should also try the baby names board.

  • Hannah was definitely on my girl names list too. I don't think there's anything wrong with Hannah and Samuel as siblings! They're both good names with nice meanings.

  • I think they're lovely names and if you're still set on it when she's born then I say go for it!
You could try calling her name out as you would for your son, if you love it then that's a good sign!
  • I don't think anyone will pay attention to the relation. Love the name, go for it!
  • i agree with posting on the baby names board, they will have some good feedback for you. I like the name Hannah Elizabeth and would have never known about the bible association with Samuel.
  • There is nothing wrong with Hannah and Samuel as siblings.

Hannah is a very nice name, and I think goes well with Samuel.
  • I am Christian and didn't think of the Hannah/Samuel connection. I like biblical names and think if you love it, then use it! I think Hannah Elizabeth is beautiful!
  • I love the name Hannah and don't think it is an issue to have two children named after related biblical figures.  When I think of the name Hannah, I think as it as a name you give a baby when you've had trouble having a child.  In the best known story of Hannah,  She is distraught having been mocked about not bearing children. She goes to the Temple and prays so hard  from the heart,  her lips move without any sound causing the Priest ( not like todays' priests but the kind that managed the tabernacle and sacrifices before the destruction of The Temple) sending her away thinking she was drunk.  Hannah than explained that she wasn't drunk but heart broken.  The Priest gave her a blessing that resulted in her womb being able to provide Samuel.  She was then so grateful that she brought Samuel to serve the Temple.

  • My husband and I went through infertility for nearly two years before our son, Samuel, was born. That's why we're thinking Hannah for our baby girl. We love the biblical meaning for both our kids and the story of Hannah.
  • I am Sarah and my older brothers name is Isaac. Sarah was Isaac's mother in the Bible. This has never been odd or weird for us at any point. Hannah is a lovely name, I say go for it :)
