My pregnancy book reccomends nuts for protine. So I'm not worried. I eat trail mix to keep me sane during the day (I keep it in my car). And I eat peanut butter or Nutella at least 4 times a week for breakfast.
Nutella does use sustainable palm oil. Also, palm oil is in about half of the products in US grocery stores so you'd have to avoid a lot more than one product to make an appreciable impact on orangutan habitats by boycotting certain products.
That's awesome. Thank you. Looks like they made the change fairly recently (at least since I looked into it) so I didn't know. DH will be happy that he doesn't have to buy the fancy version anymore.
And, yes. Palm oil is really hard to avoid. Nutella is the only product I have any interest in that has so much Palm oil in it, so, while I try to avoid all products with it, that was a major one to avoid.
You're welcome! Another difficulty about avoiding palm oil is that sometimes it is just listed as vegetable oil in the ingredient list. :-S I'm glad that more companies are making an effort to use sustainable ingredients though.
I recently bought a pie from a place I've been wanting to try for awhile. It's called Ebony and Ivory...it's a buttermilk chess pie with a Nutella swirl baked in. Yum! The crust was so flaky and now I'm trying to decipher how they made it! Baker problems.
I clicked into this thinking it was going to be a joke post and then almost started crying with mention that hazelnuts/nuts/ferrero rochers were off limits. My sweet tooth is basically gone completely except for ferrero rochers. In fact I bought a 3pack on the way to a wedding last weekend, forgot them in the car and they melted beyond ediblenness. The next day I bought a 12pk at target since I was still craving them and then proceeded to accidentally eat all of them at once. Yum. Thanks PPs for bringing this thread down to earth!
