So many, how is it possible?

I was just saying that to my husband. I can't believe how many women are being induced for that reason. I wonder if that is the normal amount. I don't personally know anyone who has had that happen.

I was placed on medication to even mine out, they didn't just induce me. I find it odd all these mommas are being induced for high blood pressure so early. Mine was 157/120 on medication before being induced at 39/5... each dr is different though.

I was put on medication when it reached 185/85 at 16 weeks am now its around 124/76 but they haven't said anything about inducing me. I see my doctor the day before I'm due to see if she allows me to go over my due date just for the fact I'm on medication

Yeah, they have been saying this to me as well but my BP has been stable for over a month. So I see no reason to induce! She seems convinced it will spike back up again as I guess right before labor most women's BP does go up. So if you already have high BP they probably induce to avoid the supposed spike.

I know several woman personally who were induced or had emergency c sections (high BP + induction that ended up in fetal distress) due to high bp. I kind of assumed that was one of the more common medical reasons for induction but I have no evidence to back that, it's just me speculating.

High blood pressure can get out of control quickly! It can also cause the placenta to stop working or not work as well.

This is what happened to me last time which is why I was induced with my second.  I was high with my first but when I went into labor I spiked and it became dangerous and turned into pre-e.  I was put on a magnesium drip and it was awful, I was so thankful to avoid it this time around.

We're still ahead of our due dates, so it seems like a lot of women are being induced for high BP because that's really one of the ONLY reasons they induce this early.  Even with GD they usually wait until your actual due date to induce (not always but usually).  As we get more into the month of September, we'll see a lot more variance in different types of labors.

I was intially very angry about my induction for my sudden onset high bp, it was almost like I was tricked into it because they wouldn't even finish my NST and let me calm down to get true readings. Now, I'm sorta glad we got him out, I probably wasn't going into labor for another week and baby was 10 pounds and ended up having shoulder dystocia, which thankfully was resolved easily but if he'd gotten much bigger who knows if it would have went well.

I was induced due to high blood pressure. I've had it since 28 weeks and it was progressively worsening. After trying to induce so I can have a regular delivery I was given magnesium sulfate which was an anti seizure medication. None of the other induction methods were working and I was so sick they said they didn't know how much my body could handle. It was at a point where it wasn't healthy for me anymore. Worst part for me was due to the magnesium I couldn't see my little girl for a day and a half. High BP is nothing to joke around with.

I'm being induced right now for high BP that's really not that high. Last reading was 110/74 because it's come down. I'm feeling pressured into this, but am stuck. OB gave the scary pre e laundry list and scared DH. I'm terrified.

For those who didn't share and got induced, what were your actual readings? Mine has hovered around 120/70-138/88 for the past few weeks. I've also had putting edema in my feet the last week and gained 4 lbs of water weight in a week. But doc said that unless I have consistent BP readings at home over 140/90 along with severe headaches and vision changes, it's normal late preg stuff (I'm 40 weeks Wednesday). Just curious what other doctors are considering high BP and when they induce for it.

@jmhartley when mine hit 145/95 (normally 120/70 or lower) accompanied by a headache that last a few days I was induced

Mine was 140/96 at 34+5 (normaln110s/60-70) and we did lab work and 150/100 4 days later and I was put on bed rest because it was accompanied by a headache. The following day I was put in the hospital for borderline 24 hour urine results and the headache wouldn't go away. Was on hospital bedrest for 2.5 days before the headache became so bad we decided to induce even though my pressures at that point were in normal range and I was 35+5 delivered at 35+6.

I was 122/82 during my nst but showing constant contractions. Being a repeat cs my OB sent me to hospital for further monitoring & bp started climbing while there. Kept me overnight & did all pre e labs. Since bp was borderline & labs were fine I was sent home.

I had a bad headache all night that wouldn't go away with Tylenol. Got checked locally the next day to be safe & was 168/110 Ob had me come straight to her & I was still 152/92 so she said my body was starting to tell her things were changing & we did cs next day at 38 weeks.

I had an appointment yesterday and the doctor let me know that I will probably be induced on Friday or sometime next week. My blood pressure has been climbing over the last month and yesterday it was 144/94. My fluid has also been somewhat low (around an 8) so with both those factors, the doctor feels like it's just a safer option to induce. I am 37 weeks today and the baby was 5lbs 10oz two weeks ago so I'm confident he's a good size.

All of this is horrible timing, however. This weekend is a very busy one for our family and my parents are actually going to Vegas from the 6-8th for their anniversary. If I am induced early next week it's possible they wont be here. ALSO, my husband teaches 1st grade and his first day of school is Tuesday! He is obviously thrilled about the baby but would much prefer he not miss the first day of school. I am really hoping that we can plan the induction for Wednesday or Thursday of next week. The doctor didn't seem like she'd give me any kind of say in the matter so I 'm a little stressed about timing, to say the least.

The bright side is that my baby boy is coming so soon! Can't wait to meet him! <3

I think inducing because of high blood pressure seems so frequent because it's one of the most common complications that arise during pregnancy.

At my NST I was told that if I had two subsequent readings of anything over 150/90, I would be staying. My first two readings were around 160/90, basically an automatic admission and induction.

I'm being induced next week at 37 weeks for high BP. I'm wondering if the summer heat could have played a factor in it?

I actually saw my doctor yesterday afternoon. After having moderate to low BP all through my pregnancy, it shot up to 148/92 (down from the first reading when I got in the office an hour earlier). They're testing me for preclampsia but if my BP doesn't go down by my next appointment, they want to induce me right away (at 37 weeks).

That being said, I've suddenly had terrible foot swelling, pretty eyes sparkles (from simply walking around), and a urine output that decreased so much that I actually asked my doctor when I first got in if she would run my urine for a UTI. It wasn't until I was out the door that she rechecked my charts and saw that my BP had spiked.
    *Siggy Warning*

I'm being induced this weekend for high BP. I'll be exactly 37 weeks on Saturday. I had moderate to low BP throughout my pregnancy and it gradually started to creep up. I had a few scary high readings (161/111 and 159/09) and a few trips to L&D for monitoring. My 24 hour urine results were 268, which made them concerned it could quickly turn into preeclampsia. But in general, my new baseline BP is above 140/90 every time.
