When did your SO get to feel the baby kick?

Just curious. I'll be 24 weeks tomorrow and I feel the little kicks all the time. A few times my husband has tried to feel them but nothing even though I still do when his hand is on my belly. I know everyone's different and body's all have their own thing but I was just curious when did your SO feel the baby kick for the first time? What was the reaction?

Re: When did your SO get to feel the baby kick?

  • DH has felt him move since around 22 weeks. I have a posterior placenta so felt him earlier. He moved at 23 weeks to the center of my belly from the right so his kicks aren't quite as strong as they were. DH was really excited and amazed. My mom still hasn't got to feel him move since he's most active right when I go to bed.

He could feel them right around 21 weeks I think (we're 23.5 weeks now).

I've heard that one way to get them to feel it is actually by spooning (you as the big spoon). It can be hard to get your hands in the right spot to try and feel kicks when they're still fairly light from the outside, so spooning so your entire belly is against their back gives ample area for them to fee it. Not the same as feeling it with your hands but a way for him to possibly feel them.

Again, haven't tried it but I've heard it works for some people.
  • Around 18-19 weeks lightly, now my LO kicks so hard you can see it from just watching my stomach! I'm 25 weeks and it's my first.
I've heard the spooning method works, I haven't tried it either though
  • I think he felt them between 18 and 19 weeks but I have 2 in there and both have posterior placentas, making it much easier. There have been more times than not that I've told him to quick hold my belly and he'll have missed their movements. It takes a lot of patience in the beginning to wait it out.
His first reaction was basically "that's it?" He thought the kicks would feel bigger and harder, ha. Since then, he can tell the kicks feel stronger.

  • 18 weeks 6 days - I remember the day because it was the same as our anatomy scan. I'm 24 + 4 now and they've only gotten easier to feel. Typically when he puts both of his hands on my stomach where I usually feel movement and then he talks, he'll feel something.
  • It took two weeks for him to feel it. I could put my hand against my belly and feel it, but getting the timing right was always the hardest thing. We aren't going to just lie in bed for hours waiting for the tadpole to start moving ya know? But around 23 weeks he definitely got it. He's become an expert now at feeling around the bump and figuring out baby's location. I got some fluff, so while gentle is good,  you do have to press a little bit to feel anything.

Now though, I can lie doe and sometimes he'll karate kick the heck out of my side and you'll see it. Those are a little scary. lol Reminds me a little too much of the Alien movies.
  • I'm able to feel her from the outside and my mother has felt her as well. My little stinker does not like her daddy though. She'll be kicking up a storm and will stop as soon as he puts his hand on my belly! Poor guy! I'm 23 weeks, I wanna say I was around 19-20 when I first felt her from the outside. I'm not sure though.
  • 23-24 weeks! He was so excited
  • I kept the little kicks to myself :). They were so sweet. I knew it would be hard for SO to feel them. Around 23/24 weeks the kicks and movements got much stronger. That's when I invited to him feel b/c it was possible to miss.
  • Mine starting feeling them around 19weeks... he is still creeped out by it every time :)
  • Mine prefers to only kick hard enough to be felt after DH is asleep, he wants to feel LO so I have tried to wake him up but DH sleeps to heavily! I still get flutters during the day so not strong enough for DH to feel. I'm 25 weeks today.
  • I was 19 weeks when my SO felt baby kick for the first time, it was only light then and it just happened to be perfect timing. I'm now 25 weeks and can see my stomach move when she kicks, even sometimes through my clothes she's so strong.
  • I was 24+5! I think maybe part of it was timing, but there were times when his hand was there and I felt a big kick and he said he felt nothing. The first time he felt it it wasn't such a big kick though.

  • I felt baby girl for the first time at 17 weeks, just little movements, and my husband felt her at 20 weeks. She likes to stop moving when he tries to feel her kicking though. He has a very calming presence and I think she can feel that from the inside. I am hoping that when she comes out he will have the same effect on her.
  • About 22 weeks. I felt kicks around 18 wks.

  • I started to feel movement at about 21/22 weeks. My husband felt it about 23.5 weeks.
  • I started feeling him around 19 weeks my husband felt at 21 weeks. We can see the little guy kicking now. I'm currently 23 weeks 2 days.
  • This is our first baby and he felt him move for the first time between week 21 and week 22. I noticed that week how much stronger his kicks were. It was incredible.
  • This is my 3rd (5'7 135 pre-pregnancy) and my husband has never felt kicks until like 28-30 weeks as I carry so low. I think a lot depends on your weight, where you carry, etc. don't worry, he will eventually feel it.
  • My DH first felt them about two weeks ago, and I was about 24 weeks at the time. I think it came down to luck! Just couldn't get the timing right for a week or so.
  • I'm 26w4d - my hubby has felt him move before but last night there NO question. I felt LO moving around so I grabbed my SO'd hand quickly. He felt a big movement .. Even pulled his hand away haha. He asked "are you okay!?" So funny.
  • My SO has only recently started to really really be able to feel baby. I have been trying since 20-22, but they were just too faint. But now at 24w3d, LO is getting so much stronger.

