the hardest thing I've ever done

And undoubtedly the longest it's ever taken to shave my mommy parts tonight. I have no idea how I'm going to manage up until the baby is born.
Ugh to these wonderful pregnancy perks :((

  • I gave up. DH helped a few times but it just isn't worth it anymore. I am lucky I get my legs done let alone the lady bits.
    Missed Miscarriage 3/27 D&C 3/29/2012
  • I shave the night before every appointment so up until tonight it's been every 2 weeks and my god do I miss every 2 weeks!
I'm sure it's a lot nicer on hubby when we're sleeping or he's looking at me naked but I'd definitely take having hair everywhere over trying to move around this gigantic belly.

I forgot to shave before my last appointment and it just so happened to be my GBS test and I know my doctors seen worse but it was so awkward

Hahaha thats why I always make sure to just in case, I would be so emabrassed if i didnt. I always feel like no matter what I do they've seen worse but I still want to make their job ad easy as I can.

I felt so awkward I kept telling my doctor sorry haha
  • I told my husband after I shaved my legs for my first baby shower that I wouldn't do it again until the last one, and after the last one I wasn't doing it again for six months, and I don't care.

It's been a very liberating month.

I cut my toenails a couple days ago, though, and I'm *really* hoping not to have to do it again before baby comes...I don't know if I could do it.
  • I was in the hospital for over 5 weeks before I delivered... And I hadn't really kept up with it before hand... It was scary when I finally got to trim up!

Btw I love that you called them "mommy parts" lol
  • I'm an ER nurse, so I assist with pelvic exams when women aren't expecting to get them-most are far from pretty down there! They've definitely seen way worse, don't stress! I have clippers from when I used to cut DH's hair, I've been using them since I stopped being able to see what I'm doing. It keeps it tidy, but it'll be so nice when I can do it properly again :)
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I can't do it myself but I always get waxed every 4-6 weeks. And get pedicure 1 a month. It's an expense my husband has to deal with :D
  • I've even given up on my eyebrows, because to get them waxed I have to lie on my back at the salon and it was making me ill. Maybe I should get out the tweezers, haha!
  • Nair! Don't know what I'd do without it lol ;) And believe me, it's worth the smell of it just to feel like a lady again lol

My husband had to clip my toenails the last two times. And he may need to do it again since these prenatal vitamins make my nails grow quickly.

Nair! Don't know what I'd do without it lol ;) And believe me, it's worth the smell of it just to feel like a lady again lol

I actually thought about using nair. Is it safe during pregnancy? I've tried it on my legs and it didn't remove much hair so I gave up but if i can now I'll take that over shaving. Any tips?
  • @mriandabusto - Have you tried an epilator?  They're great for legs, underarms, and bikini lines.  I wouldn't try it directly over the lady parts, though.  Youch!  Anyway, it's been one of my favorite pregnancy purchases. No hair for weeks on end!  :)
  • I'm going to try tackling this chore this weekend (I have an exam Monday, lol). I can't see what's going on down there, so either going to use a mirror or try talking DH into helping me, although he probably won't, because he says he's afraid of cutting me.
  • Meh leave it be. The doctor and nurses won't care.

  • I am glad we are all in this together haha. I have been trying to keep up with my bikini line the most, and then the other parts I use the new Schick womens razor that has the trimmer on the end of the handle of the razor. It works great! I just have to guess what I am doing. My legs are something I do like every 2 weeks. I am sure all of the nurses, doctors and midwives are used to seeing some forests down there haha
  • I've been shaving for every appointment now and been a little disappointed that I haven't been looked at down there after all my efforts! I told my boyfriend that I'm not bothering for my next appointment (38 weeks) and he just said "you know that will be the one where they will check you, right? Just because you didn't shave." I don't even care now.. I'm tired of trying to keep up with it. Bending feels like I'm crushing baby and all my other insides !
  • I keep up with my legs no problem but I cut myself over a month ago trying to accomplish my lady parts with a mirror and have since given up. It is what it is.
  • My DH was sweet and helped me....LOL it wasn't perfect but I keep telling myself "Whatever I have going on down there, the Dr has seen WAY worse!!!" It makes me feel a little better about the botched shave job. Ha!
  • I've used my SO's beard trimmer as well to keep the mommy parts neat. I was going to do my legs last night, but I discovered I was sore/swollen enough after work that just trying to wash my legs/feet in the shower was a chore.... Hopefully I'll get ambitious enough this weekend!

Never even heard of it, I'll look it up
    Thank you
  • My legs aren't an issue at all, they're not hard but I don't shave them often so of course I don't want to the longer they get.
I'm going to buy the razor with the trimmer on it before my next appointment, I didn't even think of that.
No more shaving but I'll keep it trimmed:)
  • Lady parts, I can do, but legs are pretty much impossible at this stage, because I'm carrying high and can't bend or twist at the waist sufficiently anymore.
  • Nair has always been my go to, even while pregnant!!

I find epilators super painful, even on my legs. Read reviews before purchasing!
  • Yeah I have an epilator. It HURTS. I would never put that near bikini line or crotch. An epilator is literally ripping your hairs out (like several dozen electric tweezers). It does mean less hair growth and takes longer for hair to grow back though! Worth it to use on my legs in the summer. I think the only thing I can compare it to is the sensation of getting a tattoo?

Can you use Nair around lady parts????
  • @mriandabusto - @kanga915 and @WDDCH brought up good points!  If you've never heard of an epilator (and I hadn't either until an Australian friend introduced me to the idea), it's basically an electric tweezing machine.  Many people find using one painful because you are literally pulling the hair out by the roots.  Everyone has a different pain threshold.  I don't find mine painful at all anymore.  The first time I used it, it was, but I got used to it very quickly.  Definitely read reviews and consider your own sensitivity.  Some people are also more prone to ingrown hairs, which can be a problem with an epilator.  Exfoliation is a good way to prevent those from happening.

What helped me, too, was thinking of the pain management involved in epilating as training for labor.  ;)  "If I can handle this, I'll be better equipped to deal with that."  I know that it's going to be an entirely different sort of pain, but it definitely gave me the guts to keep at it.

I think they have ones made for your bikini line but I don't think they're meant to go any farther than that
  • I've just had my hubby do it for me. Plus, he can shave it how he likes it lol scary for me at first but now completely used to it
  • I would epilate if I had one...I have a high tolerance for tweezing discomfort.

Nair has always been pretty ineffective on me.

I'm terrified to let hubby shave me, he cuts his face quite a but when he shaves himself!
  • @SunSilverfox I Used To wax myself full body so I dont see any issues with getting an epilator. After readings the reviews and seeing the cost I actually feel like I need one of those in my life lol
