Waxing

I usually do a Brazilian wax but I haven't had one done since about a month and a half ago. I want to get another one done (I'm 39 weeks) but I was wondering if it's a bad idea to get waxed before labor considering all the healing I'll be doing down there. It doesn't matter if I do or not. I'm sure my OB doesn't care at all but it's just something I keep up with regularly and just wondering if I should skip out on it for a few weeks.

Re: Waxing

  • I've always been told to make sure things are tidy down there before D-Day because they may shave you, particularly if you need stitching. Since I've been waxing for over 20 years, I plan on getting a good wax before DD2 is born (worked for DD1 delivery) although not a Brazilian wax since my hooha is very sensitive and I don't think could tolerate the pain or want to risk any potential abrasions.

  • My 1st child I let it all go and I had been waxing for a long time prior. I was just to stinking sensitive down there. The down fall was after baby comes and your constantly bleeding I just felt really gross all the time. This time around I'm sucking it up and have been doing it. I think having nothing going on down there is going to be a lot easier to deal
    With cleanliness wise.
  • For my first one I had it done and it was so much easier for cleaning purpose after delivery and during the healing part (I had a vag delivery). So for this baby I am doing the same and I just got it done and will be going again before the due date (my due date is Sep. 28).

Oh I had brazilian and butt also, sorry for the TMI
  • I was told by every doctor I've been to not go wax. They asked why I still shave but was told not to wax.
  • I have mine done religiously too and plan to get one at 38 weeks. This way the skin has healed properly by the time I deliver. I was more worried about having to wait weeks after delivery to do one. I'm lucky that my hair doesn't grow fast. I only I need one every 6-8 weeks.
  • I waxed my whole pregnancy but skipped my last appointment (Aug 28) because it was so close to my due date (Sept 2nd) and I feared if she came early and my pores were still open it would turn into a mess down there. The growth is so minimal and thin that I'm not sweating not being freshly waxed. I'm going to resume my routine after my 6 week check up.
  • Usually I'm a waxer but haven't lately because too far into pregnancy and with sensitivity issues and also concern if got an ingrown hair and infection. I definitely wouldn't do it this close to delivery in case you had a complication and then dealing with that on top of all the postpartum care would be a nightmare in my opinion. DH trimmed me - that is love! - and I'm satisfied.
  • I am a waxer and I would NEVER wax anyone in the third trimester especially 38/40 weeks. Things are swollen down there and waxing can be very painful this late in pregnancy. Not to mention is baby comes day after wax you will have a bacterial nightmare down there.
  • I'm 39 weeks and just got a Brazilian done. Was not only no problem, the practitioner told me I was the 5th very pregnant woman she waxed that week.

Doc said it was no problem - just be aware that some women will be more sensitive down there while pregnant due to hormonal changes and this stage of my pregnancy, I had more discharge than usual, but my waxing lady was a pro and dealt with it just fine.

For me, I'm glad I did it, it was no problem, I feel cleaner and relieved about one less thing to worry about - and hope my baby comes soon! But in any doubt, best to ask your doctor.
  • My doctor told me it was totally fine! I've been waxing through my entire pregnancy and plan to have one more before my baby comes. My doc actually told me that occasionally waxing can induce labor which is fine with me :)