  • Only two days ago! & I'm 25w 4d now. But as another poster said, we aren't laying around with his hand on my belly just waiting. My man is kinda antsy & always working, so there hasn't been too many opportunities where I was sure he might feel it. I had him try once, but the kicks were super light & he wasn't sure he felt it or if it was my pulse. :) Then about mid 23rd week, he saw it! We were watching TV after dinner & the belly started to jump a little, so I was looking at it, he saw me & looked down too & said "Did it just move?" When I said yes, he said that he'd seen it. Two days ago was pretty similar, baby was kicking up a storm post dinner & I was pretty sure he'd feel these, so I grabbed his hand & he felt it! I think he liked it, but was a bit freaked at the same time. ;)
  • Baby boy just kicked my husband in the ear about an hour ago. He probably first felt him when I was around 21-22 weeks. I felt the first kick around 17 and then nothing, not even flutters, until around week 20.

  • My hubby finally felt 100% for certain about two weeks ago (so 23 weeks) but before he "wasn't sure" and it seemed the lil brat stopped moving the second a strange hand would be there haha. No problems kicking mommy half to pieces but when it came to anyone else he'd shy up. Stubborn butt. I found he has the best chance of feeling the kicks right when I'm trying to go to sleep (thanks kid) or if I'm laying on the couch on my side with a pillow under the stomach to kinda push. Then I can't say "C'mere" or anything like that I have to make hand gestures. It's like the kid is listening for any intent to feel him and stops haha. He has seen the kid when he's really going though, so at least finally he believes me when I say the kid's trying to break out!
  • In week 24....and I have an anterior placenta. Last week I was able to video my belly while I was on my back and he got to see her kicking from the outside!
  • I am at 25w3 and he hasn't felt it yet. I tried once around 23 weeks but he says he didn't feel anything. My LO is sitting freakishly low (I feel like, I am a FTM so I don't have anything to compare it to) and he literally had to put his hand on the upper part of my pelvic bone, almost to the netheryaya region. So needless to say he feels a bit like a creeper sitting there with his hand on my lady parts. It will come, perhaps in a few weeks when they get a little stronger, and perhaps in a less awkward spot.
  • 24 weeks he felt her but still hard to feel her from the outside every time.

That is the only way my husband could feel him because his kicks are usually down really low.

He still hasn't! He has seen the kicks on my stomach once but every time he puts his hand on my belly to feel, baby boy stops cooperating. Also he likes to hang out really low so I feel his kicks in a place it's hard to feel lol

ETA he FINALLY felt him move last night at 27 weeks exactly!

  • Around 21-22 weeks. The easiest I've found is just to have him drape his arm across my belly if we're spooning. He's felt several kicks on his arm this way. I tend to think he holds his hand too firmly when I tell him our baby is kicking in a specific place, which causes him to miss the kicks. I accidentally experienced the spooning kicks last week when I spooned up behind him lol I've been lucky that this baby has been exceptionally active and very pressure sensitive.
  • I am 23 weeks today and have felt my twins moving for about a month now. DH finally got to feel them 3 days ago around the same time I can see my belly jiggling from their movements.
  • Around 20 weeks! But it was just luck. She doesn't kick me very much that is super big. Her movements are slower & more fluid I feel like then her big sisters were!
  • I have an anterior placenta and didn't start feeling them until 20 weeks. I'm 23 weeks now and he felt them for the first time two days ago but you can see my belly moving like crazy. He started crying he was so amazed. Lol.
  • My DH was able to feel faint movement at 21 weeks. My little guy is already a stinker. He stops moving when anyone tries to feel his movement. He also moves away from the ultrasound wand so doctor can never get a clear shot or count of his heart rate. This is our second so it is easier to recognize.
  • I started feeling kicks at 19 weeks and my husband was able to feel them at 22 weeks. I'm now 25 weeks and they are so strong! I can see my stomach move sometimes. My mom also got to feel baby move. So exciting!
  • I was 19wks when my husband felt the baby kick for the 1st time.
